Pre-Order Armies Of The Soviet Union For Bolt Action
August 4, 2025 by brennon
Warlord Games are taking pre-orders for the next book to be introduced to the Third Edition of Bolt Action, their World War II wargame. Armies of the Soviet Union can be snapped up right now alongside an exclusive miniature and a couple of Starter Army options.
Armies of the Soviet Union - Third Edition // Bolt Action
This new book comes with everything you need to run your Soviet forces in games of Bolt Action, plus a guide to collecting, modelling and painting your armies across the breadth of World War II. You'll find everything you need to cover your infantry, artillery and vehicles alongside your national special rules. This also means historical background for the Soviet Union, full-colour illustrations and photography that can act as hobby inspiration.
This pre-order from Warlord Games also comes with a special miniature in the form of Olga Kovalyova.
Olga Kovalyova (Front) // Bolt Action
She was one of the female factory workers who took up arms during the Battle of Stalingrad. She is shown here in her work attire with a submachine gun at the ready and a flag raised, inspiring her comrades to feats of valour.
Olga Kovalyova (Rear) // Bolt Action
Wojciech Flis sculpted the new miniature, and Andrés Amián has painted it. It's great to see a character that you wouldn't normally see pop up as the limited edition option for the book pre-order. Maybe this could inspire you to go down the route of a Soviet army packed out with civilians who have taken up arms?
Starter Army Options
As well as the new Armies of the Soviet Union book, you can also get your hands on two Starter Army options, which cover the early period of World War II and the later one.
Soviet Army 1941-43 Starter Army // Bolt Action
Red Star Rising features an army that would have been on the battlefield between 1941 and 1943. It comes with loads of plastic Soviet Infantry as well as Warlord Resin Platoon Commanders. You also get your Medium Machine Gun Teams, Medium Mortar Teams, a T34/76 Medium Tank and an impressive Katyusha Multiple Rocket Launcher. You will also get all of your bases, decals, and vehicle damage markers for your Soviets.
If you'd prefer to fight out the later period of World War II, then you can get Forward to Berlin!
Soviet Army 1943-45 Starter Army // Bolt Action
This set covers 1943 to 1945 and features plenty of your plastic Soviet Infantry as well as Medium Machine Gun Teams, a Medium Mortar Team, a plastic T34/85 Medium Tank, a plastic Katyusha Multiple Rocket Launcher and then a metal ZiS-3 76mm Divisional Gun. Again, you'll get all of your bases, tokens and such that you'll need to run the army.
I sense that there might be a very eager member of the team (Shay) who is probably going to end up spending some money on Soviets (you hear that, Shay?).
Are you going to be using the Soviet Union during your games of Bolt Action Third Edition?

very cool special mini
I like the special mini. I don’t collect Soviets but she would also work for VBCW. I would need to see if the gun was right for 1938, but that’s an easy fix.
Not sure what those Katyushas should be doing that close to the frontline, but it’s cool to see new plastic kits.
Missed opportunity to call them KatyuShays 😉
Can’t tell if it is sculpts or paint jobs but some of those faces are…yikes
