It’s friday and why not. This week I have avoided the ‘news’ (except when I was litening to the radio in the bath) and it does make you feel better. So, how are all of you? Rested and ready for another round of combat I hope.

Make sure you read all of this before you start as it saves any problems later. If you just want to come and leave some snotty comment then just don’t bother as I won’t even read it! Anyone who misses the point should go somewhere else until they do. It is just for fun and nothing else. Get over it.

First thing you have to do is make your “pledge“. It is really easy…anythng gaming related will do. Play a game, stick stuff together, slop some paint, or do it all if you want. The best bit is that you don’t have to finish it! No, in here ‘happiness is the road‘ and you are just suppose to have fun while having fun. You do need to support your work with photographic evidence.

We like a bit of chatter, but no text speak or using the word “basically”. Try it, it’s really good. To get this going I present you a few questions. See…the excitement never stops.

    1. What do you like to watch? Be specific. Do you know why?

    2. When you see a new miniature what do you think? Do you see a use for it or just buy it because you are a Magpie? If you are looking for something new or for a project how do you pick what you want?

    3. Tell us some things that you want to do in the future…either tomorrow or sometime?

It is expected that you accompany your work with only the every best mooziks. Write us a playlist so we can discover new stuff, but no wuss rock. No headphones either and play at 11. However, don’t stop there. Post some pictures, boast, brag, tell a story, a joke, but make sure you join in!

In here it is Scottish pub rules: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS. However, if it better makes your point or you need to point something out then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. This sign explains all…

    dbkcdhdmj0jgwiayrxjak3s9pvucwcxz

There is only one rule that cannot be altered…NO DICKS. Firms. If you have any complaints about ‘the rules’ then it is tough. I don’t care. They are what they are. I am a massive dick, but like all good overlords the rules don’t apply to me. A-HA, HA, HA, HA, HA…

    You may begin.

@ceppie – how! 200pts. I don’t think you have ever been first. Mandela effect – I knew it.

Technicaly, you are only half-first since there was no answers OR pledge! I can prove it on an Etch-a-Sketch. Who had one of those? Totally bloody useless if you ask me.

That would make a good question for another time: xmas presents from people who you thought knew you, but bought you something that made you wonder if they had ever met you.

@rayzryr – spelling your name reminds me of spelling Lynyrd Skynryd! 200pts. If you ever play strip ‘Hangman’ the LS is a great one to choose as it contains no vowels.

As for “i’m in this week”…i’ll be the judge of that. Get to work.

Watching TV rots the brain. Why do you think they are called “programmes”? 500pts. Well, as long as you are not watching ‘Friends’, or something equally as evil, then I might overlook it.

Jamie is about to be introduced to Babylon 5.

@mage – at least you made your pledge! 1000pts. Don’t drop my radio in the bath…are you coming on to me? Sorry, I am a flowers first girl!

If you want a confession – I downloaded an app on my phone so I can listen to Talk Radio while I am in the bath. Now I have 3 apps. Totally down with the kids.

I look forward to seeing your biker squad. 200pts.

How about some definitions? Do you have words/expressions for things where you are from – like these…

As for my pledge – I shall be doing more scatter terrain bits, finishing the outside of the garage for Infinity, 3-4 Infinity minis to put together, and I would like to do some more painting on the Traktor Muls.

However, we are having a family day oot and I might have to work overtime. We usually have a day out for my birthday, but this is the first time we have had the chance. Nothing spectacular…we are heading over to the woods and river where I used to go when I was growing up. A few bacon sangers, Puggies can go swimming in the river, and I might join them!

Ernie is joining us this year for the first time now he is officially “in”. Then again, the weather is not too inspiring today so it might be called off.

Toast time. Play nice until I get back.

@mage – I did it on the bedroom door and Heather went Bez! I thought it was hilarious, but she was orbital with rage. However, it does sound awesome. If you like that there are some better ones if you have some time on your hands.

How about a ‘Boston Pancake’ or ‘Californian Suntan’?

Progress is slow but happening after payday errands, cooking and tidying. Ill get some pictures up shortly of my work this past week. It will be a bit pick heavy with what Ive assembled, primed and reworked.

    1.

    Television Programs lately
    **************************************

American Dad, Family guy, South Park*, Simpsons*, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Community, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Orville (I can’t believe its not Star Trek!) Schitts Creek… Yeah most of these are comedies. I like some Netflix: Daredevil, Punisher, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones. Ive rewatched Star Trek Deep Space Nine recently, so good. I mean to rewatch Life on Mars but keep putting it off. Star Trek Discover. Black Lightning Season 1 was ok, good at times but Season too was super bad. Titans is amazing on Netflix as is the Umbrella Academy.

Anime: Bleach, Fullmetal Alcehmist Brotherhood, Deathnote, Attack on Titan, Martian Ascendant Nadesico. I mean to watch ‘To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts but don’t want to sign up to an Anime streaming Network. I havent been watching as much Anime as I used to. I could name more. Full Metal Panic.

Stuff I am keen to watch when it lands:

I could recommend youtube channels I like also.

    *not so much any more

    2. When you see a new miniature what do you think? Do you see a use for it or just buy it because you are a Magpie? If you are looking for something new or for a project how do you pick what you want?

I think ‘ohhhh that’s a big impressive one I cant justify an army for one model and its expensive but…..’. Magpie all the way, bukaw!

Ill use an example to the third question. I want to start an Adeptus Mechanicus army for 40k. I have looked up a tactics article which is detailed. I will need the Codex and Datacards, and I will start with two Start Collecting Sets (comes with a decent core for an army) and add in Kastellan Robots, particularly the Apocalypse box. A quick, flexible, practically army with a solid core to branch out with.

