Weekender: Boot Camps, Salute Winners & Checking Out Emergence Event
May 2, 2015 by warzan
Welcome back to The Weekender that took a bit of a hiatus last week due to our Salute coverage which was awesome but very tiring!
Boot Camps & Job Finding
It's all hands to the pump already as we're working on the terrain for the Bolt Action Boot Camp in the coming weeks AND planning the next one which will be themed around Infinity!
We've also been testing out the Tabletop Job Finder (still in development) as our way of trying to connect people together in this crazy world of ours.
Home Raiders!
As you might have noticed by the massive banner across the top of the website Home Raiders from Vesper-On Games is coming to Kickstarter soon too and we have a chat about the game and the awesome prize that awaits a lucky gamer.
Salute 2015
We can't of course not mention Salute and we'll be going through some of our favourite bits of the day (and the Backstager meet up!)
If you want to catch up...
A big thank you to all of our helpers over the weekend! We also have a whole host of prizes to announce so watch out for that in the show.
Emergence Event
We also sit down with Dawn & Gianna to talk about the Emergence Event board game from Megacon for 2-4 players. It's quite a bit of fun!
Have a great weekend!

Happy Weekend!!!
I needed a really good distraction and here it is, thankyou BoW team.
Hi all ‘HAPPY WEEKEND’
Hi Dawn how u doing?
Hi Shaun! Doing well, thanks. Had a lovely visit with the BoW crew. 🙂
Wish you guys would’ve given us more advance notice for the boot camp 🙁
How is this. Around september they gonna do a bootcamp witj
h prodos. So either warzone or AvP
Great weekender guys but I’m not loving the faction choices for the Infinity boot camp.
(And that’s the last I’m going to say on the subject as I don’t want to start another Bolt Action incident. Lol )
Happy Saturday,
The live blogging is great i could check your updates while waiting in the queue. hope to see a lot more of it.
Bumper episode today. Couldn’t manage the Backstger meet up unfortunately, but did manage to say hi to Lloyd at Salute. Always good to chat with a fellow DUST player.
You are onto a winner with these Boot Camps. Would love to attend one, but unlikely I would get an all weekend pass from the wife with the age of our three little ones. Then again I did get a Salute pass which was unexpected, so never say never….
Never has the date of a boot camp made me more depressed 🙁 Infinity bootcamp with Carlos and I’ll be in Russia. Looking forward to the footage guys.
Woooooot….Weekender!!!!! A quick hello to all as I am working. After shift I plan to spend it watching the beautiful beasts of war hosts. Yes I mean you Warren ( @warzan )
Lol 😉
happy weekend. Can you be more precise for the bootcamp than just end of june ? like the actual dates 🙂
Pretty sure I said them ( had them on the notes so sorry if I didn’t! Lol)
26th, 27th, 28th
I gotta admit, I was **slightly** . . . I don’t want to say disappointed . . . but **slightly** let down to see that the original Waterloo idea for the June Bootcamp didn’t ramp up enough interest. Then again, with Bolt Action in May, I guess it wouldn’t make sense to have two historical bootcamps in a row. 😀 Full steam ahead for Infinity bootcamp!
might have said it, then i missed it. But those are the dates I wanted to hear 🙂
Great to have the weekender back! Loved the live blog but weekend not the same without the weekender, my daughter likes to get me up super early on Saturday and Sunday and watching you guys takes the edge off.
How about a home raiders meta game where they invade a war games table. 1 turn warmachine, one turn home raiders. They could use the jacks as cover, then next turn you may be confused when you find your warcaster isn’t where you left him
Happy weekend, wish I wasn’t working but that’s life. Can’t believe Salute was only a week ago
The Mordenburg under the toilet clamp thingy reminds me of the sewer cell from … one of the Iain M Banks books (some Culture-vulture will be able to tell me which one).
A nice (really nasty) stuff.
* A nice (really nasty) touch.
Send coffee.
@somegeezer – it was the first of the Culture books – Consider Phlebas. Nasty…
Home raiders will be a kickstarter to support, it is a brilliant concept!
The Dust faction is way too strong in my home and needs to be sucked back to its original planet. 😉
Happy weekend – great seeing you there (and Friday evening – just too bad they close the pub so early )
The Fort George table was my highlight. Ron even has his own coffee table book –

ok 50 min to wrap up and go top work, quiet in house please!
I am looking forward to the Blackpool Pleasure Beach Live Blog….
