About the Project
A couple of years ago I picked up Blackpowders Rebellion supplement. from Warlord games. Black powder games are hard to get into as it requires a lot of miniatures and my original thought was to delve into Napoleonics but the rebellion book sparked my imagination.I find the wars for independence to be very interesting and colourful with its variety and setting. This project is a chart of my progress as I began collecting the armies required to recreate the scenarios in the supplement and the terrain involved.

Jaegers
While taking shots of my Hessian’s I forgot my Jaegers. Probably because they were off hiding in a wood some place.
Rebels in Redcoats
The first Connecticut Regiment was one of the few American units to wear red coats which must have been confusing. One of the things I like about painting the Continental Army is the variety of colour schemes to choose from. My first none militia unit I painted was ironically in red. Usually the drummers in Rebel units wore captured red coats which was an interesting bit of trivia. I dont think I would have liked to have been a rebel in red.
3rd New York Regiment
This was an interesting unit to paint. I find the grey with green facing to be a very smart look. I used to think continentals just wore blue until I got into era. The units that are grey or brown colours look smart on the table and adds a lot of variety to a force.
19th Continentals
This unit was rather hard to research for some reason. I couldn’t find any uniform colours until I spotted another wargamer had done them in a rather nice beige colour which I gladly copied.
Delaware Regiment
The Delaware regiment had some nice looking light infantry style caps at the beginning of the war but would later end up in tricorns. From what I can gather this unit would later be decimated at the battle of Camden and get amalgamated into other regiments and was the only unit from Delaware.
Battle of Chattertons Hill Report
Chatterton Hill is the second scenario in the Rebellion supplement for Balck powder. It see’s the British out flanking Washingtons army at New York forcing the rebels to abandon Manhattan Island. The Rebels hold a hill that if the British can take will allow them to bombard the rest of the rebel army. The game began with the rebels deployed waiting for the Brits to come into play. Some failed command rolls kept the best of the crown forces off the table at the start of the game. The rebels tried to take advantage of this by crossing the river into the Crowns deployment zone. As the continental army tried to cross the bridge the militia halted at the ford as Redcoats came into the area and a fire fight started. The Brits splashed into the ford and were met by militia and a large fight began mid stream. Mean while the Dragoons and light infantry finally made it on to the table clearing the bridge of rebels. The Dragoons swept on into the fleeing enemy leaving them exposed and having to fall back. German Jaegers exchanged fire over the river and managed to see off two units with some superb marksmanship. Meanwhile at the ford the Brits reinforced by Hessians saw off the militia and it wasnt long before the whole rebel line began to retire. The quuickest game of Blackpowder I’ve ever had coming in just over two hours.
Princeton
Next battle to work towards is Princeton where Washington himself takes the field. This will be an interesting battle to work towards as it sees a small British force get attacked by a much larger American one. The Britts need to hold on for 12 turns with out breaking. looking at the map above I’m going to need a river. I’ve reorganized my forces to see what I’m missing. I’m going to need a lot more rebels which gives me a chance to paint up some more colourful units.
