King John Supplement Coming To The Barons’ War Wargame

December 19, 2025 by brennon

Wargames Atlantic has been chatting about the next steps for the new edition of The Barons' War, their Medieval wargame by Andy Hobday. The next supplement in the works covers the chaotic period of King John’s reign.

King John Sourcebook - The Barons War

King John Sourcebook // The Barons' War

This book will cover the full, chaotic reign of King John that ran from 1199 through to 1216. As you might know from your history, this period is packed with intrigue, betrayal, shifting loyalties and conflict, perfect for wargaming. Within the book, you'll find more for Feudal European retinues featuring both the king's allies and his rivals.

  • Feudal European
  • Flemish
  • Poitevin
  • Mercenary
  • Scottish
  • Welsh
  • Outlaws (yes!)

This also acts as a background book for the period, with a look at Medieval England and Europe at large during King John's reign. Alongside all of that information, you'll also find thirteen scenarios that allow you to refight some of the key moments from his rule.

You'll also be able to meet major characters like William Marshal, Prince Louis, Robert FitzWalker, Archbishop Stephen Langton and of course, King John himself. All of these characters will feature dedicated rules for you to use alongside your own, invented heroes and villains.

More Plastic Medieval Miniatures

In addition to the new supplement, Wargames Atlantic also teased brand-new plastic kits coming for The Barons' War.

From the looks of it, we're going to get Foot and Mounted Command, Militant Monks, Outlaws, the Welsh, Scots and more. Outremer is also going to be supported with the Military Orders, both Foot and Mounted, alongside something Unarmoured and Armoured, perhaps for the other side of this clash.

This is going to end up with 2026 being a bumper year for those diving into The Barons' War and Medieval wargaming in general.
