    Mighty Ape, the New Zealand online store, has just posted the following to Facebook:

    “Unfortunate news. We have only been allocated a single copy of the upcoming Beast Snagga Box by GW. As a result we will not be running pre-orders. If we do end up with additional stock at some stage, then it will be made available on a first in, first served basis at that time.”

    There was no elaboration as to why just the single copy.  Mighty Ape is a big player in the NZ market, giving local club members discounts and prize support for some tournaments.

    So if you are planning to pick this up, you might have to be quick or use GW (and still be quick).

    That is really bad and ridiculous, they did quite well with Dominion and said they will do the same for Kill Team, though I’m quite sure Kill Team will sell faster than Dominion. And now we got this shit again.

    I got a mail from a shopt that I’m ordering quite often in which they asked for the interest in the Beast Snagga box and Kill Team.

    EDIT:

    Just saw that video from Chapter master Valrak:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efmbUgRUG6w

    it seems that retailers only get one box, if that is true the that is extremely stupid.

    I’m not likely to want the new Kill Team box, nor the new Orks (they’re dashed lovely but I don’t need new projects) – but the regular “expression of interest” emails from the stores I use are off-putting. IMO the blame lies squarely with GW here, not the retailers.

    Between brexit, the pandemic and the fallout from the Suez traffic jam, global trade is still tricky but this does smell of more exploiting fomo, more quasi-limited edition releases and I just can’t be arsed with it.

    I just want to buy toys without fuss and gw do not seem to want to offer this any more. To repeat myself: Can’t. Be. Arsed.

    One copy ?
    That’s … I mean … I can’t even find words to express but … damn.

    It sucks that shops can’t stop selling GW products, because they’d losing out on a lot of sales.
    However with tactics like that it’s as if GW wants them to quit selling their product.

    — edit —

    I’ve checked with my FLGS.
    If they’ve got an answer I’ll let you know.

    Yeah seems a bit strange to give one per retailer. At that point they’d have been as well just making it webstore exclusive for themselves. Given retailers (assuming the box will RRP at £125) will have paid £68 per box, I can see why GW will prefer to just sell a limited run at full price on their own store. Still a dick move to short them

    I wouldn’t mind it as much if they did a “G’Wullu store exclusive” if they were upfront with it. But this “Here comes the new shit… and it’s gone” is just beyond anything

    True but I don’t think they will change in that department.

    I generelly dislike alsl those limited/while stock last boxes, sure Dominion is still available but I think the Beastsnaggas and Killteam will be gone within hours.

    They should just stop with that limited stuff or sell it all seperately at the same date, I think it’s really stupid to release a codex + models earlier in a limited box and if you don’t get that box you have to wait weeks for a new codex.

    But that system seems to be profitabel for GW so they wont change it.

    got mail from my FLGS.
    They will have limited supply, but they are in good standing with GW (due to the volume of sales they tend to have) and have been allowed to order ‘more’.
    I was told to not wait too long after saturday 11:00 (the time they update their store).

    So yeah … rumours confirmed (to the point that supply will be limited).

    To the surprise of nobody… sadly

    true … and I think that if anyone was surprised by this then they haven’t looked at GW’s history with this type of product.
    We also should consider the simple fact that due to the Event (stay indoors!) and that thing in the Suez canal the global logistics have been f*cked up. So shipping to locations that was expensive before sure as hell is going to be stupendously expensive now.

    And to be honest … it is a bit of a gamble, because not everyone into 40k is going to ‘need’ those new minis that come with the codex.
    It’s not like this is an army that didn’t have any models at all.
    True … most of the stuff the Orks have dates back to the previous century or thereabouts, but they still have their core troops and a ‘start collecting’ set.

    I wouldn’t be surprised if we’d see the contents of this box in a new Ork ‘start collecting’ set as it is similar to the AoS version (orks on beasts, troops and a few heroes).

    The communication from GW towards their shops and 3rd parties should have been better, but that has been an issue since forever and it doesn’t look like they will ever fix that.

    We could tell people to stop buying GW products, but the fact is that people like what they make and the number of people playing their systems is big enough that you practically ‘need’ to buy stuff from them if you want to play a game.

    A community that is biased towards a different system would suffer the same problems ..

    // status update
    GW is using the same queueing system that they had for the AoS boxed set.
    It was to be expected …

    So the shop I mentioned which asked for interest in the box sent me an e-mail yesterday, the finally got the number of how much they will be getting from GW nad of course it was not enough. So they went through their list and I wouldn’t get one.

    The limited nature isn’t the biggets problem, everything will likely be released seperately but with teh box you get the codex early. And that is dumb, they should just release the codex alongside this box.

    GW has fully embraced FOMO and loves the ‘new phenomena’ of being 100% sold out. AoS 1st Ed bombed hard, several editions of 40K didn’t do great either and for a few years GW watched on as XWing sold out across the globe. Imaginbe the diference these to different statements sound, and which one gets said in the board room;

    “We produced 10.000 units, sold 8,000 in week one. Everyone that wanted one got one and we’re confident the remaining 2,000 will sell over time. ”

    “We produced 7,000 units, sold every unit at a premium price and still soldout! Customers were buying anything they could lay their hands on!”

    You gotta laugh, don’t you….

    Here I am, sitting in New Zealand, been using the GW online store through out of the day, on and off, with only two issues that were problems on Friday….

    And at 10:15 PM, I try to navigate to a different page on the store and I get put in a queue…

    NZ went live with the Ork box pre-orders just over 12 hours ago, and I didn’t have this issue.

    Queue lengths are around the 20 to 30 minute mark.

    What the UK gets up to really shouldn’t effect me, but I guess it does, sigh.

    @horus500 I can’t blame GW (or any other business) for trying … because from a business point of view it makes perfect sense.
    Especially if the chance of anyone missing out quitting 40k/AoS is soo small it is worth it.

    I think a community in a more fragile state wouldn’t survive such tactics.

    //
    I ‘missed out’ on my chance to buy, but at the same time I am ok with not getting this at launch as the core components are going to be available at a later date anyway. The two boss figures are likely to remain exclusive.
    And as for the data cards … the idea is cool, but they’ll be outdate when the next chapter improved updates stats and tweaks units (which will happen as the army has been given new features that wil wreck the current meta).
