Happy Sunday!!
It’s the XLBS Show! Happy Sunday CoG brothers and sisters!!!
@lloyd talking about his Carthaginians for Clash of Spears has me excited. It’s always good to hear about Clash of Spears! When he tells us about the benefit of inks I’m all ears seeing as how I just today, (well Saturday), dished out $180 for 22 INKS because Gerry had spoke of them when painting the OTT Crisis Protocol miniatures. I’m eager to get into using them on more then just MCP.
On a side note, I am enjoying reading through a copy of “WRG: De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA) Ancients Wargame Rules 2.0” that I bought online after @warzan unboxed them in an army trade box and @avernos stated that they are the basis for many other rules sets that have came about since. I had never heard of them and so felt that I needed them to help me complete my ascension to proper table top commander status.
Reading DBA?. Gave you got a headache yet?
@templar007 I will be playing a Clash game at 13:00 BST which I believe is 8:00 EST, it will be played through Zoom with one of the writers moving the men around. If you are up and about you’re welcome to come watch.
where is the meeting?
it will be on Zoom, not sure how it’s going to be showing off yet
I’ll tune in if you have a link! ??
@avernos – We run online games for the community all the time. I certainly missed this one, but I would love to tune in to someone else’s game as well (i.e., hang out while someone ELSE does all the work!) 😀 😀 😀 If there’s ever a schedule or an announcement for this, please let me know, I’d tune in for sure.
@templar007 @oriskany @tacticalgenius @torros, we had some technical issues so we started about an hour later than expected and Alvaro wasn’t streaming it, I think a few friends watched from the gallery. But I did record it and it’s going up on youtube at the moment. If there are others in the future I will definitely give people a heads up now we seem to have ironed out some wrinkles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWVt5mYO5uQ
Sounds great definitely let me know about anything in the future I would be keen on seeing that
Epic, @avernos . Yeah, we know all about the technical hurdles for this kind of thing. 🙁 So no pressure. But if your crew runs anything in the future let us know. 😀
Clash ON!
@brennon Very jealous you getting those RP minis
This guy does some nice videos on simple techniques to get stuff on the table and they look great as well. This one is stormtroopers
https://youtu.be/d2mJLTwKm1M
Cheers for the link – will have a good look. And yes, I am very lucky!
And your address is….?
@brennon Theres also these chaps who I dont think are on that list
https://www.centimetrewarriors.com/shop
Awesome, thank you
I too now hate @brennon for getting those awesome Ral Partha boxes!!
@lloyd. How can you be so cheerful building those plastics . I was crying the tears of the damned after doing 2 of them and that was with me leaving off all the stupid fiddly bits
I’ve done more!!! 🙂
Great game Warmaster. Happy days painting it in the GW store with Steve and Gerry and them getting annoyed when some smelly oik came in wanting to know about 40k
Anyway heres an an almost complete list of 10mm fantasy manufacturers

If you want to know more there are couple of really good 10mm Facebook pages. This one in particular is nice as it deals with 10mm fantasy

May 10, 1940 marked the beginning of what was undoubtedly the most successful German operation of World War II. Viewed in this light, it can in some ways be regarded as the war’s darkest day.
Eighty years ago TODAY, an invasion began that would see no less than four nations crushed beneath the tyranny of the Third Reich. A fifth allied army would be routed and virtually destroyed, in some ways never to fully recover. This offensive would conquer most of Western Europe with stunning speed, establish the Wehrmacht’s aura of battlefield invincibility, and put Britain on the strategic back foot until almost the end of the war. Lessons learned in Poland and Norway would be applied in a new, improved version of “Blitzkrieg,” delivering for the Germans a victory in just six weeks what they couldn’t do in four bloody years of World War I.
If one considers the damage this offensive would also do to the global empires of Britain and France, we are still dealing with the fallout of this attack to this very day.
Victory in World War II never seemed more impossible as it did eighty years ago today . . . May 10, 1940.
“Fall Gelb” the Germans called it. “Case Yellow.” The Blitzkrieg in the West.

HAPPY SUNDAY!
And yet … when you look at the details of some of those initial ‘crushing’ victories things aren’t so black & white.
Yes … the Germans ‘won’ in about 5 days (technically 8 because Zeeland would hold on ’till the 18th).
The Queen + her government escaped, which was sort of the main objective when taking The Hague.
The lost personell and material were to have a significant effect on the battle of Crete.

Thanks for stopping by the stream, @limburger! 😀
it was fun.
If only timezones were not such a mismatch, but that’s life.
Happy Sunday from Down Under.
