saw that this afternoon, the card says

The Age of Magic is the next Saga Universe. It will take the players to the worlds of Fantasy, filled with extraordinary creatures, Fantasy races, legendary heroes and where magic is a reality.

Rather than a specific world the Age of Magic offers all the tools to players to transpose Saga into one of the many imaginary worlds that exist in literature, comics, games…

In this book you will find all the rules that make up the ingredients of Fantasy: new troops, classes for Monsters and Creatures, new Heroes, new special rules covering game elements as varied as flying units, war machines or mounted beasts and finally a complete magic system.

Factions represent the main archetypes of fantasy rather than a specific race or culture.

***after this it’s too blurred to glean anymore from, once I have the complete card details I’ll update it here.

Looking forward to this expantion! I think I think some of the old warhammer armies will come of the shelf for me to. As well as some Darklands kindreds perhaps.

Anyone know where the “Bretonnian” cavalry in the third picture are from btw?

This is kind of cool, although I’m not sure if the lack of a proper setting makes for an awkward setting.

Then again it probably is best used to add a bit from actual myth and folklore to ‘historical’ saga as opposed to trying to recreate ‘lord of the rings’ style battles.

I’ve been wanting to try SAGA for ages, but this will likely finally get me to take the plunge.

I think the lack of setting is spot on, I’ll be using Warhammer, Confrontation and maybe even some other random things, if they gave it a specific setting it’s to restrictive especially considering there will be no miniatures for this.

Broad strokes means if you want to go LotR you can, or if you want to try OldHammer skirmish or whatever minis you have then you can use them without them looking weird.

I get that it has its advantages, but at the same time I wonder how newbie friendly such a setting-less system will be.

Is there enough meat within the book/rules to grow something from scratch for those of us not experienced in the creativity/world building required to make such a thing fun ?

I guess it kind of depends on how big the community is going to be and how they’re going to resolve the inevitable IP issues when fans share their version of [insert big name fantasy title]-package for Saga Fantasy.

    Definitely potential for awesome 🙂

There is tons of stuff out there already for various games SAGA included made by players. I doubt IP would be a problem unless they try and sell it

you’re coming at this from the wrong direction @limburger, they’re selling a system. The system is Saga if you enjoy it then you can play it Dark Ages, or Crusades, or Fantasy, I believe a Feudal Japanese setting is also coming.

It’s not a question of will there be enough meat for people to grow something from scratch, almost undoubtably no there won’t be. What is there is for you to take any setting, any miniatures you want and to play with them. So if you really like LotR you can do that, Warhammer? no problem, the Wheel of Time books, sure but it’s up to you to find the models, to represent them.

This is for people who want to use Saga for Fantasy and may very well not a Fantasy ruleset for everyone. If people want something fully formed with the races and world writ large there are a lot of second hand Warhammer Army books on fleabay these days, or if you want to create your own world from scratch you can do it but all that work will be solely on the individual.

I’ll be revisiting Aarklash with my confrontation forces myself, but there is plenty of other things on standby, if I want to see how dark elves fare against Devourers of Vile Tis this is an option now.
