Pick Up Wiglaf Miniatures 18mm Dark Age Legends & Luminaries
September 16, 2025 by brennon
Wiglaf Miniatures' The Age of Penda range expands this week with some new 18mm Dark Age characters for you to use in your tabletop battles. Sculpted by Mark Copplestone, you can now get your hands on the Legends & Luminaries set.
Legends & Luminaries // Wiglaf Miniatures
This new set of figures comes with a range of well-known and lesser-known characters from the period. Some major figures within the set include Arthur the Many-Faced Hero, Beowulf the Dragon Slayer and Wiglaf (for whom Wiglaf Miniatures was named!).
This means that you can get together some great heroes to lead the likes of the Vendels, Welsh and Saxons on the battlefield if you like. I particularly like the Romano-British-style helm for Arthur, which fits with the more historically "accurate" character from the legends.

As well as the three main legendary leaders, you also get The Harpole Lady, whom I had to do some research about. This refers to the Harpole Treasure, which was an Anglo-Saxon excavation which featured a woman of high status, possibly within the early Christian church, who was prepared in a bed burial alongside a necklace that was "the most ornate of its kind ever found". That has even been represented on the 18mm figure.
The rest of the set would be good for a mixture of different scenarios. You have a Chastising Celtic Saint, a Hooded Monk and then finally, a Performing Bard. The bard held significant status and power within society at this time and woe betide anyone who thought of raising their sword at one! You were likely to be cursed and meet an untimely end.
This gives you a brand new set of 18mm metal figures for you to slot into the rest of your collection. You can see Gerry's unboxing and review of some of the other figures from the range below...