Somewhere in amidst my hobby cave, I’ve got the Forgotten Realms Heroes (badly in need of re-basing). Looking forward to seeing how you paint yours Ben, so I can see if my early painting skills still do it in this more modern age. I’ll see if I can dig them out and post some photos…..
I’ve already done the base coats for Drizzt and layered on a wash. Time to tackle the highlights now
Happy Sunday!
Lloyd’s demi-T-shirt does solve the problem of loose, flappy, un-tucked clothing catching on and knocking over items on the tabletop as you reach across… providing there aren’t any loose, flappy un-tucked bellies to do the same.
Maybe Ben’s come across a new weapon for dungeon delving?
A sword that can stab around corners?
Good point @coxjul “un-tucked clothing catching on and knocking over items”
Lol, yeah. Thunderfoot, the ultimate authoritative source. It’s ducks, and the pilots are idiots.
I will now proceed to slam my head onto the table, repeatedly. Evil GM is evil, lol.
The media are extra dumb thogh.
An UFO is merely something the observer could not classify …
Combine that with someone who has been trained to recognise enemy vehicles instead of birds and they might make a mistake or two, which might have added to the reasons Pentagon wasn’t willing to release this kind of ‘evidence’.
Human vision is deceptively easy to trick.
I think if it had been aliens from another world they would have never released the film’s in the first place
Mister Tfoot also conveniently forgets that they captured these things not only with FLIR, but also on radar. He conveniently also doesn’t mention that these things rose from sea level to several thousand feet with incredible speed. These contacts also happened several years apart, with several different flight crews. But hey, it was totally birds.
His science made perfect sense, but then the UFO/conspiracy fans don’t want to hear that.
Second part in his UFO series, which kind of highlights how easy it is to present UFO evidence as evidence of alien activity :
https://youtu.be/3viYcYPRdu4
It also shows a UFO using an advanced cloaking device …
As I said, he does not mention the radar contacts, and dismisses the pilots as idiots or hoaxers. The rise from 0 to 28.000 feet is brushed over by him. Tfoot is very disingenuous and does the same thing he accuses those UFO guys of. There’s a reason he has only a 5% turnout from his subscriber base.
Where was my warning! Oh god! My eyes! MY EYES!
Happy Sunday everyone…
Another fine show gentlemen, and today is my birthday so taking it easy watching the show whilst enjoying a coffee in bed.
To entice more people to join Backstage, perhaps you should do more comps / giveaways that only COGS can win by watching and signing up for backstage.
Perhaps alternate between the Weekender and XLBS for giveaway comps..
Hope you are all doing well and staying safe, keep up the great work
Happy Birthday my good man. Enjoy your day
Happy “Another Rotation Around the Sun” Day!
Happy Sunday
Happy Sunday!
Gerry’s DM – well played, sir. Well played. 😀
She thanks you for your plaudits
Well, she deserves them for a cracking code that couldn’t be cracked. 🙂
I now got to go and bleach my eyes. we now know how to break Gerry.
There were games before Warmaster that used a roll to activate system. Fire and Fury springs to mind
I thought Lloyd would be hairier!
I think he must shave it!
Could be wax on,wax off type of situation
I think it might be Veet, I bet he likes the way it burns his nipples…
I’m more into clamps @noyjatat
Another great show.
Wow, Warmaster, what a blast from the past!
Lloyd, might save you some time – MMB click on a link. Boom! Open in new tab (should be your default behavior).
MMB – I really should.
Happy Sunday. I have some fond memories of Warmaster, I remember drooling over my White Dwarf at all the lovely pics. Small scale games are great fun and while it’s a bit daunting when they first arrive they are so easy to paint once you get the hang of it. Kalistra here in the UK do a great 10mm fantasy range for anyone wanting to give 10mm a try ?
https://www.kallistra.co.uk/index.php?page=19
Will add that the Kallista range are the exact same figures as the old Pendraken fantasy range which isnt the Warband range .Pendraken leased the range out ( or something like that) and Kallistra re moulded them on strips and re sold them
I didn’t know that, thanks ??
THX – The Audience is listening and flying popcorn and dentals…. jepp, it’s Sunday…. XD
Oh and the sticky note @avernos made 24h hours prior to the XLBS recording did survive… OSL.. a nightmare. Sorry @brennon for having you hearing that… Ben did a Ben and Gerry did take notes XD
Really great show, despite some of the fashion choices on display 🙂
I have quite a few of the Copplestone “Not Lord of the Rings” minis and they practically paints themselves, they are that well sculpted and cast. They really are loverly and I really must get back to painting them!