Happy weekend… a bumper weekender. Last weekend was epic with the meet up and a few drinks I kinda had a very similar feeling to @warzan last Saturday. .lol However I survived and Salute was great and good to see all you guys that made it to our table:-)
Just getting ramped up for the Bolt Action Bootcamp next:-)
Great video, congrats to all the prize winners too!
That blackpool day out looked epic.
Happy post Salute Saturday! Good to meet you briefly (on the day).
FYI Justin, your trip to Salute broke your furthest South record… just! (Southend pier, 51.52N; Excel, 51.50N)
I hop you have news of EU distribution of Emergence Event. At present it’s only available direct from Megacon (US) for $50… with $62 postage !!!
Gooooood Morning Beasts of War and all us acolytes. Sitting down to the Weekender and still on a high from last weeks Salute 😀 . My hobby space is covered in half built goodies and I cannot wait to get back to them after watching another cracking episode on a lovely Saturday morning.
thanks for the Salute coverage, i couldnt be there so really appreciated your hard work guys 🙂
weekender.. yeeeeey! Morning BoW 🙂 its raining hehre in Poland second day in a row so its perfect day starter.. weekender.. 😀 and this Home Raiders from vesper-on … oh man.. @warzan im getting excited too.. can’t wait for KS. Its reminding me about Mary Northons The Borrowers..
It was great to meet Redben (?) at Salute when he dropped by the Daisho participation game.
Tried to get close to Hoth but there was a constant wall of fans.
Yes, you had that dubious distinction lol.
Sam burned Justin good..but oh wait what is this? Justin counters with the lightning comeback quip lol brilliant stuff gentlemen.
Are the winners of the Carnevale Bundle known?
Squeeeee’d a little too hard at my mention! 😀 Thank YOU guys so much for such an amazing experience.
I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard at such a happy face, @warzan, you TOTALLY suit rollercoasters. So bloody cute! ;D
@warzan Please invite her to be in the tale of gamers for WarmaHordes that John and Justin are working on. That would be amazing! Plus is always good to have pressure for painting your minis ( at least I NEED IT 😛 ).
@bintykins, are you feeling lost that it’s over, like we are? It was so much fun working together. We definitely have to so it again. 🙂 We would love help at the end of July at Gen Con- hint hint…
Still regretting not getting on the tube n going to salute (but the Mrs. had me cleaning the flat so it really was a no no!) Next year for sure.
At 42:45 – I can picture @dignity ‘s mom showing up to “cleanse” his house. M9 flamethrower on her back, helmet and gas mask on . . . Check the body armor and kick down the front door. “CLEAR!” First jet of flame roars into the house . . .
WWWWHHHOOOOOOSSSH!
😀
It was really nice to see you at Salute guys. Amazing job with the Star Wars table!!!
in case you were under a ‘wave’ when we chatted – don’t forget to have a look at Napoleon-at-War
Those Foregound Middle East buildings will look great as Mexican style buildings for Wild West Exodus, just think of the buildings in the Mexican village from the Magnificent Seven film.
Excellent weekender, great coverage from salute, thanks
Really looking forward to the Home Raiders Kickstarter. Will be curious to see the cost of entry, considering the game’s style. I kind of want it all but not at Carnevale prices. 🙂
Nice weekender!
But are you guys for real? 1 guy won 50 Hawk Avangers?
That’s just sick! I understond it be 1 avangers for 50 people on the live blog
I think it was just one ship, given to one person, of which 50 are being made in total.
Not 50 ships given away as prizes.
true the other 49 was sold by warhawk at salute
Been looking forward to this all day. And not just to find out if I won any of the salute prizes.
Great to have the weekender back.
Psyched about the home raiders kickstarter. First thing my partner has ever shown an interest in playing with me, and would make a great light game for example for my D&D group on days when people can’t make it.
Is there a document or article that tells you more about the bootcamps and everything they include?
I realize its mentioned in the weekend but it would be useful to have a reference.
Whoohoo!!! Jammie dance!!
Love it all and Salute was a blast
Quite disappointed in the selection for the bootcamp.
4 Choices spead over 3 faction? Isn’t that is a bit thin?
Yeah. I said a similar thing earlier. The starter choices are lacking and even though I’m more than probably wrong, there doesn’t seem to be a recent sculpt among them and just looks like old models that need using up.
yup all old models. many of those have been collecting dust around my house for years.
And yes kinda weird/sad the newer models are not included
Already register in TTJF 😀 , i would add the linkedin widget and videogame developer as and additiona category.
About the Infinity Bootcamp… probably a few already asked this question… but why not having all the other factions ? Or at least see first which ones are the most popular. You already know from the Dropzone Commander Bootcamp that people are willing to pay extra for a specific faction ( rebels was in that case ) if is needed.
