About the Project

Taking a break from Moonstone painting for a little while and decided to paint my Chaos Dwarf team for Blood Bowl. I have since decided to just make it a full blood bowl project as I have a few other models that need painting. Hopefully this project will help encourage me to get up to date.

Had a friendly game with the Gilded Bulls – and although it was fun it was a loss against gnomes.

In fairness, it was a learning game and the dice rolls mostly went against me.  When I offered my opponent a few helpful hints, my helpfulness definitely backfire and the agate ‘no good deed goes unpunished’, but it was a fun game either way.

First half

I won the roll off and decided to revive the ball.

I promptly failed my first roll to activate my Minotaur and lost my blitz.  This was a theme for the rest of the game.  I then bashed his team, knocking out a couple of gnomes and knocking down a few more players.  I then went to pick up the ball with an hobgoblin and rolled a one (sigh).  A re-roll used already but picked up the on the second attempt.

The next three turns involved me breaking down the left hand side and ending a couple of squares from the end zone.  With my penchant for rolling ones, decided to not risk it and wait for my next turn.  However a 2 die uphill die roll allowed me to chose either a pow or a pow, I lose the ball and my player is stunned.  Over the next four turns my opponents fox player, managed to dodge through my turn and score on the last turn of the half. One nil down after the first half.   My only positive is that I injured one player and knocked out 8 others.

My opponent then rolls for his knocked out players and all but one return to the pitch.  FFS.

Second half

I kick to my opponent, he gets the ball and cages up.  I go on the offence with a Minotaur blitz and actually pass the roll, and then roll 3 both down results.  Try a refill but failed the loner roll, so wasted a turn and a reroll.  Good times.

In the next couple of turns, my opponent Stuntys his way through my defence by not failing a dodge, survived my attempts to hit his ball carrier and scored again.

I then receive the ball and smash a hole through his team.  With most of his team stunned or at least knocked over, I again make a run for it and get stopped a couple squares from the end.   He gets a couple players around I knocked over again.  I then on my next turn run a player to the ball and fail to pick it up, and obviously fail the re-roll as well.  He then scoops up the ball and runs down the field, I get the ball back and head back to the end zone.  He again knocks me over with a 2 die uphill roll.  He is about to take a wrestle until I ‘helpfully’ explain that he may break my hobgoblins armour which means I would be able score with that player.  Obviously he breaks my romper and knocks out the player.  That is how the end of his half.

I check out the situation and there is a chance I score but putting a player in the end zone and then throwing it to them.  The only issue is that I am out of re-rolls.  Oh well nothing to lose.  I run my bull centaur into the end zone with a rush.   I roll a six.  He is now in place.

I run a hobgoblin to the ball but need to go for it – another 6 – the roll to pickup the ball and roll a 3, which is all that is needed.  I check my passing skill and I need a 4+, which I roll, I then need to roll for the pass but need 4+.  So 50/50.  I obviously roll what seems like my 1 millionth 1 of the game.

so I have a 2 nil loss for the first one season game.

Summary

With a few better injury rolls, the game would have different but it was still enjoyable.

The foxes on the gnome team need to die.   With a 2+ AG and Stunty and Dodge, essentially they are a 2+ roll to dodge anywhere.

Anyway onwards and upwards – and will see how it goes next week

A couple of star players

Neither came out brilliantly but they are to a good enough standard for me bearing in mind I will unlikely use them any time in the near future.

As a positive, at least I have now completed another 2 blood miniatures, I may have ordered 4 more from GW but as they haven’t been received yet, I think that means I am making progress.  So good times.

Going to have a break from blood bowl painting for a while, until I have at least built and primed my new stuff and then will see.

So, with the following model I have now got all the positional for a chow dwarf team – which when my next Blood Bowl league starts, is going to be my team of choice.

I simply followed the recipe for the rest of the Chaos Dwarf team, the exception was the skin and bone.

Skin colour was simply the GW dark skin trio – catachan, knight questor, and blood reaver skin paints.

Bone colour was starting from Kharak stipend and then ubshanti bone and screaming skull.

When I do start playing with the Chorfs, I may even submit a few game reports – don’t expect too many wins

Continuing with some star players – Puggy Baconbreath & Rumblelow Sheeskin.

Over the next couple of weeks, I am planning to complete a few more but will see.

So the Chaos Dwarf team are finished including star players.   I may come back and revisit it after I have found and acquired a suitable Minotaur mini but for now, I can move onto over things.

However, as I may need to remember the paint job, I will list the paints used.

Yellow armour:  Averland Sunset, Agrax Earthshade, Averland, Flayed One Flesh

Black: Curvus Black, Skavenblight Dinge, Stormvermin fur

Bone:  Zandri dust, Agrax, Zandri, ushanti bone, Screaming Skull

Brown:  XV88, Argrax, Tau Light Ochre, Ungor Flesh

Green Flesh:  Straken Green, Ogryn Camo,

Metal: TTC Plate Armour, Agrax, TTC Mithril Blade

I have taken some photos near completion which are below.

The finished team The finished team

I did add a few white pitch lines on some of the bases but unless I do get the Minotaur, I am counting this team as finished.

I am now moving onto my outstanding star players.  These have been built and I want to get these completed before the end of the year so I have a clean palette for at least one game going into 2025 – I won’t succeed but I do want to clear out these projects.

I am also going to ignore the existence of my unpainted gnome team and that way it doesn’t count in the outstanding to do list.

GW Star players to do:

Puffy Baconbreath

Rumbellow

Bryce Cambuel

Grashnak

Jordell Freshbreeze

Skitter Stab-Stab

Karina von Reisz

Ivan Deathshroud

Count Luthor

Third party miniatures:

Count Luthor

Giant

Rowana

I need to finish the team but there are other things in my blood bowl collection needing to be sorted.  This includes a gnome team, various star players – both GW and third party, and a giant.

With the exception of the gnomes, I have included images of what needs sorting.  Some stuff does need building as you can see from the forgeworld models.