At least there is little rush to get my Romans painted for Clash, though by the time we play, I’ll definitely have a Gallic force of some description painted as well. Must say I love the skin tone Lloyd has achieved. With a nice shield transfer they will look amazing on the table – despite the sculpting on the chainmail.
I won’t lie. I brought the Fellowship…they are on the way!
Yeah Lloyd, my belly pokes out the bottom of my t-shirts too. I don’t have any masks though.
🙂
Don’t look like a nun this week
Thank you – I do my best.
Great episode @avernos, @brennon & @lloyd. Loved all the hobby time stuff and the fashion tips!
But where was the parental warning for the last bit, that’s going to take some shifting from my mind ??
Sources as authoritative as the President of the US suggest injecting bleach. Perhaps worth a try? 🙂
@brucelea watch out for my full range coming soon!
Wait till you see the shorts.
How low can you go boys lol
Subdermal
The UFO is cold, tho. If you look at the instrumentation, it’s set to BHOT (black hot) – heat will be shown as black. And that flying thing is showing up bright white. So, stone cold. But birds might be cold(ish), what do I know.
Birds are slightly warmer than humans, I think 40C is about average.
@harpoon71 @robert – there’s a bit in the video about the bird temperature (basically it’s flying high so it’s surface temp is cold) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfhAC2YiYHs
Was it just me or did the show seem to be packed full of content?
I really want to see you guys start to compare and contrast games in the same genre. Show us the pros and cons of all the current Ancients, Dark Ages and Fantasy rulesets.
‘Was it just me or did the show seem to be packed full of content?’
No comment
But that was a comment!
Hay Hay folks Happy birthday warzan.
It’s superduck and Nick pope is a ahole government mouthpiece.
Yay you guy’s should do a white scars army?
Them shield transfers look fabulous.
happy sunday
almost went for 10mm from Copplestone Castings but I went for the 15mm I’m currently working on.
they are very beautiful and detailed figures but had a lot of work to clean up.
even now I still find things that I have overlooked.
but it is great fun to paint them.
still 4 heroes on mounts and 1 small giant (he is only + – 5cm) to go and base.
and happy birthday warren.
good day to me & cuckoo from the parrot ??
@brennon you could just play KoW in 10mm – just use cm instead of inches…
Also take a look at kallistra (the guys who did the hexxon terrain) each blister is a reg for warmaster…
I will have to have a look at that too for a simple system
Clannad did the music for the robin hood series so great for medieval battles.
Clannad and the Robin Hood series they did the music for is awesome aye
OooooOOOOooooh
the hooded man
Lol Lloyd going HULK at the end.
HULK still looks better at 66!!! lol
Ha Lol true.
Thanks for the awesome show guys!
God… really feel like hunting warmaster stuff now, last week you guys tickled my nostaligia of DBA/DBM 🙂 and now warmaster that well sadly I was never able to paint or play because my huge orc army was odered from a shaddy shop in the US, who took all the cash but delivered like… 30% of the order still real upset about taht whole thing
That’s not nice, you think they would honour there part of the transaction. Have they not offered you a refund for none received items.
can’t remember the name of the long gone shop. but a friend of mine did the order back then, and it’s one of those friend who you have issues getting him doing a thing so well 😛 was something like new wave or something, can’t remember
Ha ha, great show. Really nice mix of comedy and hobby!
A golden button! Thanks OTT! 🙂
you are incredibly welcome @sundancer and myself loved it when we spotted it on the hobby hangout. Terrific work
@avernos Somehow the “Get them while they’re young” idea for smoking doesn’t work with stale miniatures. Prehaps we should just work with fresh minis and paint, despite the fact there are some members working with pots well into the 90s (I see you @sundancer )
Paint is paint! 😉
Thank you for the golden button. Happy Sunday everyone.
@lloyd A Hulkamaniac you are not. Eesh! I don’t even think bronzer can touch that pale a tone. Can OTT afford the amount of Reikland Fleshshade that it might take to give that man some color?
I’m going to mix tea bags and baby oil.
Brilliant show this week. You are ticking all of my boxes you naughty chaps. 28mm Ancients and Warmaster, with some Dragonlance references on the side – don’t mind if I do.
Happy Sunday! I really enjoyed the show again, especially Lloyd’s retro fashion choices. Also nice to know that the double entendres still fly about the place without Warren there to launch them.
Warmaster IS a great game. Guess I’m part of that niche community that never stopped playing it. In fact, right now, my group is using 1st edition Mighty Empires campaign rules and scanned terrain tiles to run a Warmaster campaign on Roll20. The driving force behind the whole thing is a recently joined member and has promised me that he will post the first battle played (Empire vs Empire) to YouTube so folks can see how it works.
