Advent Calendar – Bar Room Brawl

About the Project
I picked up Mantic's bar room brawl. I'll show what I get each day and hopefully get some of the stuff painted (no promises that it'll be ready in time for Christmas).

Day 23. Another brench.
Advent almost over and another door to open.
The second and final bench, something I wasn’t looking forward to quite as much as the other content but a welcome addition all the same.
Day 22. Under the table again.
I’ve knocked off for the year. Just the Christmas shopping, haircut , endless work emails from people who don’t respect my holidays and my wrecked car to scrap before the big day.
On a brighter note today sends me to the big windows at the bottom of the calendar, which implies furniture.
And lord-a-mercy here it is, the third table (the actual third table, not me losing count at the time of the second table).
Two windows left and fewer excuses for not getting any of this painted.
Day 21. Dwarf!
Getting close to the end. Day 21 brings a dwarf, I think the final player mini.
I love this guy. I love the monster turkey leg (dinosaur leg? I dunno it’s a beast though) he’s waving around.
Day 20. More colour coding.
The clock is ticking, the advent calendar windows are dwindling, the Christmas prep is still undone.
Today brings more tokens, again the red, yellow, green and blue. Again no additions to the pile of opportunity.
Looking at the four remaining windows I think I know what’s still to come but I’ll keep that to myself.
Day 19. One!
I’m rarely as aware of the date as I’ve been this month. Here we are on day 19 of advent. What does Santa Ron have for the eager gamer today?
It looks like a first player token. Could do with one of these at real bars full of part time drinkers waving tenners around and ordering their Guinness last.
Ok that was a weird rant, it’s another token and another update without any additional painting required, for which I’m very thankful.
Day 18. Drinks Cabinet.
Holy moly it’s Christmas next week. That thought is enough to drive me to drink. Mantic has my back today with a drinks cabinet.
Is it still called a drinks cabinet if it’s actually in a pub? Bottle cupboard? Booze area? I have no idea.
Day 17. More tokens
Low key update today. Some more tokens. The colours may relate to the player minis. I’ve only started one: the big Basilean paladin chap, and he’s red to match his hat. I was thinking of doing the spell caster green so maybe colour coding could be a plan.
Day 16. Beer tokens!
Today it’s beer tokens. Having spent a few last night I’m very relieved to replenish them.
Crucially that’s two days in a row my pile of opportunity has not grown. Definitely something to be thankful for..
Day 15. A dice update.
What day is it? What’s that thing? Are these my feet? December workload refuses to go easy in time for Christmas but here we are for some tinselly joy.
So a pair of dice in suitably yuelified colours.
? D6 you a merry Christmas, D6 you a merry Christmas, D6 you a merry Christmas, and a happy new year ?
Day 14. Likely the final table.
14 days in, no mince pies consumed, still in the hunt for Whamgeddon and a total of two presents bought.
Today my questing finger heads towards the bottom row of Ron’s Box of Festive Delights. This would imply more scenic doohickeys.
And true to expectations it’s a third table. The board implies it’s the last one. We’re getting close to a complete game.
As sundancer helpfully points out it’s only the second table. My memory is pish and the images on the board are brightly coloured. No prizes for guessing the content of one of the unopened big doors then.
Day 13. Mystery lass!
It’s a grey and chilly Wednesday here in the middle bit of England so I’m thankful to have my calendar to bring a bit of cheer.
Today we welcome another festive lass to the project. I don’t know my Pamethor well enough to know exactly who she is.
She has a similar ragged skirt to the Northern Alliance gal from a few days ago. Is she their Spellcaster given a tinsel glow up?
Day 12. Half way there
Half way through the door-opening (unboxing? undooring?) phase of this project and what do we have here? Why it’s a table!
The game board hints heavily that there’s another of these so I’ll not start painting it just yet. Yeah any excuse.
? whoah we’re halfway there, wo-hoah table with no chair! ?
Days 10 and 11. A double dip!
Oh the shame! After cranking out an update on stadium 5g at half time I fail to do so yesterday while actually at home. So it’s two days of joy to brighten a gloomy Monday.
Up first we have a dwarf barman. I’ve known some miserable bar staff in my time and he’s straight into the top ten. He’s also my favourite mini so far. Bravo, Mantic. Bravo!
On to today!
And today we have a fireplace. The grate was part of the jumble of tiny things the other day so we’re all set to warm our chestnuts on a chilly December day.
Day 9. A festive mystery.
Today the cardboard gods have offered up chairs, plates, a fire and … these things.
Also forgetting to do this on train wi-fi and doing it at half time in the early kick off is rubbish
Day 8. Have we been here before?
I won’t roll out the lame health and safety gags from a day or two ago. It’s another brazier.
Maybe knocking them over burns down the pub and ends the game. We’ll see, dear reader. We’ll see.
Day 7. Roll out the barrels!
A week of this nonsense and I’m still as excited to open my door each day.
Today it’s a few barrels, for what use a tavern with no ale – despite my frequent attempts to drink it all.
Placing these on the board it looks like there aren’t any more barrels coming. I’m tempted to make a start on them.
Related, my gaming sesh on Sunday is postponed (the gods laugh when gamers make plans and they laugh loudest at plans in December) so I’ll get some painting in.
Day 6. A health and safety nightmare
6th December and the mince pie count is still at zero. In an effort to spark some festive joy I’ve turned to my Mantic advent calendar.
This appears to be a brazier. To my mollycoddled C21 snowflake eyes this seems to be a health and safety catastrophe waiting to happen.
A fire at head height? In a tavern? Surrounded by pissed Basilean paladins, Northern Alliance hard ladies and who knows who else?
The game board is only made of cardboard and it’ll go up like the Hindenburg if some aled up layabout knocks that thing over! Oh well at least it’ll keep the winter chill away.
Day 5. A fierce lass from a cold climate
Yesterday I gave Saturday’s festive Basilean a wash, so of course it’s another resin mini today!
This time we’ve a lass down from the northern alliance, who’s very sensibly taken her coat off otherwise she wouldn’t feel the benefit at chucking out time.
She’s absolutely tremendous, and another kick to me to get my finger out and paint some non-festive northern alliancers.
Day 4. A bench - and One Colour Up!
I’m really enjoying this, I genuinely can’t wait to see what’s behind the next papery door.
So here is day four (or the 4th December as it’s sometimes known).
Here we have a bench! Looking at the board it implies there’s another and a couple of tables. Maybe this should wait for their arrival before painting.
Speaking of painting, there is progress here. Here’s the bar from Day One (aka Friday). I fear setting a precedent my free time and concentration can’t keep up but it’s just … brown. I’m thinking of starting a series called One Colour Up (sorry John).
Day 3. Tokens
Very happy to see this. The first day of advent that’s not added to my pile of … opportunity.
