    ### Start of shameless copy & paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    Introduce yourselves (New member thread)

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is the unofficial Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

    ### End of shameless copy & paste ###

    Questions:

    • Why does having time of work screw so much with the perception of time? Or is it only me?
    • Have you watched the XLBS yet?
    • Will I be on time next Friday?

And now back to the show.

    Quick answers on my part:

    • I wish I knew… everything become a blur
    • No, but the browser tab is open and waiting for me. As is my coffee
    • Mayhabs. Perby. Dunno.

    Coffee, XLBS and Sunday….

…and I thought the Germans were never late, or was that wizards?

This weekends pledge is to finish painting and assembling some mdf terrain and then get to work assembling some plastic Mantic enforcers I’ll be using for Stargrave and Five Parsecs. I might even paint some models.

Why does having time of work screw so much with the perception of time? Or is it only me?

It happens to me as well. Sometimes I have to look up what day it is.

Have you watched the XLBS yet?

Just finished watching while having my Sunday dinner, beef and yorkshire puddings.

Will I be on time next Friday?

Who knows, stay tuned and find out.

I started work on my Special Edition Marine chap (I don’t recall his name), so I’ll be working on that, though school is going to be starting as of the 7th (ish) so I may have a little less time. I might do some building; I have like 3 Universal Carriers to build and 30 Polish Paras…I am really slow at that stuff. 😛

Why does having time of work screw so much with the perception of time? Or is it only me?

The Event is what’s screwed up my perception of time, if I’m honest. How can a year last 17 years, but also 4 minutes? Madness! The good news is that time is relative anyway, maybe you’re just moving a bit faster than us when you’re not working. 😛

Have you watched the XLBS yet?

I’m still something of a financially struggling student, so no CoG membership for me at the moment. I’ll get back to it eventually…I hope. 😛

Will I be on time next Friday?

What is time, anyway? Everyday is Friday if you want it to be.

This weeks pledge is to finish painting the Skitarii unit I started last week (can’t remember their silly name) and I really must apply the gold leaf to my Egyptians. I had planned to do it Saturday but had to throw all my plans out the window last minute. That will teach me to leave the most important task until last.

Last week I did manage to play some Tainted Grail. Not as much as planned but in hindsight there wasn’t enough time in each evening to do all the hobby I had planned to. It was still good to get back into it.

I did finish reading by book on Ancient Egypt and have put the most interesting bits in my review in my project (https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1660768/).

    • Why does having time of work screw so much with the perception of time? Or is it only me? – Work provides a reference to the days of the week for most people. Once school or work is off its very easy to loose track of the days.
    • Have you watched the XLBS yet? – Watched it this afternoon while doing the ironing.
    • Will I be on time next Friday? – I suspect yes if you are back to your usual work routine.

    See … I knew I missed something.

    1) Why does having time of work screw so much with the perception of time? Or is it only me?
    it’s not just you.
Heck, if it wasn’t for the weekenders I would barely be aware that it was weekend.

I have to actually set the alarm for weekends on a different time just to inform myself that I don’t have to work …
It was even worse when we were working from home.
I definitely need my not-work time to keep me sane.

    2) Have you watched the XLBS yet?
    not yet …
It’s always the same pattern for me.
Friday the regular weekend becomes available and I watch the first few minutes.
Then I realise I have stuff to do (shop for groceries, etc) and I pause it.
Saturday I visit my dad and do his grocery supply run.

I forget that I had paused it and then it’s sunday, which I spend sleeping as I recover from previous day activities.
I watch the first few minutes of XLBS and then realise I haven’t watched the weekender … get distracted by discord or a videogame and … the weekend ends.

    3) Will I be on time next Friday?
probably … it’s not like Germans make the same mistake twice, is it ?

If all goes well I will have the Cyberpunk RED rules as well as the Alien starterset.
Both have been on my wishlist.

