yes, sunday XLBS now
It’s the XLBS Show…….Happy Sunday fellow CoGs!
@free definitely get into some RPGs. I’ve been playing RPGs since the late 70’s. Some of the best gaming times of my life. Enjoy your adventures.
extra nerd points for @brennon for the quote “like the Bugblatter Beast of Traal” during @warzan glow crystals segment.
@artemis5150 Great Aliens minis. I looked at buying these a few weeks back, but decided to what for more reviews. Well done!
@henrileite I like everything about your ‘Sleepy Hollow project’! That story was one of my childhood favorites. You have all the angles covered it looks like, Well DONE! Great collection of everything need for that story.
@thebucklandbrewer Love the colors you’ve chosen to bring your Sea themed minis to life. Well done, so really vibrant!
Happy Sunday all.
HAPPY SUNDAY!!
Happy Sunday all! I’m off for a big cup of coffee and the weekender. Good times. I’m excited to play one of the LCGs with others, I’ve been playing through all LOTR LCG again solo during lockdown…it’s great but not the same as with others.
Happy Sunday, Don’t feel afraid of meeting up with people, just don’t break the 6ft rule….oh wait we all elbow to elbow. So many people crammed into the hall. The great unwashed of conventions. Can see why it may not appeal to you getting back to the convention scene. Chin up we will slowly get back to what I would call the new normal with safety on everyone’s mind.
Happy almost a complete Sunday in the UK! (Someone nicked an hour).
Many years ago at the age of only 7, my brother introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons (Basic) as he wanted to be the DM and I ended up playing a group of adventurers that were supported by an NPC controlled by my brother to help keep me on track. It was fantastic and I learned about the meaning of words I’d never heard of before like Charisma, Constitution and Dexterity. Although my brother moved on to other interests, I continued as D&D took off in schools and I have remained immersed in the genre ever since, developing my imagination and model making and painting skills. I wish I had been able to have a career in this now booming industry, but 40+ years on, I’m so still happy that RPGs and the hobby still allow me to escape from the monotony of life. Keep gaming… Great show! Many thanks. ????
We’re back to having events here in Australia. I’ve been to 2 Lord of the Rings Tournaments in the last 4-5 Months and it’s not scary or weird it’s just back to normal but then again we did extremely well with Covid and didn’t have more than one or two very short lockdowns. We just had two cases in the state that got out of a hospital (all our cases are of foreign arrivals in 14 day hotel quarantine) and it’s making people go nuts.
The Spring Cleaning also came at a perfect time for me. Although I did just buy at least as much as I already had I think it still counts. Taking a leaf from your book @warzan and trying to make a generic Halfling Army for everything from Saga to Warhammer Fantasy/KoW keeping it generic but having a main story for them so they don’t just become minis on a table.

Happy Sunday!
I’m pretty much with @warzan on the post-event feeling. In a number of ways this has been the best year ever for me. Am I looking forward to going back to 3 hours commuting a day, £7 sandwiches, being knackered in the evenings from that but then having commitments to grind through, then having a weekend of feeling guilty for not visiting family and grinding through the chores I didn’t have time to do during the week? Nooo-hoooo-hooooo ?
I have had more hobby time over the last year, I do miss having the odd game, but the benefits have outweighed the problems for me.
I do realise I am very lucky to have had this experience though. I have a wife at home, no kids to homeschool, and I can work from home. I do fully empathise with those who haven’t been so lucky.
The bit that will be challenging for me is kind of a FOMO thing. All the time events haven’t been happening, we haven’t been missing out on anything, so it’s all been fine. But if I choose a less packed lifestyle as a permanent change, I’ll have to deal with potentially missing out on things that are happening, which will probably drag me back into stuff. For example music festivals. I haven’t missed them at all because they haven’t been happening. I would massively miss them if they were happening and I wasn’t there!!
I agree with Warren about shows, part of me can’t wait to get back to them and another is not keen on fighting through crowds to look at stuff. I suspect mask-wearing will be a thing for some time to come. That and compulsory issuing of deodorant – but that has always been an issue at shows. In terms of games, I am looking forward to playing Frostgrave for the first time as well as Stargrave.
@dignity if you are worried about spoiling that the next Mythic Battles might be Egypt. Don’t worry they already mention it in the 1.5 rulebook with the divine stones rules.
@warzan, to help you look at upcoming Cons in a more positive way, remember that standards of hygiene are higher now than ever before. Public places have far easier access to hand sanitizer and with everyone most likely still having to wear face masks, transmission of any virus (flu, CV-19 or otherwise) will be far less than before the event. The locations will limit the numbers of attendees, so the age old issue of fighting your way through a sea of people won’t be there. And finally the tables and stalls will have to be more spaced out to allow for social distancing (to an extent anyway). I’m actually really looking forward to going as I might actually be able to get to see everything for once. Yes it’s scary but equally exciting! ?
A brilliant board game, guaranteed to get multiple plays in a session is Tsuro.
I was introduced to it one games night at the Brighton Dice Saloon and everyone was sad when we moved on to another. I’ve bought about four copies of the game to date, as every time I’ve taken it to play with friends or family, they’ve pleaded with me to leave it so they can play with their friends!
