I picked up the core set over a year ago, and the pdf of prelude to woodbury a while back but I’ve yet to actually try the game. It might be the next thing I play solo and I hear a lot of the missions are meant for this (I finished mice and mysticks and Escape Tales: Low Memory this week). Is there an intended narrative order for the products, and if so where can I find it? I believe Prelude to Woodbury is set before the core box.
How does it feel as a solo play campaign? Are the individual games good? Do you feel like you’re working towards a goal across a story arc, or just playing disconnected battles in an arbitrary order?
Prelude to Woodbury
Days Gone Bye
Miles Behind Us
Safety Behind Bars
Made To Suffer
Fear The Hunters
Only Prelude is written exclusively as Solo, some of the books don’t have a single solo-esque scenario others have a few, however solo rules are available for free off the website;
The Walking Dead: All Out War – No One Stands Alone Expansion
The game is fantastic even as solo and the games introduce characters and follow the story arcs of the books, so definitely if you’re looking for a great narrative adventure go for it. If you’ve not read the books you will hit spoilers, but you can read them online if you don’t mind the screen thing
Thanks. Ive not read the books. Just looking to spend more time playing with the stuff I’ve painted instead of just painting ready to play the next thing Ill be too busy prep painting to play. The world is ending and as a result solo is my only current option. I’ve this and Rangers of Shadows Deep on the horizon until I win a Frostgrave set, or KD:M/Aeon Tresspass:Oddyssey turn up mid-late next year.
So does the starter set slip in between woodbury and days gone bye, or is the starter set not near the start?
Looking though my files, I already have no one stands alone. Guess I’ll give it a look early on. Thanks for the heads up.
I’ve just opened the box I got from Ebay 18 months ago and apparently theres no rule book in there. I see the quick start guide free online. Does it miss anything? Can I get a PDF of the main rule book free anywhere? I need that main book, don’t I? It’ll have the actual missions and full rules in it. Why didn’t I notice this sooner? I think I just assumed Mantic put all their rules online for free so didn’t think about it.
the rule book doesn’t have any narrative scenarios, just a basic couple to teach you how to play, so Day’s Gone Bye is the start of the scenarios.
The quick start contains the basic rules but there are a fair amount addition rules in the full set. You can get the rule book for £5 as a digital thing or the Anthology for £30 contains the full rules errata’ed and FAQ along with every published scenario all compiled with some brand new scenarios
Interesting. So the starter set itself is like a quick start set? Kind of a demo rather than a starting point for game/story? I think Im going to try out Prelude and then make a judgement call about if and how to spend. I assume even if I have the Anthology I’ll still need to buy the expansions as I’ll need the cards and minis etc?
I went all in on the kickstarter and played it for a few months before discovering the joys of terrain building. My thoughts on the game are that it is super fun, very random and lead to some cracking stories. very much suited my want to tell a story rather than ROFLStomp my opponent. I played a number of solo games too when the wife was working nights or whatever and thought that it too was just as good. missed the engagement factor from friends though and I did catch myself on occasion changing dice results because it didn’t fit with my ‘it’ll be cool if’ thought processes.
would recommend playing. there is however no need to go balls deep and buy all the models going
@lawnor you’re in the UK right? PM your address and I’ll send you my rulebook, it will light a fire under my arse to finally pick up the anthology myself