Years before the atrocious movie, GW released a boxed set called Battle of Five Armies which was Warmaster re-skinned and kitted out with a ton of 10mm plastic goodness including the ruins of Dale and the initial release of their 4 part hill (though only 2 parts came in the box set). They also supported it with quite a nice selection of pewter pieces as well. I have painted most of the pieces I own, which truth be told is most of what they released, and the plastic dwarfs are the core of my Warmaster dwarf force. I made banners to help me differentiate the different units of goblins as, unlike Warmaster, Bo5A didn’t have command strips for the front stand. Hmmmm, sounds like another Project Blog brewing in my mind…
BoFA us one of those few things I regret not buying when it was released
Another fine show, lads, even shorthanded, and hobbled by Lloyd’s fashion sense. I would have liked to see @avernos‘ Zoom presentation of his Clash of Spears (with one of the Erize brothers) but a 6am start for me after going to bed at 3am…hoping for a great Let’s Play in the future?! Your lads look pretty great…looking forward to putting my Victrix together for Clash.
just finished uploading the game 10 minutes ago, knock yourself out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCdotXSxcmM&feature=youtu.be
Wow, that’s service. Thanks! Are you still liking the game? Hoping it will be a good way to teach the grandsons history and historical wargaming.
Definitely. I’m still hoping to run a bunch of games when things calm down in the future
@dignity, Happy birthday for last week mate, hope you had a good day!
@warzan, Happy Birthday mate, hope that Andrea & the kids spoilt you rotten!
Great Show as always fellas,….. but Lloyd….. please don”t do your impersonation of “The Hulk/ Hulk Hogan” Ever again,….I had to use the last of my brain bleach & 4 pints to get past that image!!
@brennon, I believe that those RP mini’s were painted with tamiya paints ( I think a mix of acrylic & enamels..) and that I may have done everything wrong when I painted them 20+ years ago.
Warmaster and Warmaster Ancients are fantastic games. Others have already pointed out a lot of great alternate figures. I will add that there are quite a few, very nice, 3d printable armies out there as well.
Before the virus hit, a buddy of mine was planning a big multi-player campaign in honor of a fallen friend who was working toward running one himself and had planned to supply armies for anyone that didn’t have one and wanted to play. I had scoured the intrawebs to add to my skelli army and now have tons more to paint.
On a final note, I’m sure a good many of you know, the Black Powder line of games by Rick Priestly and Jervis Johnson is an evolution of the Warmaster Ancients rules. Rick has pointed out in many interviews that Black Powder is basically where they were heading with the Warmaster rules if Warhammer Historical division of GW had not folded.
also hunting for some realm of men I found that:
https://warmonger-miniatures.com/store/10mm-landsknechte/armbrustschutzen-crossbowmen.html
kinda very fitting for their whole 10mm landknechte army 😀
Woohoo – late to the party – but heyho – I’m here now!
So – Lloyd “I’ve solved the problem with Red/White” (paraphrased here). My first thought – I bet he uses contrast paint – and only browns. I need to continue watching to see if I’m right…….
1/2 Right 🙂 @berger15
finally getting a chance to watch the XLBS. What the actual f**k am I watching??? holy crap, LMAO. Well done gentlemen. Who knew Ben @brennon could talk so much. @lloyd I’m speechless
@brennon I used the figures from the LOTR Risk sets to make the core set of my 10mm LOTR army. you get elves and goblins with the trolls and eagles . I have picked a couple sets up for less than a £5 in charity shops and flea bay
Well crap I have one of those risk games too! Will have to compare with my Battle of Five Armies figs.
Ok that was a great show! Dig out my Warmaster Rulebook and my Battle of 5 Armies book and started looking them over! Dang you fellow cultists, you are distracting me from my Rohan Army build project!
Now I just need to figure out what scale the Battle of Five Armies game by GW was. It was also written by Priestly but does not show the scale of the minis! Any idea @avernos
OK I’m a dork! Went back and found the scale on the first page! It says “about 10mm”. Close enough for me! Now to start looking at Copplestone Castings!
glad you found it as the site didn’t ping me that I’d been mentioned
Always love seeing Warmaster. I’ve been revisiting a bunch of my unpainted Warmaster over the last few weeks and for anyone with a 3D printer, if you scale any terrain .stls you have down to 40% they come out as brilliant Warmaster terrain.
Can’t unsee Lloyd’s shirt! lol