Home Raiders is a must have! I will hold my money for that one! Can we use real pets in it ? Not as models, they have a high deviation level from whatever we want them to do… but more as event cards “Greco’s Smash&Chew!” Btw… they are… chewable, right ?
really enjoy the weekenders.
great show everyone the game looks interesting.
Warren……your shirt is messing with my Eyessssss
Thanks for another great show gang. Good to see the “Colonies” representin’. Thanks too for the Salute coverage, great job by all involved, yes Justin also! Coverage was not my cup of tea though. Just too much to hunt through to find my particular area of interest, and would have liked to see more about the games that were put on and the tables played on. Maybe I just didn’t find it or look in the right place. Maybe I just don’t have the hang of this live blog stuff, after all, I am old! But all the same thanks gang. And Warren, it has been amazing to watch the evolution of the Beasts over the last couple years, great work by all. Fun to watch and can’t wait to see what’s to come. Just don’t forget where you came from. Thanks again!
The table top job finder is a great idea, thanks for putting the effort in for that guys.
The coverage was super and I hope next time I can go and see the lads and ladies at Salute.
Good to have you back guys
The Salute coverage was fabulous; I think the live blogging works really well. My one suggestion is to try to ask the various people you’re interviewing for something odd/interesting/unique. Doesn’t have to be a ‘spill the beans’ moment, but there were quite a few ‘this is X, we brought Y to Salute’ posts. It would have been nice to have asked them even just one more follow up question: what’s different about this game from the others; where did the inspiration come for this piece of work… something personal.
The longer interviews were great, particularly the video ones. The picture articles would have benefited from a little titbit of information.
What else? The tabletop job finder is a brilliant idea – and something I think you’re in a really good position to be able to do well.
I’ve said this in one of the 3000+ comments on the live blog, but my highlight at Salute was meeting people. Meeting people I’ve bumped into at previous conventions (including one in Barcelona), meeting designers/artists/writers etc. who are so enthusiastic about their work, meeting other gamers – including at the backstager meetup.
It gives you renewed faith in humanity to find so many nice, interesting, cool (okay, nerdy) people coming together and creating things.
Woah I won!! Bushido box set too, I couldn’t be happier!! Thanks a bunch guys for the coverage of salute and this weekend was fantastic as always.
Well, good to see the weekender back 🙂 I will just repeat myself about the live coverage of Salute: great job 🙂
The idea about the jobfinder site is something much needed I believe since I have never saw ads where companies are looking for sculptors etc. I believe that if you were “in the system” you knew that someone was looking for specialists.
btw. Cool pics from Blackpool
Blimey! Beer money being one of the first topics on the agenda??? that must’ve been some kinda beer money! lolz
One of my biggest regrets in life is that I never got in to “Call of Cthulu” when I had the chance several years ago. The book belonged to an old friend and it was published by Games Workshop so I’m guessing they probably did the miniatures range for it, but GW have probably sold the rights to it a fair old while ago now considering they just do Warhammer Fantasy and 40K and not much else now. There is if course The Lord of the Rings / Hobbit game which is their other major undertaking but back in the day there were so many other games or systems they used to support, probably well before I got involved with them circa early-ish 90’s. I think I came across a copy of Cthulu published by someone else a few years ago too and I curse my self for not snapping up a copy at the time. Forgive me while I get all misty eyed….. It would be great to think there’s still something of this still out there. (Prize for coolest tee-shirt this week definitely goes to Dawn…. The guys really aren’t trying, at all! lolz
Lol! Thanks @adamzeppelin! I couldn’t resist the Star Wars Cool Kids yearbook! 😉
lolz……..I bet with Lord Vader there, you were expecting him to come out with some kinda David Prowse type strong Lancashire or Yorkshire accent weren’t you; something very English or UK? lolz (I can’t remember where David Prowse’s accent actually comes from but it’s certainly nothing like James Earl Jones’s ultimate booming Vader voice. Hahaha)
What the heck’s Blackpool got to do with Chas’n’Dave??? I’m a big Chas’n’Dave fan and I’m pretty sure they’ve got nothing to do with Blackpool????
(holiday snaps?? I’m off! )Lolz (Big ol Dungeons and Dragons cartoon show fan here too!)
@adamzeppelin, I couldn’t believe he spoke at all! It was classic! But you’re right, I can’t lie- I fully expected him to sound English. Lol 😀
OMG! I don’t believeeeeeeeeeee it!
I actually won something.on BoW!
And heard Warren say my name out loud on the Weekender!
My life is now complete!
