Four pancakes in and my belly was full!
Savoury pancakes you say? When I lived in France we called those galettes.
My neighbours made sure to point out that a savoury pancake (galette) was absolutely nothing like the abomination I showed them we created once a year (I didn’t see the difference myself!)
As Phillipe pointed out – I see now why you Brits have just one single day in the whole year when you make yourselves sick on these horrible, stodgy, sickly monstrosities and then never cook them again.
I think he secretly liked them but just didn’t want his wife to think he didn’t like her galettes….
(then again, they did used to put Nutella in galettes as well, so maybe they weren’t just for savoury fillings after all).
I love the idea of bacon and onions and cheese in a pancake.
But the rules, here in the UK, are that pancakes can only be topped with lemon juice (ideally not even fresh lemon but from a squeezy plastic bottle) and sugar and eaten on just one day in the year. I don’t know who made them up. I can feel a revolution coming on….
