Hi guys 🙂
Not much painting happening as I just wasn’t feeling it this weekend, but did get some building done:
Had a spare Primaris Lt lying around so tried out a regular marine Powerfist to see how it looked
Tried to 40k-up a 30k Chaplain,
And picked up a Space Wolf Dreadnought cheap off Ebay that needed a bit of TLC. Seller included an extra set of weapon sprues so was able to kit it out as a Venerable Dread with a Great Axe and Blizzard Shield. I’ve spares of each left over so it’s tempting to look into converting up a Contemptor the same way….
Onto the questions 🙂
(1) How do you deal with a cold or flu?
Typically try to work through it, load up on cold & flu meds, if all else fails spicy food to burn the beggar out…
(2) Can you hobby when you feel run down?
I try to. If nothing else engaging in these threads, reading some fluff or an army book, even just playing around with some kits, but probably not painting as that does tend to prove a struggle….
(3) Your opinion on the entertainment industry of the 1980s is…?
…heavily fueled by pharmaceuticals 😀
(4) Name a tv show you liked when you were younger or a child
Gods I have to pick just one? Whelp in that case I’d have to go with Ulysses 31. More than any other show, this one really dug it’s claws in when I was younger. I think the fact it was purely an animated show – no toyline or comic books – made it stand out as a notable rarity in the landscape of 80’s kids shows, and the fact it was a French/Japanese co-production lent it a particular feel that no other show really came close to.
(5) What toys or tv shows influenced you, directly or not, a little or a lot into this broad hobby?
Well Heroquest & Space Crusade are the reasons I’m involved in this hobby, as seeking out extra units, quests & missions are what led me to White Dwarf and the local GW (back when Terminators were £2 for a blister of 2). Otherwise GIJoe and the manga of Masamumne Shirow meant that Infinity really “clicked” with me, and are part of the reason I got back into the hobby in 2011 after peacing out in ’08.
What else on the weekends docket? I finished Corax: Lord of Shadows from the Horus Heresy – Primarchs series. A great read that brings into relief some of flaws in the character of the master of the Raven Guard, which I appreciate this series has been making all the Primarchs far more understandable. Next I’ve got the mass market release of Tallarn, the collected edition of the stories set during the planet wide tank battle that was the largest such engagement of the Heresy, and I have The Raven Tower to get through, the first fantasy novel from Ann Leckie, the author whose debut book (Ancillary Justice) won the Hugo, Nebula and Arthur C Clarke SF awards, and to date each book has maintained that level of quality…
Also got a podcast recommendation – The Battlestar Galacticast, an episode by episode retrospective of the 2000’s reboot hosted by Number 6 herself Tricia Heffer and writer Mark Bernadin (he wasn’t involved in the show but he writes for TV so brings that perspective), with (occasionally fueled by alcohol) guest appearances from members of the cast. Really interesting stuff, and frequently hilarious as they go into just how bonkers the shows production could get….
