Finished MODOK this weekend. I’m getting happier and happier with how much I’m growing as a painter with each finished miniature. It makes me want to repaint all my older minis. I might have to eventually buy another starter so I can revisit them without stripping my already finished minis.

The irony here is that MODOK is a really, really silly character, but because he’s my most recently finished mini, he looks quite a bit better than my other miniatures. Anyway, next up, I’m finally painting Venom.

Real life has been rather busy, so I haven’t had much time to paint lately, but I finally managed to get Venom ready to go.

A couple things I learned with him. All of the practice painting black that I did on Black Widow, Black Panther and Thor really helped with getting down the shading. However, my main take away with him is that after I had finished Hulk I realized that I didn’t care for how I had shaded his muscles. I made every muscle do a basic highlight up top to a shade down below. However, with some muscles this doesn’t actually look right. For instance, the shoulder muscles on Venom you can see that I intentionally shaded them like malformed cylinders, with the highest parts of light a little less than halfway down each muscle. This looks a lot more natural than what I did with the Hulk. So I tried this approach when highlighting Venom and I think the results are quite an improvement.

Overall I’m really happy with him. As usual, the pictures muddy up the shading a bit and blur out some of the detail, but I’ll have to get myself a better photo set up once real life settles down a bit.

Real life let up just enough for me to finish Hawkeye. Pretty happy with how he turned out. Hate the pics as usual as more of my transitions aren’t captured by them and hence it looks much sloppier in the pics than it does in person. But otherwise I’m pretty satisfied. Gonna have to take a new Avengers pic, but I might wait until the new Black Widow is painted, but I’m also waiting until the movie comes out before I paint her, so for now I’m moving on to the Black Order, which I’m really excited about. Gotta get some more baddies painted up for all these heroes to fight.

Finished a good chunk of the NYC terrain. Still have a couple buildings and cars and a few trucks to finish before it's all done, but this is a good start. At the very least I can get some games in with proper terrain now.Finished a good chunk of the NYC terrain.
