Aventine Miniatures have eight new packs available for early Byzantine armies, there are four musicians enough, as Keith says, to start your own band. The other packs are a bevvy of slingers. Once again these are great looking sculpts from Aventine and while they're sculpted for the early Byzantine army you could easily use these in some of the late Roman or even Romano-British forces.

Aventine Miniatures Byzantine Slingers

Aventine have been ramping up the releases for Byzantine armies recently with cavalry and artillery currently being worked on by Adam. After the earlier heavy spear infantry units at the start of the month they have now added slingers to the range. These packs of four unarmoured slingers have different heads which you can mix and match for variety or keep them split by type, the musicians have similar styles of headwear.

If you plan on campaigning in the east the Phygrian hats look great for it, but there are also felt hats, helms or bare headed packs available, with the felt and helmed heads being particularly good if you want to press-gang some of these into Romano-British service. Slingers are always a threat on the battlefield and no ancient army worth it's salt should be on the field without some of these harassing troops.

The sculpts from Aventine are always worthwhile, good clean details without being overly fussy makes them very easy to paint up, and I'm loving the range from them for their expanding Byzantine armies. I definitely recommend anyone who is interested in starting an army for the Last Roman check them out.

There's a reason Justinian was called the Great

"Slingers are always a threat on the battlefield and no ancient army worth it's salt should be on the field without some of these harassing troops."
