I did more than a few 1:35 scale military models when I was a kid. I never painted them, because the standard model paint was enamel (nasty stuff, required the use of chemical thinner). Tamiya did have a range of acrylic paints but the smell was equally awfull. Wargamers have got it real easy these days.
It kind of sucks that there aren’t any model shops left nearby. I used to love just walking in and looking at the stuff.
We used to have one in a town nearby run by twin brothers, which had a ton of diorama stuff (‘Verlinden Productions’ … expensive as heck, but incredible detail) as well as pretty much any thing you could imagine. Good times …
@biggabum : scale models tend to have a lot more detail (and they’re also quite fragile) when compared to the average wargaming kit I’ve seen so far. They’re also far more intricate to build, but worth every minute if you spend time on them.
