Damn Corona-chan!!! It seems that we’ve lost our way with the Gaming Spirit due to the malaise of isolation. Its been a whole week into February and we’re not snagging normies. Despite Punxsutawney Phil seeing his shadow and declaring more winter here in the US there needs to be some sort of way we can sidestep into the Realm of the Regulars to spread our influence like this pestilence (without the terminal part that is). Anyone have ideas on how we might be able to better spread the good word of gaming in these times?

I’m sure that Justin can build some sort of reliable t-shirt cannon to fire from the heights of Beast Tower to waylay unsuspecting passers-by trying to avoid social interactions.

“spread” – bad choice of words! 😉

But I have no idea on how to bring in fresh blood….

TTS is bad…. IMHO really bad. It’s not coming close to real play and as such is not really suited to “real in” normies…

@noyjat Its slow, fiddly doesn’t respond properly.  Game  that should take a couple of hours seems to take forever on TTS

@noyjatat I couldn’t tell you what game it was (might have been X-Wing or a ordinary game board) but the whole “feel” of a physical game is lost. it just felt horribly sluggish and unnerving. I’m just not the target audience for that kind of software. And it doesn’t transport all those things a real tabletop wargaming game gives you. The banter, running around the table, picking up gaming pieces and last but not least: show what you can to with minis painting wise. That is simple not available on TTS. I get why people use it rather then not play at all but for me personally it just leaves a bad taste… 🙂

Maybe a focus on games that can be played solo ?

TTS is not something you’d inflict on a ‘normie’.
You’re better off trying any of the dedicated videogame conversions of boardgames out there, but those lack the feel of playing a tabletop game, which means you’re actually converting them to videogamers and not tabletop enthusiasts.

I’ve been using Board Game Arena for playing board games, and Universal Battle 2 for Mantic’s Firefight and Kings of War (they both work well on the top down game table view).

Now I’m lucky if I can find half an hour a week to snag a normie.

Well we have a current trend of people watching The Queen’s Gambit. Needless to say they all won’t be Chess Prodigies.

Show them there is another way, even if you have to pretend to like GeeDubya a bit for it to work.

Give free historical rule sets and paper craft minis to home schooling parents who want to give their kids something educational to do  during lock down?

P.S.: Why do I feel like the young Turk that gets thrown out the window in that meme?
