Mogsymakes Crafts New Dark Age Viking & Saxon Banners
February 18, 2026 by brennon
James Morris of Mogsymakes has crafted their own banners for use with your Viking and Saxon forces in your Dark Age wargames like Midgard Heroic Battles. They are available right now for you to download and add to your own warbands.

Morris has painted their own banners and then scanned them, making them now commercially available for you to use with your own armies. The idea is that these banners are hand-painted and different from the more modern, computer-assisted designs that you might see out there on the market.
Inspiration has been taken from manuscript illustration, period metalwork and the Bayeux tapestry. All of the designs are hand-drawn so that they have that handmade feel that would fit an Early Medieval army.

There are three sets for you to choose from over on Wargame Vault. You have Saxon Banners, Saxon or Viking Banners and Viking Longship Banners. Plenty of different ways for you to add some character to your force, be they raiding or defending against a raid!

As a fun fact, these banners will appear in the forthcoming Chronicles of Midgard supplement for Midgard Heroic Battles. They have been designed for From Athelney to Ethandun, a historical campaign included in the book that features Alfred the Great going up against Guthrie and the Vikings. The banners should be suitable for the period from 700 through to 1066.

They look great and I particularly enjoy the hand-drawn, hand-painted look to the banners. I think it really helps to sell that period and make them feel more in tune with the miniatures. If you'd like to learn more, you can check out Mogsymakes talking all about them in the video below...
