  • Spring (on the northern hemisphere): blessing or curse?

Absolute blessing. I love spring. If I could, I’d make it spring all year round. Lovely warm days – but the risk it might be cold, or rainy, or windy make the still, warm summer-y ones all the more special. Leaf-less trees with the green haze of new growth, blossom everywhere – I swear people smile more too. Yep, definitely a blessing.

  • Bright evil day star: miniature gaming outside, yes, no, are you mad?

Are you crazy?! There are some things you do inside, no matter how much your weird neighbours might try to convince you otherwise. Watching telly. Baking a cake. Playing tabletop games. Some things are for indoors only.

  • Are you well hydrated?

I don’t think our kettle is ever anything cooler than “warming down”. Tea, coffee, another tea, f@*k it, let’s go crazy and have two brews in a row. I drink plenty. I’m not having it that if it’s not bottled water, you’re not “hydrated properly”. Tea is just water with a slight staining to it after all 😉

In other news – we’re looking to join a narrowboat syndicate. Having our own boat outright again seems a bit too far out of reach (the annual licencing alone would be the best part of £1500, mooring around £3k a year….) but if we’re accepted into the co-op, we’ll be back on the canals for a week or two, three or four times a year, which is going to be awesome!

More news – I helped my childhood hero Timmy Mallett get his bike across the sea lock gates in Southwick this afternoon, as my wife and I returned from the seafront having a coffee. He was every bit as colourful, bizarre, and brilliant as you would expect. (As an explosion of colour and lycra and glasses approached from the other side, I whispered to Nick “look at this guy, he thinks he’s Timmy Mallett or something” – only a few seconds later to proclaim “f@*k me, it’s Timmy Mallett!”)

Music – I’ve been playing quite a bit of blues on my guitar lately but I’m not really a fan of “blues-y blues”. I like “happy blues”. Like the up-tempo, foot-tapping, country-rock blues. Then I fell down the Youtube algorithm rabbithole, and listened to *a lot* of “Americana” and country-and-western.

This song really struck a chord:

Pledge: learn some country songs. Yeah, I know it’s not all about painting miniatures. But it turns out that life’s not like that 😉

Ok, finish my half-a-human team (for Blood Bowl sevens).
