GW Reveal All For New Edition Of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
May 26, 2025 by brennon
Games Workshop revealed all at the end of last week regarding the new edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. A brand new boxed set is on the way alongside tweaked and updated rules for the game, new books and more.
The Dropsite Preview // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
At the core of the new edition is the new boxed set for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy, Age of Darkness: Saturnine.
Age Of Darkness: Saturnine // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
This set forms the basis for the new edition, with a range of new plastic miniatures to act as the starting point for a new army or perhaps reinforcements for an existing one. A couple of characters lead the way with the towering Saturnine Praetor leading the way.
Saturnine Praetor // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
This absolute beast of a miniature could end up leading the way for your Salamander army, but could easily slot into all manner of Traitor or Loyalist armies during The Horus Heresy. The new lore built around the Saturnine armour used during this period is that Vulkan, Primarch of the Salamanders, refined the process of creating it and offered it to all of the Legions. Unfortunately, that means that the villains of the piece now have access to swanky new kit!
Set against the Saturnine Praetor (or perhaps alongside him), we have the new Centurion in MKII Power Armour. As mentioned, whilst this has been labelled as a Centurion, there's no reason this couldn't be used as all manner of different leader figures amongst Horus Heresy armies.

This also introduces more of the MKII Power Armour, which was an older pattern of armour that was beginning to be filtered out during the time of the Dropsite Massacre. Still, some Legions were big fans of the armour, and so it was still used extensively.
MKII Power Armour Legionaries
As well as the MKII armour being used by the characters in the set, you will also get a bunch of Legionaries and Legionary Veterans in the same pattern of armour.

There are a lot of these Space Marines in the box, which can be armed with a variety of different weapons. You can go for classic boltguns or ramp things up and throw some new special weapons into the mix as well. Maybe you prefer the style of these Disintegrator Weapons?
Legionary Veterans with Disintegrator Weapons // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
As with all of the plastic kits for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy, they can be kitbashed and converted very easily. This means that if you want MKII arms and heads but MKII legs and bodies, you could easily do that. The various Legions often tended to mix and match their armour as The Horus Heresy went on, scavenging what they could from different battles and fallen Battle Brothers.
Big Guns & Big Shoulders
As well as the core of your force being made up of the Legionaries, you'll also find some special miniatures in the boxed set. Leading the way, we have the clanking form of the Saturnine Dreadnought, which is going to be one hell of a foe to shift should it stomp into view.

The Saturnine Dreadnought can be armed with fearsome plasma weaponry and such turning it into a gun platform. The Saturnine look, something of a meme that grew and grew on the internet, also carries through into the design of the new Terminators.
Saturnine Terminators // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
Protected by their powerful shield generators, the Saturnine Terminators aren't going to be easy to shift. They can also be armed with some fearsome plasma weaponry but you can also rock fists for just punching your way through the enemy ranks.
Levelling its guns to blow all of this to pieces, you also have access to the Araknae Quad Accelerator Platform. This is the beginning of what would become the Tarantula in Warhammer 40,000 but this is on a whole other scale.

All of these miniatures are looking rather spiffing and it's neat to see the Saturnine-style armour making this a fun new set for those who already have expansive armies. The Saturnine boxed set feels like it will be a hot set for those seeking to get involved with the new edition of the game, as it also comes with the rules and more to get you started.

As this is a new edition, this also means that there are new books on the way with new rules that you'll have to get your head around. You can find out more about the new edition, which books you need to buy and more HERE.

The “Araknae Quad Accelerator Platform” (I call it BIG DAKKA) looks nice but the rest isn’t for me.
Even for GW, this looks “overdone”.
The eggie boys are back! Tbh I think they look daft with those enhanced shoulder pads. Quite like the MK II power armour lads, but a bit more variation in their poses would have been good. Like Sundancer, the best part of this for me is the turret.
Those terminators look a bit like the aliens from ‘Fifth Element” film
I actually really like them. Prefer the “new” style Mk2 as they are closer to the (Forge World) originals than the reworked MK3 with the Pickelhaube helmets.
And, fully accepting i am in the minority, really like the Saturine Terminators. Would have prefered if they had Standard Stormbolters and power fists as an option but do understand GW leaning into the heavy mech suit thing.
However, when ever GW says “And the existing books are a fantastic source of lore” immediately translates to me as: “everything is being replaced ruleswise but please still buy them till this comes out.” Even before they reintroduced the mental stats…
Models are nice. But I really don’t care about Heresy.
that’s Heresy … quick burn the traitor!
😉
Brother, get the Flamer.
The HEAVY Flamer
Clearly GW have seen the return of Warmachine and figured “We’ll show these mokes what big shouldepads REALLY look like” 😀
