In the past I have used Citadel Purity Seal on miniatures without any issues – but I used Administorum for the first time today and it made my metallic and blue tones quite ‘dusty’.

Weather/temp conditions were good. Has anyone else had this experience? are there better vanishes that would enhance coulors?

I didn’t mind my cult looking a bit dusty with the varnish – but I don’t want that effect on these Eldar and Hsarlequins 🙁

And I spent ages blending metallic on these gang-members including colour-shifts 🙂

I find the GW are ABSOLUTE RUBBISH

Use the army painter Satin Varnish Spray and see how you get on. Test it on something first though. Avoid GW varnishes. They are the devil.

I used to use GW rattlecan varnishes but had similar problems to those you describe more than once so I moved to the more game-durable army painter dip with a dull coat varnish over the top.  My current spray of choice for this is Testors Spray Lacquer.  It is an American product but available from specialist suppliers and some enlightened FLGS here in the UK and Europe, as well as Amazon.  Spray thin coats and respray another thin coat if the model is still too shiny.  Not perfect but the best result I had having worked through GW, Humbrol and Army Painter alternatives.  Best of luck finding your ideal finish.
