So is there any benefit at all to having a shield with a single handed magical weapon now?
your armor will improve be 1
Yeah, you get the +1 armour save from the shield, but you no longer get the +2 armour save from the combination. And since the parry save you get instead don’t work when the hand weapon is magical (weird rule), there’s no extra benefit from combining a magic hand weapon with a shield.
Imo, this rule is weird. The magical hand weapon should be treated as a normal hand weapon in every way. But I guess GW have their reasons…
I am not 100% sure if so that kinda sounds wrong.
Allright, bear with me on this:
Vampire Lord, with the “Red Fury” (additional attack for every unsaved wound caused) and “Infinite Hatred”(Always re-roll your hits in close combat) Vampire Powers. A “Gambler’s Armour”, a “Potion of Strenght” and and the “Sword of Bloodshed”. And finally, put him on a Zombie Dragon. I know, it’s a hefty 655 points, but unleash it on any infantry or cavalry unit, and you could potentionally cause **19 wounds in 1 turn!!** 😀
Night Goblin warboss would have str 10 and init 5 with the potion and Giant sword….lol
I personally like the empire’s sword of sigsmund. For 45 points it confers +1 strength and always strikes first. Also, after hearing all of these, there’s no way my chaos lord is going to NOT take the chaos runeshield. 50 points and completely negates the powers of all magic or runic weapons.
still for tomb kings nothing beats destoryor of entires i need a better armour combo for 30 points or lower maybe ill check the common ones to see if anything is better than the scarf which lets me transfer wounds to other models on a 4+ on a chariot i transfet to my steeds on a 4+. which means he has less chance of dying and as he deals strength 7 2/4/6 Automatic hits that befit from kingblow as well that is pretty devastationg, alothough you strike last but with the transfering of wounds i don’t take much damdge.
My favourite combo would be Scorpain armour+Spear of Antarnak+Chariot+Sheild+ Golden Eye of Rah-Hut. Okay lets see +1Str,5+ ward save,3+ armour save, Mounted on chariot so i get d3 impact hits could take flaming chariot instead which counts as d6+1 impact hits that are flaming and magical instead of the 5+ ward save. Spear lets me regenerate wounds that i deal to either the model or the unit or the steeds. I would normally deal around 2-3 Wounds.
with scopain armour
if i lose combat
i only take maxium of 1 wound
with battle standard bearer on the board
so if i take 3 wounds that counts as 1 if i lost combat onto of the 1 normally
also i can take no more than half the total wounds than ignore all down to 1
which being in a unit of chariots makes me regnerate the wounds i lose or more wounds and just stand strong a lot. Awesome and with that so many attacks spear attacks +impact+steed
normally i would come with 3 other Chariots. also i charge on now a maxium of 20 nice. instead of 16.
thats probally the strongest a character can go. i can use a sheild for the Destory and a light armour but i only get the choice of attacking or saving with the shild as i have to drop it to attack since i think great weapons are 2 handed if they are not in this edition please let me know
The I10 sword isn’t so much use unless you’re planning to duel other characters – striking first doesn’t really mean anything against R&F. Sword of Swift Slaying suffers similarly.
Stupidity is no longer a Ld test? That’ll make it considerably more a liability – I think you can say goodbye to Dark Elf Cold One Knights/Chariots….
I see the Giant Sword and Sword of Bloodshed as being incredibly common choices among combat Lords. They’re better than most magic weapons in army books.
So stupidity is as bad as Animosity now (missed that)? Ouch! Yeah, I’ve argued that the Cold ones needed to lose their stupidity (or atleast gain an additional attack, just look at the war lion chariots of the HEs.. A bit OoT) in 7th ed, now they’re even worse (compair them to the white lion war lion chariots).
Haha Darrel is getting into the fluff. SUCH IS THE POWER OF 8TH EDITION!
Is Van Horstman’s Speculum still in the list :-
“BWAHAHA I have the Giant Blade and drink my Potion of Strength”
“OK now swap profiles”
“AUGHHHHHHHHH”
🙂
I’m a new player to Warhammer, yet to actually play a game. What is the general consensus on taking a magic weapon from the Warhammer book that says it is a sword (sword of swift slaying in this case) but modeling it as an axe on my character? Is this allowed? Same thing with taking talismans, could I say this jewel on his armour is the amulet?
its fine as long as you say what they have. I mean there are no models with a giant blade or anything like that so don’t worry about it.
and with amulets you can say it under his shirt or in his pack.
Cool video. I am a big fan of the new magic items 🙂
Gold Sigil Sword: Is it 15 points or 10 points? Warren says 15 and Darrel says 10 (apologies for any mispelling of names). I think it’s a mediocre item, to be honest. It’s okay if you only have 15 points left, but it isn’t Always Strikes First, but I10 (key difference). Ah, 15, Warren corrected Darrel. I still think I’d take something else: 5 points sounds fair for it though. 10 at a push.
Tormentor Sword: Sounds good to me, however, if somethings in combat and takes a wound from it, then chances are, they’ll be dead soon anyhow (perhaps unless it’s an Ogre character) and it doesn’t affect basic troops… Still, at 5 points, it means you can hit Ethereal creatures (something all too often overlooked!).
Sword of Swift Slaying: This weapon is FAR better than the Sigil sword, in my opinion, especially if you already have a high initiative. It allows you to strike at the same time (or, if you have higher initiative, at the same time) as someone with ASF and re-roll against those that don’t. 25 points is fair, although 20 points seems a little closer to the mark. P.S. They are cats, not dogs and special weapons only affect the wielder, unless otherwise stated.
Giant Blade: +3 strength is always nice, unless you’re strength 8 or higher 😀 It’s the same cost as the 6th edition High Elf Blade of Gold, with the same rules, so it should be correctly price. Having said that, the Dwarf Steam Drill is mundane, always strikes last, but allows re-rolls for miners appearing and gives +3S for 25 points. I think 50 points would be better and used more often. Currently, you HAVE to have a lord take it, but it seems like something a weak goblin hero should have.
Sword of Bloodstrength: Much better for the points cost. More attacks means more potential wounds and even a skink with reduced stats can still wound anything on a one, so you have half a chance (literally) more of wounding something (as a minimum) with this item, EVERY round. I think it’s well worth it’s points and is likely to appear in a lot of my armies (especially Chaos 😀 ).
Isn’t it considered common courtesy or at least sportsman like to divulge what magic items your army is fielding? Or does no one actually do that?
I have a question (hope someone sees this, and that it’s not too late..). Does the giant blade count as a great weapon? I know it doesn’t say anything in the rule book, and therefore should count as a hand weapon. But it just sounds strange! Maybe it’s like Clouds sword. It’s sooo huge that physics just gave up on it.