It’s a brilliant, simple game – a perfect mix of co-op and spiteful. My own personal copy, of course, has the tokens swapped out for actual, painted dragon minis. But everyone I’ve introduced to the game so far has loved it.
i remember we got our drive done at our old place and my eldest (at the time only) cried himself to sleep because we wouldn’t let him have the digger in his bedroom….
I have to say I’m in no rush to go to any conventions this year. I’ll wait until 2022…before mixing with the germ ridden masses…lol
I’m looking forward to sitting in the pub with some mates and playing a board game.
There are several war games I want to play this year that inclues
Flames of War
Team Yankee
SPQR
Baron’s War
Reality’s Edge
StarGrave
Mortal Gods
Gangs of Rome
Black Ops
Ronin
I didn’t find glow in the dark crystals on fleabay but I did find some pigment powder that glows

Coming from the other side of the pandemic. I’m a postman and for the last year we have been so busy that even though I have kept up with the purchase of little people I’ve either had no time or been to tied to keep up with my hobby. So I’m looking forward to some quiet time.
Also I’m looking forward to being able to go back in our local Games Workshop store for a chat and a browse.
Cheers for another great Sunday show guys. With what was said towards the end of the show about projects and trying to keep them to a single theme for tagging purposes. Should people do an individual Spring Clean Challenge Project for each different game system?
False widows can be handled if you’re careful. They generally won’t bite and if they do it’s no worse than a bee sting. Though some people have had allergic reactions to the bites.
I’ve removed two from the house in the past…as they’ll come indoors for the warmth. They tend to be more prone to biting around mating. The females bite is worse than the male.
Aaagh Warren is going all brockback peat bog.
Happy Sunday! Glad to see Free has had a camera upgrade.
Would be really cool for a “tale of the noob” on the painting front with sage advice from the resit of the OTT team. Even if it’s like a live stream of “lessons” via zoom?
On the conference side of things I think every industry is going to have to adapt to the new normal. If only there was a team that had experience of running global virtual campaign series out there some where @warzan.
Always going to have to be face to face hobby aspects but are there bits of “cons” that could be a blended virtual experience.
When you go and plan your Spring Clean Challenge, and then are inspired by the first Sunday show, and think about other models in the pile of shame!
I may need to empty my glass containers of rice and stick dice in them. On the subject of getting back into gaming. I spend so much time and effort sorting out a game with friends that we might do just once a year that lockdown hasn’t effected too much the amount of gaming I seem to actually do. The time has allowed me to complete some projects that are now in storage and I feel almost scared to get them out and play with them
Fab projects folk’s.
You should get a promter an you can just read it out like they do with the news @warzan
A great show again by the way.
Happy Sunday folks!
A really want to play sooooo many different games when able.
A Bilion suns
Gamma Wolves
Rangers of Shadow Deep
Godtear
Conquest
Kings of war
The skirmish versions of the two above
Warlords of Erewhon
Warhammer underworlds
Also too many boardgames to mention.
I almost forgot the Alien RPG which I got for Christmas.
Them Malifaux minis can be a real nightmare to put together but definitely worth it as they are some of the coolest models around.
Sunday, happy.
00:00 REMAIN INDOORS!
00:03 What the heck is “K Y Jelly”? Oo And do I really want to know?!
00:40 Dirty matrecces are gone… did they walk out by themselves?

13:40 Warren the wizz0rd

1:18:00 patch deployed
1:22:00 Clean your springs!
And this concludes another Sunday… now where is my coffee?
My first Saturday job was on a market in Lancashire. The fruit stall guy would always take round any good spiders he came across in the banana boxes.
Another great XLBS I am feeling much like you do @warzan possibly even more so. I feel at the moment it’s going to be a long time before I go to a tourney, con or even a club. The event has really made me re-evaluate my hobby and now gaming has gone from being the main thing to just a minor insignificance, looking back at my gaming pre covid I’ve realised that I got more enjoyment from the procastrination than the actual game
happy Sunday all.
I am desperate to play some Kings of War, its been like a year and from this year I wanna try Clash of Spears. We actually were about to do a clash session when the event occurred so it’d be nice to get around to it. Might force me to finish their bloody shields!
Yeah I didn’t half enough painted for it. Nearly had a foolproof plan to get it postponed
Happy Sunday! I’m looking forward to more Joan of Arc being played. The depth of it provides so much tactical gameplay and a lot of replayability.
I want to kill something, be it Orc Maurder or whatever. Being locked up for over a year there is no spring cleans to do. Many games painted for late summer……
Spring Cleaning … might need to finish my Mortal God’s Athenians. So want to do a Mars attacks army now.
I’m looking forward to running an Old School Essential in person RPG campaign. In addition I finished painting most of my Judge Dredd Miniature game and Dead Man’s hand. I can’t wait to play those with someone face to face.
Sounds like Warren has Covid Stockholm syndrome.
@dignity you’re being a bit shortsighted about that mouse. The mouse obviously had enough sense to move into your house where the hawks and other predators can’t get it. If you put it outside, you just undermined its survival strategy, you have got blood on your hands sunshine. How often have you done this?