    3. Tell us some things that you want to do in the future…either tomorrow or sometime?

Go back to martial arts for one, keep the exercise regime ongoing and get more of it, go back runnin. Playing more games: Warhammer Underworlds, Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000. Paint up a few 40k detachments for the Badab War. Play more of my Nintendo Switch games. Try get to Salute, visit Warhammer World, see Japan.

    As for music:

Pledge: Something something hobby. It’s best I don’t commit, as my weekends rarely turn out as planned. The residential sergeant major has a list…

    1. What do I watch? War documentaries. Weird. I can see the same one fifty times but if it comes on TV everything stops, and I adopt a trance like state, with a stream of spittle dripping off my chin. The WWII ones have the worst effect on me. The new ones are good too, but there’s often unwanted analysis tossed in by pundits who don’t necessarily have a grip on the subject matter, or themselves. I’m looking at you, Lynette Nusbacher. I can draw my own conclusions, thank you.

    2. I’m not a magpie when it comes to figures. I have set orbats for all my fantasy armies, and really only look for figures that fill slots or capabilities. For instance, I have long been looking for artillery for my orc horde, and when I saw the Zealot ballista wielding minotaur, I was sold.

    1049042543

I also need a few battering rams for the same army. These will do nicely:

    1049042790

I have been known to replace mini’s with better mini’s from time to time, even ones that aren’t painted yet.

Same goes for sci-fi. I’m currently putting together two Traveller combat teams, one human, and one alien, along with indigenous desert world critters. I don’t buy outside of what I need for that scenario, but I buy from many different companies to get the look I want.

Recently Vi talked me into 15mm WWII, but I haven’t bought much… yet. I could still have my magpie moment.

    3. Plans for the future. I want to finish my Masters in Medieval History. I now have funding from Veterans Affairs to do so. I may work on a doctorate when I get to 65, as education is free after that. We’re a long lived bunch, so I will still have plenty of time to teach, or just continue to learn. Knowledge is its own reward.

@oriskany be safe. 140 mph winds can wreak havoc on a Panzer Leader board. 😉

Listening to Rush 2112 at the moment, trying to drown out the country music station playing in the next office.

Most of the above I have seen live in the last year and a half.

    What are the black thingies?

Not sure I dig the Fema set.

    Classic Doctor Who

    Awesome tank what is it?

    As for logging:

Speaking of which I have to sit down somewhere else in the house and wash the ware (not a euphemism).

It finally started to cool down after our second heatwave this year. Definitely not a fan of this kind of weather when it’s too hot to think.

So I’m hoping to get my Ork boys completed.
I also got a few bits and pieces to please to do some light conversion work and add a bit of extra character to the army.

Hint : it’s not an Orky vehicle … but it will be when I’m done with it. However given that I haven’t ever done that kind of conversion I won’t know if I can do what I have in mind.

On an unrelated note I’ve been tinkering with the new-fangled Blazor from Microsoft.
    It’s definitely interesting.
This is the ‘Hello World’ equivalent (the interesting bits are invisible) that I’ve got :
    https://dutchjafo.github.io/
I may update it when I find inspiration&time to program something a bit more interesting.

    > 1. What do you like to watch? Be specific. Do you know why?
The Orville … it’s Star Trek without being so damn preachy.
I do wish they would drop the childish attempts at humour … but then it is an American show and I’ve yet to see any comedy that could compete with British comedy.

    ‘Savage Builds’ (Discovery Channel).
It’s so cool to watch him design and build all sorts of crazy stuff.
Best episode so far was when he build a functioning version of the gun from ‘Fifth Element’.

A few YouTube channels that are interesting :

    – Lindey Beige

    – Laura Kampf

    – Shadiversity

    – Lindsay Ellis

    – Colin Furze

(’cause when you want to watch a crazy maker doing stuff that makes you go WTF … you need to see this guy do his thing)

Also waiting for the next episode of Doctor Who …

@ceppie I agree that some of these experts in documentaries appear to be pretty useless. I guess they’re aiming for less intelligent people who need to be told over and over how something happened ?
I might not know enough to tell if they’re talking nonsense, but the end-less repeated statements (usually before and after commercial breaks) can get pretty annoying when watching anything on Discovery Channel.
isn’t it kind of strange seeing Nussbacher after his conversion ?
He was more interesting when he was doing commentary for TimeCommanders show.

    > 2. When you see a new miniature what do you think? …
I’m not buying a single figure just because it looks cool though.
Unless it’s part of an army/game then it may be the one that gets me to start a collection or buy the game.
It’s why I got the new Ork vehicles when they were released …
    It’s why I got that new not-Ork vehicle …

    > 3. Tell us some things that you want to do in the future…either tomorrow or sometime?

*eh* finish building at least one of my many armies that are part of my big mountain of resin/plastic/metal
The vast majority were part of kickstarters where I went ‘all in’. With things like Blood&Plunder that means I’ve got all factions and every model/feature that was available in the kickstarter.
Why ? Because I can rarely decide which faction to pick and I want to have at least two so I don’t have to rely on someone else having an army …
Of course I do need to find some time and space to build & paint, which at my speed means I probably need to find the secret of eternal life.
I’ve not been successful at stopping myself from backing more projects, because the shiny is sooo tempting  …

    //

I do wonder if anyone else has ever discovered an army/game that made them want to do a bit more than build the models as instructed.
The Orks definitely had that effect on me.
