This Project is Completed
After a brief sojourn up north its time to crack on. Next the deadly Megan Wild
First a few basic colours, mat black, necromancer cloak and Lava orange. I want to keep her quite monochrome so the hair pops
Next we do some elven flesh, greedy gold, a frew face details with the red eys and dark lips (im going for a smirk, wish me luck!) and then a skeleton bone drybrush.
The queen of vengeance, Maria Torres Villa!
Okay we’re back! Maria looks like a really cool model and should be relatively simple to do.
The Traitorous John Hunter Bennett
- Now onto the last of the posse. The infamous traitor John Hunter Bennett. Slightly different style for this one with the blue uniform but should be fun!
Absolute Power, Absolutely DONE!!!
At last they are all done and based. Really pleased with how they all turned out despite the dodgy primer! Also really enjoyed playing around with the basing and water effects and whilst not yet perfect i’ll keep experimenting. Oh and Slayn got added because, well he’s SLAYN!
Subtlety, F**K subtlety!!!
So are a while thinking on whats next for my Hex faction i did look at various faces, hands and of course hex beasts but then I remembered i had something from the original Kickstarter id been meaning to work on for ages. It’s probably up there as one of my favourite models in the range and its a subtle as the proverbial brick. It is the Vaquero heavy buggy and its a beast! Now im not much of a vehicle painter but i jave to say im really looking forward to this one!
Due to an enforced layoff as Red Dead Redemption 2 came out my painting time has taken a bit of a hit recenty but this weekend I decided it was time to get back on the metaphorical horse and get this beast finished!
Firat up it was the basics, khaki for the cloth, Gold and bronze for the metal work and matt black for the sodding tyres! Seriously those chains are a nice touch but man are they annoying to paint around!
Next all the little details for the crew, skulls and seats. Nice, plush red leather seats!
Then a skeleton bone drybrush, dash detail and washes of soft tone and dark tone
Also I forgot to memtion the little flashes of RJ power coming out the engine slits. Simple dark red, light red, orange, yellow and white.
Vaquero Heavy Buggy continued
Went for a Dark Tone army painter dip, brushed on. Lets give it 12 hrs and see what happens!
- So after a matt coat i’d say we are pretty much done. Just need to get the base sorted. Overall im pleased with how this one turned out!
Next up the base, first a generous helping of Stirland Mud
once the Stirland mud had dried, the base was hit with a skelton bone dry-brush followed by a layer of dark tone wash.
Next it was a layer of soft tone dip, a layer of mat coat and finally a layer of gloss varnish to give it a wet look and some tufts.
So thats it, the beast is finished! Overall im pleased with how it turned out, i have to admit about halfway through i was dubious that it was going to work but the metals have muted down nicely which makes a huge difference. Now, what next….
Bass Reeves and the Apache Kid
Finally after my Christmas Red Dead Hiatus its time to get the brushes out. Next up, Bass and the Kid!
Thats the base for the Kid, now onto Bass
Now all the block colours are down and both have been drybrushed with skeleton bone its a brush applied layer of soft tone dipAnd thats it! They are mat coated, based and ready to raise hell in the West!
Really looking forward to seeing what they can do on the tabletop as they seem like a very interesting proposition!
Mounted Support!
Whilst reorganising my painting table i came across three Blackhoof scout models for the Confederate Army. Now i’d been constantly putting these off as i was convinced they would be a big job and i am trying to avoid getting tied to one project for too long. Also i may still have had a bit of a hangover from painting the giant six wheeled Vaquero buggy so am slighty averse to larger models! Anyway just as i was about to put them away I realised if i put them away now i may not revist them for months so i decided to see if i could get them all done in one Sunday. So here goes, WWX Batch painting!
Here they are in all their Leadbelcher finery!
So far so good, pretty much all the base colours down in a few hours. Had to do a little touch up work as may have been a little impatient at the off.
Up next its the usual Skeleton Bone drybrush followd by a Darktone wash. 50/50 mix with the wash medium to give it a nice smooth finish. CANNOT RECOMMEND WASH MEDIUM ENOUGH! Seriously itll change your life!
7pm, Sunday evening and i manage to escape the family long enough to put down a layer of soft tone dip (brush applied). Thats mission accomplished for the day, ill get it based and mat coated on Monday evening. In between dad duties and grabbing five minutes at a time (much like @warzans infamous hobby bog idea!) i gave the base a soft tone dip and then a brushed on mat coat. Fyi if you are new to mat coating with brush and its goes milky as you apply panic not, its just bubbles and left alone it will settle down as it dries!