I was thinking about buying the beast snagga set that I had seen in the shop last week, but the price reminded me that it wasn’t a good idea. Besides … I’ve got Killteam incoming so probably best not to add to my ork pile before I get even more.
Seeing the picture of the new Ork start collecting box does make me want to buy more orks.

I wish I could focus on one project and finish it.

And to quote Douglas Adams :

Can’t blame anybody for wanting to have all the orks

    New Orks are coming :

The Deff Dredd has been confirmed as the only ‘old’ model in that set.
Everything else is brand spankin’ new …

I think my sense of time was more thrown into confusion by the Weekender being up but no thread than it ever is by work ? No pledge this week in hobby terms anyway. I’ve been struggling with depression again recently and when that comes around hobby becomes less focused on projects. I tend to crack out some 10mm dwarves and add more stands to the Black Dogs of Khaz Modan. It’s a good way to feel like I’m achieving something without the “pressure” of painting at 28mm.

Was meant to have the first post-COVID game session tonight but sadly one of my cats had to go to the vets and we’re all in need of a night of early bed. The poor wee soul has his first ever cone of shame and he’s not a fan. Neither is his brother who has been in hiding since he came home 4 hours ago ?

Why does having time off work screw so much with the perception of time? Or is it only me? It’s my favourite thing about time off work. I hate being controlled and corralled by time

Have you watched the XLBS yet? Yep yep, weekend routine for the last goodness knows how many years now is morning pot of tea on Saturday and Sunday with the Beasts shows.

Will I be on time next Friday? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, we’ll all sit waiting patiently. Unless you want one of us to start one if you aren’t?

Why does having time off work screw so much with the perception of time? Or is it only me?

Not just you. Not so much having time off either. Last week feels like last month. Last month feels like last year. Last year feels like a lifetime ago. Yet the 1990s were only “a few years back” and anything from the year 2000- onwards is still “new”.

Have you watched the XLBS yet?

I sort-of skipped through it. I feel like I’m doing this more and more. Dunno if that’s an indication of my waning interest in this site, the video content, or “the hobby” in general (I don’t think it’s “hobby” since I’m still painting as much and as often and still stick tiny LEDs in bits of terrain).

Will I be on time next Friday?

I pretty much guarantee it. Or it’ll be cancelled. I can’t see a new forum post popping up on Sat/Sun for a while. Sort yourself out will you 😉

In other news – Crooked Dice have absolutely knocked it out of the park:

    E-HFjkxXoAU98zH

I’m off to refresh my wet palette and give these new Pro Acryl paints a workout – they worked beautifully on my wife’s nails; this week, I get to use them for myself!

Speaking of new paints…. We all have seen that Duncan is planning on doing a paint Kickstarter…. and yesterday I saw this:

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hugeminis/acrylic-paint-and-wash-sets

Is there a paint producing company running around convincing creators to do “their own paint line”? oO Do we really need that?

Funnily enough, I thought exactly the same – Duncan has made his name from using Citadel paints to paint really nice looking minis (and, in his academy, more recently, some Army Painter paints too).

If he releases his own paint line, does that render his entire back catalogue of painting guides redundant? After all, unless his new paints behave substantially differently to the ones already in the marketplace, why bother? And if they do, then none of his painting techniques will work with his new paints.

(and then, just as we’re all finding “our” perfect acrylics range, it feels like every other miniature painter on Youtube is moving over to painting with oils).

Maybe he took a page to many out of G’Wullus marketing book “How to maximize money”. I just had to look at his paints again to see if the bottles looked like the ones from the Kickstarter. They don’t. The cap is completely different shape I haven’t seen before.

I saw one of Luke’s Geek Gaming videos the other day in which he recommended an LED table lamp.

Always in the market for spending ever more money on “ohhh shiny” I went and bought one.

Best £16 I’ve spent on hobby for a long time – reallly, really impressed. In the first evening of trying it, I must have painted about 15 pairs of eyes. I hadn’t realised that insufficient light was an issue for night-time painting ’til I got this LED lamp – and suddenly everything just got easier!
