Now now…… If you take the Hobbit Trilogy as a stand-alone, (not comparing it to the book), it’s pretty good! You can all hate on me if you want, but I preferred the Hobbit Trilogy over the Lord of the Ring Trilogy. LotR is just too dark and depressing. The Hobbit Trilogy is a little brighter as they are trying to repatriate the Dwarves to their homeland.
.
NOPE…..@avernos the worst TV adaptation of a book series was the abysmal attempt to bring ‘The Dresden Files’ to the small screen. I threw up and screamed, (at the same time), at the TV the whole time… So very very bad!
.
Cubical 7’s VICTORIANA PLAYER’S GUIDE looks very intersting.
.
I always buy new dice for a new character.
.
The 10mm armies are magical. I’m up to three now and looking at the ‘Empire of Man’ minis as well. I never knew what I was missing before they were introduced to me on this show. I’ve even started two 6mm ACW armies. I don’t see doing anymore 6mm armies though. Just the ACW stuff for now.
.
Talking about old BoW episodes….I’ve been trying to find the ones where the boys were building the Shed also known as ‘Studio ONE’. I think? I can’t really remember if it had a name. Loved seeing you guys not let the separation from your old studio hold you back and you just build what you could afford and kept on making videos! Well DONE.
.
.
Well DONE to the Golden Button Winners! (I need to find those Fairy Tale miniatures….many hours of searching ahead of me now)

My longest-running D&D Campaign ran every other weekend for five years. It started in nineteen hundred and eighty-seven. Four players were there almost every time, but there were about eight other players who came and went. Technically, the campaign never ended. It’s on hiatus but there is talk about getting it to kick into gear again. Now that everyone has their children raised and out on their own and time is opening up as we are all slowing down as time goes by. It started in the AD&D system, with an all-custom world. I have been revamping it to 5e. But some of the players are asking if we get it running again if we can just keep it in the AD&D as that is what they remember.
Here you go mate I found a couple of them 🙂

Happy Sunday to All!
I never played D&D. Seriously. I’m playing pen&paper RPGs since 1986, and nowadays a almost exclusively play and gamemaster our very own stories within a very narrative ‘rule’set we stole from the Demonhunter RPG and tweaked a bit to our liking, and we either play in settings of our own making, or in settings from media we like with our own characters. But back in the days, we played published RPGs like Star Wars from WEG, Ghostbusters from WEG, Rolemaster from ICE, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay from GW, Cyberpunk from Richard Talsorian Games, Call of Cthulhu from Chaosium, Paranoia from WEG, and a couple of others. Some of them only for a few weeks, others for years.
Good to hear Michael Caine is reprising his role of Elfie in the new Lord of the Rings series
@fcostin You’ve realised don’t like building stuff? Enjoy the calm and serenity that will envelop you now that truth has been revealed to you
@brennon Lovely 10mm work. I would suggest 2ps then you can differing number of figures on bases denoting what they are more easily
Pendraken do some nice bulk buys for bases https://www.pendraken.co.uk/bulk-deals-846-c.asp
Our group played in our own made up world for about 20 odd years with each regular player having there own country they would frun as a DM
Here’s how the LotR-show is going to play out: It will show, get seen, then people will excrete loads of reaction-videos and talk-abouts into the digital ether like anyone would care, they will either love it or hate hate it, basically none in-between, and then people will scream at each other continuously and the argument will quickly be impregnated with idiotic political ideologies from each and every side, and I will be hoping that all these inane bozos would die already.
Those animal adventurers Free is painting up are cool!
Happy Sunday all. Great work on the 10mm Ben. I’m even more tempted now to start my own collection. Really like the blue scheme. I use MDF for my small scale as I like that lip and I find they sit better. I also cut them myself so it is cheaper. I do love the smaller scales. Justin’s D&D group art is cracking and a great idea so glad it turned out well. I’m looking forward to hearing more about a war party of arm breaking murder geese, maybe in a future expansion of Root. Looking forward to a fantasy battles video and hoping today to get chance to watch the Draco studios interview.
Happy Sunday… My longest running DnD campaign has been running about 3 years 10 months and is still going.
If with your best efforts to kill us off…….
Happy Sunday!
Wow, some inspiring buttons this week.
I presume @brennon that you would have caught up with the news that the production of the Lord of the Rings series is leaving New Zealand’s shores. The sets will be shipped over, hope the Space Cowboy has his own fleet of ships, otherwise good luck with that at the moment.
Post production finishes up in June of next year and that will likely be the end of NZ’s involvement, unless they get more scenery shots, including for green screen or Volume type work.
The NZ cast and crew learnt about this when the press release hit the US media outlets, articles published and were promoted via social media….
