Of all the various locations you might explore in Dungeons & Dragons, few are as evocative as Waterdeep. Now, WizKids are setting out to explore this setting further with a new board game and a trilogy of sets for Dungeons and Dragons: Dice Masters.

Dungeon of the Mad Mage

First, it is time to go dungeon delving as Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage Adventure System Board Game gets released into North American stores.

This board game is the newest instalment in the Dungeons & Dragons Adventure System series of board games, and allows you take on the role of heroes venturing through the Yawning Portal to the Undermountain to take on the questionably-sane wizard Halastar Blackcloak in his lair.

The game can be combined with others in the Adventure System series, allowing you to bring your characters up to level four, add in new Environment and Bane / Boon cards, as well as adding plenty of other dangers for you to overcome.

This board game, based on the adventure of the same name, looks like a cool way in which to re-experience both that story and the setting of Waterdeep, or even a way in which to come to it for the first time.

You can find the board game on WizKid's site.

Dice Rolling Dungeon Masters

As well as the board game, three new sets based on Waterdeep are being added to Dungeons & Dragons: Dice Masters.

These sets will include Trouble in Waterdeep, a two-player campaign box to give you a place to get started, as well as the team packs Adventures in Waterdeep and The Zhentarim Team Pack.

These will include characters both old and new, bringing the rich lore surrounding Waterdeep to this popular dice game.

I will admit, Dice Masters is not a game that has ever caught my interest before. However, I am at heart a collector and more opportunities to experience Dungeons & Dragons are always welcome in my book.

Do you have fond memories of adventures in Waterdeep?