I have to agree with Warren:
I’m looking forward to getting back with friends and picking up where we left off on games (roleplaying, Kill Team, Aeronautica Imperialis) maybe adding some new things in that we have been working on over lockdown… but the idea of going to a game night at the local with Johnny and Jill Public still seems kind of off putting.
Maybe once I get my second vaccine and things are looking up in the summer? But not actually that appealing at the moment.
17.05: World, shattered…. :-/. Noooooooo! 😉
I empathise with your trepidation Warren. I miss the atmosphere of Salute, but with a year of social distancing and mask wearing and being diabetic and with lots of infirm and high risk people amongst my family, I can’t imagine attending an event with that many people crammed together all in one place again so soon. Even the queue seems like madness, let alone being elbow to elbow with people looking through bargain bins of clearance stock or brushing past people in tight formation negotiating the various stalls. I don’t recall getting con-flu, but can well imagine it being a concern. I can imagine that I will wear a mask long after the convention and requirement to use it has passed if I attended a large gathering or go on public transport in future, just because the common sense of protecting yourself that way has been so ingrained over the last year. That all said… I would still go to any events if I got a chance to meet any of the CoG members or BoW / OTT team. I think my desire to see some of you awesome people in person again would outweigh my other concerns and with some basic precautions and a new normal outlook, I would still attend.
I watch every weekender / XLBS and lots of content, streams and discord type interactions, but there’s nothing quite like the feeling of seeing the tasty boys in person out in the wild. Discussing the ancient Hobby Lab video on the garden wire/brush bristle trees approach and the flock shedding propensity of said trees with Brother Lloyd. I doubt we’ll be trying to kiss, lick or otherwise molest poor Justin, as had been the sport during previous Salutes as an odd challenge set many moons ago, but it would be great to reminisce about boot camps gone by with Captain Alpha Strike himself once again.
I could embarrass myself again in front of my son, getting star-struck with Christy Beall and stammering and thanking her for her painting videos as though she were a Hollywood starlet. Being humble (and not as world famous as I seemed to react towards her) she kindly thanked me for the heaped praise and smiled at my enthusiasm and allowed my overreaction to settle in, dawn on me naturally and for me to realise that I had come at this meeting at way too high of an energy. I un-holstered my natural English reservedness, (not so much a quick draw, more like the slow laboured draw of a man that has no intention of drawing the trigger) and shaked the nice ladies hand and asked that she keep up the good work, then toodle-pip I wandered off, with my son sporting a fun WTF type expression as we moved away from the Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy stall ASAP.
Obviously I miss Warren too and would love to meet Free and I would never have met some of the old regular guests on the show like Templar Brian, Big Ben, Cad, Mel, and people like Ronny, Alessio and John Stallard without the conventions and the bootcamps I’ve attended. Then there’s obviously the handful of Cog members that have given such a richness to my hobby and feeling of community here over time. The people that I have turned to for hobby advice and to revel in the shared love for all things OnTableTop that only we happy few can attest to and understand.
When I get to play games again at my local club I think there’s potential to play Bolt Action, Saga, Walking Dead, Frostgrave and Shadespire, maybe 40K even, but I think I look forward to a game of Walking Dead and Saga most. The Walking Dead was my first boot camp at BoW HQ and has always been so easy to find opponents for and have fun playing with. I want to see how bad my Irish army painted in lockdown will fair against those vicious Normans. Also my Japanese Bolt Action army painted this last year would be fun to play against some of my clubmates’ British Burma lists.
Almost got that codebuster, but not yet. Bear with me.
Big Luv from Dug.
@dignety you sweet child of summer – “very old from like the 90s” ….
I both really want to get back to gaming, but am really reluctant to do so while I feel like it could endanger others. Personally I’m in a pretty low risk category being under 40 with very average health.
The thought of mass gatherings are making me particularly uneasy. That change in a few months as the vaccine roll out continues but right now I’m trying not to think about it!
Once we can get back together I’m looking to play all the stuff I’ve been painting for the last year. Mostly picking up where I left off as I have been trying to focus on finishing projects over starting new ones.
Where is Sam these days? What’s he up to? I miss him!
Thanks for the golden button guys! Always an honour to be recognised for a job well done ?.
Well done to the other guys too. Some fab work there.
Catching up with last weeks’ XLBS… 😉
Here in Croatia we only had maybe a month of lockdown, so my RPG group met regularly, once a week. Even when I had a fire in my living area of the house we still met once a week (moved the gaming table from the dining room to the kitchen). Now that the renovation of the living area is complete, the table is back, we are barbecuing every week (the weather is getting better and better) and roleplaying.
Wargaming and boardgaming is not back on the table but soon…
So there was almost no loss of gaming with friends in person.
Have to agree with Justin, really looking forward to conventions again.
Need to get my Spring Clean Challenge posted! My used Mumak I picked up!
@warzan my buddy Drew and I are doing our Shadow Deep Set in Middle Earth. Basically changing the names of places to Middle Earth names and using creatures from Middle Earth to represent different creatures! Having a blast as the two of us take Rohan Rangers through the campaign.
Great show everyone!
