About the Project
So this year I managed to get my hands on some Assault on Black Reach Orks for the price of a pint and so I decided to go back and complete the army that 12 year old me wanted to do if only I had the funds at the time! I reached out to eBay and bought a load of gorkamorka model vehicles which I have always loved and seen as quintessentially orkish

What a slog that has been. nearly two weeks to paint these 24 Ork Boyz.
Some serious lack of motivation for them was encountered and I am now seriously doubting whether I will go back and do the additional layer of highlights I said I would do. I simply do not relish the opportunity to do it on 60 models when there are far more interesting things to do!
things like
- paint 10 warbikers
- paint 3 deathcopters
- add cardboard to a wartrakk
- paint 4 custom trukks
- paint 4 custom wartrakks
- paint a scortcha buggy and a custom wartrakk scortcha
- paint the ghost of ghazghull past
- strip the real ghazghull and then paint him. (oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, I picked one up for a tenner)
So still plenty to do! 25 models in fact
but first I must varnish and base these Boyz before I can truly call them done.
It's red so it's faster (to paint)
Ok so my whining about how much I hated painting them was a bit premature.
yes it wasn’t fun but really it was quite quick. remember my objective is tabletop standard not golden deamon winning.
these meet tabletop standard so this is a win.
Also I’ve realised that the Halfords base red primer I have is not a colour I have in citadel model paint. so currently they do not match my models red (mephiston) which is a bit pants but I’ll live with it.
Basic paint jobs for basic trukks
ok so the trucks are all painted to tabletop ish standard which will be good enough for now.
I ran out of army painter matt varnish so defaulted to the next can I have as an experiment. the Halfords primers have worked well for me so I picked up a can of clear lacquer too. but it is super shiny which is frustrating as hell right now as I have 1 model and 3 bright stars in the night sky.
any advice? (besides buy more army painter stuff)
so before I highlight and weather these trukks and revarnish them I thought id show them off. They are definitely game-able at this state but would really benefit from weathering (dirt and rust) for sure!
I don’t think the deffcopters need it because they have the interesting base to distract from them but these trukks definitely do because of their ramshackle nature
Trakks, Trash and Total Lunacy
The that’s the first of the wartrakks done!
3 out 5.
I am really pleased with how the cardboard and metal meshes have been coming out on these models. likewise I am really pleased with the weathering and rusting sponge technique too.
I did however go overboard and spoil the rusting on these. too much orange!
Im quite happy with how the fire and forget missile came out. the rivet plates look cool.
I am really happy the the centre wartrakk left hand side yellow armour panelling. it looks suitably ramshackle and hurriedly bolted on and held with crude metal banding.
Im also happy with my attempt at German schurzen. that’s a good thing to keep in mine for any ww2 tanks I do in the future.