They next did a very Kiwi thing, immediately downing tools and went to the pub.
The workers later got emails confirming the stories. Roughly 2,00o people were directly or indirectly employed by this production, which NZ was told was likely to be continuing here for 3 or 4 seasons worth.
I read about it in passing. I presumed it meant production was moving to the UK to make use of the giant sound stages at Ealing and Pinewood as all the outside work in NZ had been completed
Part of the reason was the British members of the cast and crew hadn’t see their family and friends in person for 2 years, in some cases, due to the pandemic and how NZ reacted to it.
That and Amazon has a big production office(s) in the UK now.
Amazon had promised quite a bit of work and investment here (NZ) but I don’t know that was ever written in a contract, application or bid. Probably not going to happen now, I would be surprised if their next applications wasn’t looked at with as much favour by the NZ Film Commission. Other production studios seem to be quite keen to come here.
I think our restrictions at the border meant that some high Amazon mucky-mucks couldn’t come for tours here once we locked down…
Interesting since our cricketers seem to come and go as they please. So much so that NZ Cricket is managing who goes on what tour so that individuals aren’t spending 2 weeks in isolation too many times, for mental health reasons.
I guess the movie/tv industry just loves to screw over people …
then again … one of the reasons the movies were filmed there was because they were promised tax breaks so it was inevitable they’d leave as soon as something ‘cheaper’ was found.
It’s always the little people who suffer, isn’t it ?
The boys up top always get the profits.
@brennon the new LOTR series is set during the second age and Amazon have confirmed that the show will be set in the Age of Númenor (or the Second Age). This is the 3,441 year period ahead of The Fellowship of the Ring. The Silmarillion starts before the first age during the year of Lamps which is called the Quenta Silmarillion and ends during the first age.
@avernos I’m mildly wierded out by the fact our Wardrobes of Storing (+5) at the very least appear to share the same internal geometry, given my own copy of Sedition Wars is pretty much at the bottom of my Tetroid storage pattern (which reminds me at some point I need to paint all those minis, given the hard part of actually assembling them is out of the way).
Funny thing Sedition Wars. Can’t help but think if CMON had made it today it would have done much better critically. They’ve certainly gotten down the method for translating stunning sculpts into pre-assembled minis. I know my enthusiasm for it would not have been quite so drained if not for the hassle of building everything, and the material they were made from (there is another conversation to be had about the rules…)
@avernos Warcraft was done as a supplement for RPG that came out by Sword and Sorcery Studios for 3.5 DnD along with Diablo and Starcraft. They then did a second edition rule set. The studio also did the Everquest rules aswell.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warcraft:_The_Roleplaying_Game
The same studio also did the EverQuest 1 and 2 RPGs using the 3.5 system.
Lol Donald Duck meets his match, Hi CoGz.
Lol Gerrys cupboard looks like the floor Indy got dumped in to?
They need to get the simarillion film made with it’s army’s of dragon’s an balrok’s.
@dignity If you decide to do a Fallout RPG, count me in.
Please no… Lenny Henry is a terrible actor
what do you mean Arry?
Thought the guys said he was in the new LOTR series
that was my patented Lenny Henry impression
Oops, my bad.. ?
I now have an image of Odin sat at a table with Gerry and Lloyd on one side sayung; take Saga for instance, Ben on the other side going on about Burrows and Badgers, along with Warren peaking over Odin’s shoulder going; I’ve got a code buster for you…. Poor old Odin is slumped with one hand on his cheek…thinking when will Ragnarok come………Loki come back all is forgiven…
Congrats to the button winner’s.
An a COGs salute from Gerry at the end.
I’m not sure links work here but. Oh it did work
Happy Sunday.
Three very nice Golden Buttons there.
Really great Golden Button winners, excellent work!
I started gaming back in the late 70s and can’t give an exact duration for any of my D&D campaigns (which were played every Friday night) but I don’t think any lasted longer than a year. We did alternate GMs to give us all a chance to play and we did adventure almost exclusively in Greyhawk so at least we felt like there was a sense of consistency.
My gaming club is due to reform at the start of next month and I’m currently prepping to run Robert J. Schwalb’s PunkApocalyptic RPG with some elements of the original PunkApocalyptic skirmish game from Bad Roll Games. Rob’s rules (based on his Shadow of the Demon Lord game) are quick to pick up and easy to use and Bad Roll just have WAY too much info (all free) to use as part of the background setting that it would a crime not to. I can see me running a few skirmish battles to use as local events to also help flesh things out. It has really helped pique my interest in returning to ‘face-to-face’ gaming.
HONK
You been having a gander at XLBS?
