About the Project

The Protectorate of Menoth was the first faction I picked up for Warmachine. While I have completed a significant number of the Warjacks and a handful of the Warcasters and solos my goal for this project is to finish the remaining miniatures for the army.

After going out and obtaining several lamps and making a homemade light box I believe I have a way of taking higher quality photos.  Here is a sample of the new photography taken with a Nikon D3100 DSLR camera.

This has only been possible thanks to @Lancorz and his photography tips seen here.

It has been a while since my last post but I have continued to work away at these miniatures.  I have completed the Exemplar Errant banner bearer, the Knight Exemplar officer and one of the bodyguards.

When looking at the bleached armor I went back to the original recipe and followed up with an additional highlight in a few places to help it stand out.

Bleached Armor

  • Basecoat: Citadel Base Zandri Dust (usually applied via the spray can with touch ups afterwards)
  • Wash: Citadel Shade Seraphim Sepia
  • Layer: Citadel Base Zandri Dust
  • Highlight (new): Citadel Ushabti Bone

The cloak on the bodyguard is:

Dark Red Cloth

  • Basecoat: Citadel Base Mephiston Red
  • Layer: Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet
  • Wash: Citadel Shade Carroburg Crimson
  • Highlight: Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet

For the skin I focused more on blending the colors more on the second round:

Human Skin

  • Basecoat: Citadel Base Bugman’s Glow
  • Wash: Citadel Shade Reikland Fleshshade
  • Layer: Citadel Base Bugman’s Glow
  • Highlight: 50/50 mixture of Citadel Base Bugman’s Glow and Citadel Cadian Fleshtone
  • Highlight: Citadel Cadian Fleshtone

For the leather on the gloves I focused on keeping it simple:

Brown Leather

  • Basecoat: Citadel Base Mournfang Brown
  • Wash: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade
  • Highlight: Citadel Base Mournfang Brown

I painted the light cream cloth using the following:

Bleached Cloth

  • Basecoat: Citadel Base Zandri Dust
  • Layer: Citadel Ushabti Bone
  • Highlight: Citadel Screaming Skull

To finish it all off I paint the base black followed by a strip of Citadel Base Mephiston Red.

The sand is painted as well:

Bleached Cloth

  • Basecoat: Citadel Base XV-88
  • Layer: Citadel Zamesi Desert
  • Drybrush: Citadel Dry Underhive Ash

Overall I am happy with how these came out.

The final touches are to seal the models and add grass tufts.

Knight Exemplar Officer - In Progress - Part 2

I have completed most of the model at this point.  I am unhappy with how the face came out and will revisit that before painting the model’s base.

So the next steps are:

  • Repaint the face
  • Highlight the Menofixes
  • Paint the base

To start with today I had most of the base colors applied and ready for a wash. I needed to fix some of the painting on the red cloak especially where it met the armor. At the end of the session I had washed the bleached armor while layering it back up with the Zandri Dust. I washed the gold details and am generally happy with how the wash came out. The layering on the red cloth and cloak has been completed. My next steps are to paint the armor trim and highlight the cloth and gold details. At the end of the session I had washed the bleached armor while layering it back up with the Zandri Dust.
