Sooooo, Matty loves Saga. In all the games we have played over the last couple of years I have only beaten him once. He refuses point blank to upgrade to version 2 because he doesn’t want to jinx his winning streak. Out of the window went our planned game of Dropzone Commander and in came Saga (Matty wanted a McDonalds and figured he could con me into buying him one by beating me at Saga).
The battle was on.
I tried something new by putting my Warllord out on my flank with no protection which tempted Matty into placing a Warrior Unit and a small Sling armed Levy unit out on the same flank. However it was a ploy and on my first turn I moved my Warlord back into the safety of my Heathguard units, leaving both his units a long slog across the board to get into the fight. It also meant Matty’s central units were outnumbered.
In all honesty, Matty played well, and after the first couple of turns I did think it was going to be another drubbing for me but a timely use of “Intimidation” (prevents a unit from activating) I was able to delay His Hearthguard for a turn and it gave me a chance to pull the game back a bit.
By the last turn matty played a sneaky move on me, activating his Warlord twice and getting into Melee with my own, removing the fatigue he got from the double move with one of those pesky Viking tricks from the Battle Board. Fortunately I still had a trick of my own and gained a single extra attack dice which luckily was enough to get me a draw in the Melee and force him to withdraw into move range of my only surviving Warrior unit.
In my turn I charged his Warlord with my Warriors, hoping to put some fatigue on him to give my ,now in range, Hearthguard a fighting chance. Luckily for me, my Warriors were enough and managed to kill Matty’s Warlord…. although it didn’t save me from having to buy Matty his Big Mac……..
