    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • Being ill, sick and bed ridden: is hobby still a thing for you? Maybe even a way to get over the sick days?

And now back to the show.

Pledge: getting better and maybe even do some hobby. But mainly get better

Answer: No. When I am really sick (like I was from Thursday through to Saturday with fever peaking at 39.2°C) I only want to do one thing: sleep. I lay in bed almost 48 hours straight. Accordingly my back now hurts but I feel much better. Spearing you any details but the last 3 days I was barely able to understand anything people told me so reading on forum threads or watching youtube videos was nearly impossible.

    But I’m back now.

    I think.

@sundancer Sorry to hear you have been under the weather. Glad to hear you are better now.
I’ve been sorting out my house for a viewing and am now on a mini-break for the weekend which have both reduced my hobby output to nothing.  I did stop in a bookshop at Hay-on-Wye and get some hobby books so not a total hobby loss.  I got Tony Bath’s Hannibal’s Campaigns and a book on the Swiss Civil War of 1847 which I’d never heard of before.

Pledge:  Think about doing something again later this week. Still not started the PaintComp entry.

Answer: I usually just zone out when I’m really sick. I know I’m feeling a bit better when I reach for my hobby notebook and start reading it or updating some entries.

@sundancer – sorry to hear you’ve had it so rough. Hopefully you’re back on the mend and soon be raring to go again.

I’m a rubbish patient and when I’m ill, I’ll do anything to distract myself from being sick – unless the vertigo has kicked in, that often means I’ll be at my desk, paintbrush in hand, wrapped in dressing gowns (multiple) hot water bottle(s) and slippers. A few years ago, I had to “go under” for an operation to have a cyst removed. My wife dropped me off early in the morning and arranged to pick me up that evening. No sooner had she walked in the front door, than they were phoning her “he’s awake and determined to get up and dressed, so you’d better come and get him”. Sometimes I just point-blank refuse to be ill, and hobby is a great way to pretend I’m not.

@zoidpinhead – my wife and I took a week with the campervan around Wales a few weeks back; starting our trip with a visit to Hay-on-Wye. I loved it there, but didn’t find an awful lot there hobby related.  Nice finds!

Pledge – unlike zoidpinhead, I have started my entry for this month’s painting competition
    (https://www.beastsofwar.com/forums/topic/paintcomp-september-2025/)
After drawing a blank on a theme I chose myself, I think I’ve got something. I quite like it anyway. I’m undecided as to whether I’ve time to dig out my soldering iron and add in some tiny LEDs, or whether just to finish painting and call it a day (if I was ill, I definitely would go the extra mile!). Pledge is to get some more done on my entry (if not getting it finished, get it closer to done).

    Music?
I’m going through my collection of CDs I’ve amassed over the last year or so. I quite like this band. They’re new to me, but already getting repeated plays

    And I called … Laura…

Pledge: back to the commission! Returned from camping, had an awesome week – no rain, no mosquitos(!), lots of campfires, met some cool people and had a few pops. Ride by motorcycle was awesome, good turns and fun corners.

Colds/being sick: since I retired, and the Mrs. works remote, the level of colds and sick have dropped to near-nil. However, when I get sick, like @sundancer I only want one thing: a bed!

In place of music, I’ll leave this as the best video of The Man Cold made, ever.

Get well soon @sundancer and remember… it’s called Man Flu because it’s an illness that targets men which is why women are less affected by it.

Last weeks pledge was to do some hobby and I failed that… unless I count putting the final touches to the first draft of a novel that I may never publish as hobby. It’s the first time I got to the end of the planning stage and I know the whole story now… tricky bit is converting those outlines into prose that someone other than me would want to read.

This weeks pledge is actually do some hobby as I have a week off and no excuse not to.

As for illness, there are two types of illness.

    1) Too ill to go to work.

    2) Too ill to do anything.

    I much prefer type 1.

Glad you’re on the mend Sundancer

Pledge – To stop printing out new things until I have painted at least one of the backlog. Maybe get a project going. Paint a fricking space marine. Order and try out some filler primer spray.

This week’s pledge is to wait for my painting competition model to arrive, then get that painted up.

    • Being ill, sick and bed ridden: is hobby still a thing for you? Maybe even a way to get over the sick days? – If I’m ill whatever energy I have left inevitably goes on to Dad duties, leaving nothing left for hobby.

I used to say that I couldn’t get sick. The worst I got was a bit of not feeling too funky which always happened in weekends.

Now it’s like I need to make sure I have that medicinal syrup at hand as that does appear to help. That and not moving an inch unless needed.

    Anyways …

    New pc is almost assembled.
First test run was a partial success (I forgot to connect the power button and had not connected the case fans).
After connecting the power button the device showed itself as functional enough for now.
Next steps will be to connect the fans, close the case (to hide the messy cables :D) and install an OS.
I think I will not install my graphics card until I’m sure everything else is functional.

More kpop madness … because why not ?

    — edit —
I couldn’t resist the final touches.
Got all the fans spinning and coloured lights active.
I did manage to bend one of the connecting pins, but the case had 3 connectors for coloured lights so that’s not an issue.
Everything else is going to have to wait ’til another day, because I do need food and sleep now.

I hear you @Lazagram . Many years ago I painted a squad(?) of about six space marines in one go. Every other since then has been the odd one here and there, trying out different colour schemes. I’ve not paint a space marine for ages. I’ll have to look through my (not inconsiderately massive) catalogue of .stls and print something out. But that breaks the no-printing rule (which for me is to finish my Blood Bowl orcs team before printing anything else – though I just blew that with my painting competition entry).

@limburger – nice work with the PC. Any photos? (maybe when it’s complete?)

Pledges this week all seem to follow a similar theme: get some damned hobby done! Same here.

    Monday.

I would have said “I’m feeling better” but half way to the office the gods of rain and thunder decided to just dump a bucket of water on me.

So I’m now wet in the office XD

    Coffee to the rescue!

@blinky465 just to finish off the point from last week about my 3D printing output.  It was 2mm (two).  Like these Romans:

    The project is here.

    2mm ? that’s just insane.
I bet you’ve painted their eyes too 😉

@blinky465 I’ve posted a photo on discord, but I will post more once I’m done.
If all goes as planned it will be a big black box 😀

    Wow. Those are crazy!
Many many years ago, I painted some Epic-scale Ogryns (were they 6mm?)
I even managed to paint light reflections on their sunglasses. Neither my eyes or my hands would be up to such a task now 🙂
Those tiny 2mm soldiers are just ridiculous! How are they not just red blobs?
    Incredible!