@brennon,there should be a load of 3mm epvc sheets and off cuts in the office, have some to Gerry the last time I was up. Can get more and send it on
Happy Sunday lovely people! Stop saying Alexa Justin!!!
Great hobby this week. Whenever I see fairytale minis it spurs me to think about getting into Demented Game’s Twisted. Wonderful work on these ones and a great collection of beautiful sculpts.
Longest AD&D campaign was likely in late 80’s when 2nd edition was new and shiny. Group of 4 of us played weekly in the world of Greyhawk for a little over 2 years. Brought a lot of the old 1e and prior stories forward between our homebrewed stuff. Even shoehorn’d in 1e Battlesystem at the end with my basement floor covered in cardboard chits and couches stacked to keep the dog out.
Happy Sunday all. I was part of a werewolf the apocalypse campaign that lasted over 3 years. My character was the only original character to make it to the end, she then made the wrong choice and doomed the Earth to destruction.
Happy Su…. WTF?!
00:30 @avernos set on destroying people… XD
04:00 LotR “TV” Amazon series… I still think that is Director Orson Callan Krennic in the front of that…
07:20 Nobody mentions “The Watch” XD
11:45 Hobby…. on a XLBS? Heresy!
18:30 Gerry goes *wush* and after all is burned the metal minis have encased him XD
23:00 Alexa… play music!
33:00 Aliens… love? oO dafuq?! What did I miss @brennon
40:00 RPGs on animals are all fine and dandy but… Let’s make an RPG with plants!
40:30 HONK HONK
42:00 Flock! FLOCK IT ALL!
50:30 bringing down chaos!
53:50 Teeth!
1:04:00 I’d say: most companies would do tabletop and boardgames… but they just want such a big sum of money for the licence… it’s not financial feasible for any board game maker. There is no micro transaction you can stuff into analogue games… at least not yet.
1:16:00 Mantic terrain… I hope I get a mostly complete box from my twitch-haul XD
1:17:00 growing in the waste is a sign of wealth because you can afford to eat! Nobody can convince me otherwise.
Is this the terrain video that was talked about? https://youtu.be/kVk5_zrX6Po
How Long Did Your Biggest D&D Campaign Last? – 0 seconds… as far as I can remember I never played D&D XD
I have had a few long running games over the past few decades of GMing.
We normally have one ‘main’ game with one or two side games going.
D&D Forgotten Realms game (in the North) – 1992-1996 4 years (player)
D&D Forgotten Realms game (Cormyr and Cormanthyr)_ – 1996 – 2003 7 years (GM)
D&D Greyhawk Cmpaign game 2004 – 2009 – 5 years (GM)
Star Wars Edge of the Empire 2012 – 2017 5 years (GM)
Recently we have been going through the D&D 5th modules books. We have played through 4 of them but are now swing back to home grown long campaigns.
Two D&D games being run in Fantasy Grounds (Pandemic and flexibility)
Stated a Star Wars game using the Genesys rules. This might be swapped for one shots in Terrinoth to experiment more with fantasy in the Genesys setting as we enjoy the spellcasting and system.
The character in the New Middle-earth series… Betcha that’s Sauron! I’m guessing the series will center around his deceptive nature towards the races of M.E. and causing the downfall of Numenor
@brennon Warbases might be worth checking out for your 10mm bases. They do movement trays that would probably do want you want, but if not, they do custom work as well.
Modiphius RPG. Yes you should do a show with you playing that.
Can you please, please, please do their Infinity role-playing game.
That is the only Kickstarter I ever backed, but still haven’t got to play it.
I would love to see you play that.
Just back from Ballintoy, so happy Sunday……
I’ve been roleplaying with the same group (give or take a few members) since 1984. We’ve gone through 4 editions of D&D (we only played 1 session of 4th – it was a heap of crap), Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (the most brutal hth combat), Traveller, Gurps (the most open ended character creation), MERPs (it was impossible to try not to relive the LoTR books), GammaWorld (the original Fallout), Rogue Trader (FFG’s WHFRP in space) and Rolemaster (the most graphic critical hit tables in any RPG). We are 6 years into our current campaign and as we enter the 16-18 level range we are all looking at retiring characters as the speed and severity of combat is making the game extremely unwieldly.
BTW this version of Kill Team is proof that GW can screw up even the simpliest of revisions. They can’t stand open play now and ‘you will play with what we tell you!’
Hello. I was told that my channel was featured on an episode of XLBS 2 months ago. Can anyone point to me which one it is? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lgv9-qOrRWo&lc=UgwXWoSsxSmNYjEanwB4AaABAg.9O3HFOdOPjh9O5n3POEpKs
