Watch It Played Take On The Basics Of D&D Attack Wing
August 12, 2014 by brennon
Watch It Played's Rodney Smith builds my hype-o-metre just that little bit more with a basic gameplay overview of Dungeons & Dragons: Attack Wing in the video above. He shows off the miniatures themselves and talks about the basic movement and attack mechanics...
The miniature quality looks very solid and the paint jobs aren't too bad on the dragons either. I think the Copper Dragon looks the most out of place beside the other two and the Blue Dragon is certainly not as well done as the Red Dragon but they all look very neat. Very good for WizKids at any rate! Might have to touch a few things up here and there however.
The game looks very nifty and I can't wait to get my hands on it. It should be floating around at Gen Con so hopefully one of our team will get a go with it and let me know how it plays first hand!
Are Dragons for you?

Hm, two years ago that idea would have been awesom, one year ago, I would have gave it a try. But now, playing X-Wing for quite some time, it looks just like a clone to me.
That is a little like saying 40K is a WHFB clone.
Just because WhizzKidz and FFG are different companies doesn’t stop some playing both SWXW and STAW
The flightpath game system is licensed. There is no real reason why it should not be used for a fantasy setting.
It is, but not everyone likes starwars. Go figure.
I have several friends who won’t play x-wing with me, but if I’d put this on the table they’d give it a go.
I’m not to fond of the mini’s so far and, yeah, allready playing x-wing it’s to much of the same thing. I like the ground unit concept though
Looks quite good and they have timed it quite well with the hobbit films with a sodding great Dragon in them.
and The Dragon themed D&D 5th Edition releases
This is a joke right? I know its not april fools day, but this has to be a joke!
Hi Stonewall.
Am guessing you are new to BoW
The D&D Attack Wing has been anticipated in previous Breaking News posts
Not sure why you think it has to be a joke.
Dragons! I mean you have to be excited for Dragons?! Right?
Anyone? Mom? Dad?
just me then
OMG I’m turning into Sips
Hell yeah – dragons for the win. Oh, and mahogany doors, mahogany doors, mahogany doors, mahogany doors…
…mahogany doors.
Dragons or Star Wars? Or Dragons AND Star Wars? Either way its win win win. This looks like amazing covered in awesome sauce.
Not sure im u
R this game, but have to say it will be a great addition to those liking the D&D fantasy setting, although I have to say that the release of this has been DRAGON on for ages. 😉 I only hope the models are better that attack wing though, as I hear its a better game than X wing, but some of the models are fugly for star trek imho. Also the need to buy different ships just for the pilots/cards sucks the fun out of collecting one of these games tbh. Just wished they did a card only deck and the ships seperately, as it can scale the price quite high and the range isnt finished yet. Although I hear ebay is your friend if you want to get into these games. 🙂
Not sure I would say Star Trek AT is better than X-Wing Michael.
IMHO they play differently despite the shared mechanisms.
Not being a competitive player I don’t worry about the captains too much.
I am getting the Federation faction for my daughter and some Dominion for myself with a few Borg thrown in just because.
The starter comes with Picard and have recently got the Enterprise for Kirk.
Many good crew members and other captains come with these two alone so we are happy.
Fwiw we have played a couple of training scenarios to finally decide who is the best captain. Kirk or Picard? ATM they are tied (because they like that sort of thing) but they are also level in the test series.
As for the quality of the ships, they have been slowly improving. Except the Enterprise was worse than the earlier models. Some flash on the hull and really crude seam lines all over.
The engines are not aligned correctly and overall the QC is abysmal.
TBH I have enough hobby stuff backed up to last me until Gabriel trumps so a repaint is very low on my list of things to do. It is nice just to be able to buy a pack every now and again and stick it on the table straight out of the box.
They also look fun enough lined up on a shelf.
Because my LFGS provides tables for play and I want them to remain open, I don’t mind paying full retail price
The down side is I would love the Dragon AT but don’t wish to commit myself to yet another collectable game. Maybe when my Dominion fleet has built up a bit more.
*Im not sure im up for this game….. damn spell checker…. oh no, wait, it was me that was stupid! Hehe 🙂
