FISHMEN!!! WE NEED FISHMEN!!!
Fishmen In Space /nod
sounds: ok.
Plague for me, thank you. Now, where´s my concept sketches? 🙂
Tentacles around your mouth eh? So warpath has Humans, dwarfs, orx, elves, Hippies, zombies, something, something else, AND ZOIDBERG! woopwoopwoopwoopwoop! *clicks claws like castanets*
I like the way everythings being fitted into the universe, I was sceptical about zombies (in spaaace), but like Reavers in serenity , it kind of works.
I’m talking about the eighth race, I’m talking … oh no …. no …. no, no, nooooooooooooooo …
Ha! Ha! now you know what hapens when you break the rules. Rules are your friends. OBAY, OBAY! whaahahaha
I am looking forward to more details. I like the idea of the plauge, it seems more sci-fi than say chaos or something so ‘mystical’ like that I like fantasy and I like sci-fi but I don’t like the idea of mixing them as much. though somehow I still managed in 40k verse….
ZOMBIEEESSSS!!!…IN SPAAAACE!!! Something like this (but better, of course)?

I’m drawn in deeper with every tid bit
I’m hoping The Plague will let me play an army akin to the Necromorphs from Dead Space, because that would be AWESOME
Hrm, still on the side-line myself – the tentacles/mouths bit peaked my interest, if they allow armies of big shoggoth/lovecraftian abominations id be happy. No interest in the zombies part though, too humanoid for my taste.
Sounds promising thus far…really like the idea of the Plague and the Reb’s. Not to mention how cool the concept sketches have been for the Forgefathers & Marauders. I really want to know more about the Zorg (& the *cough*8th race*cough*). Looking forward to the backstagers only preview on the Zorg! :p to you non-backstagers! lol 😉
Sorry not Zorg…Zz’or! Yay for Backstage…:D
The plague sound liek a really interesting choice, although the models will decide it for me. Also whats this about an eigh-*muffled sounds of a struggle*…
Well that reveals all of them. Let’s recap:
Corporation – humans bent on corporate takeover of the galaxy
Forgefathers – ancient civilization of strip miners
Marauders – failed takeover of the corporation that now work as mercenaries and overall badasses
Rebs – alliance of humans and other small races fighting the man (corp)
Asterians – mysterious…thats all we know… oh and something about black holes
The Plague – zombie apocalypse all controlled by a central virus… in space
Zz’or – a veritable hornets nest of bugs that have been shooken up and are spreading far
The 8th race – This one is cool, it’s a wa[Deleted]
Nova3k has been banned for this post.
still the same here
what am I complaining about ? – That the ideas are nothing new [not talking about new miniatures but IDEAS…because I really would like to see a real new setting instead of new miniatures only …cool miniatures for something appear almost on a daily basis but these ideas are decades old] Its all been there before and I still believe they could do way better and be really witty because they actually are good designers and smart people
so we actually have is :
Corporation [humans that violently conquer space and extinguish other races for their own good] – Empire of Men
Rebs [Men that think the Corporation is not so cool] – Chaos Space Marines and Traitors
Forgefathers [ok a wee bit cooler in design, but still the same idea ] – Squats
Marauders [slightly stupid fellas that only life for War called “Orx] – Orcs
Asterians [ Elves that have a secret way of travelling through black holes – webway anyone? ] – Eldar
The Plague [undeads in space controlled by a central power *cough* C`tan ? ] – Necrons
Zz`or [ Insects ..IN SPAAAAACE] – Tyranids
so guys for real you could love this game and whatever, but seriously, this is a plain rip-off. And I know that GW hasnt invented this stuff either ( I mean terms and ideas like : elves, dwarfs, undeads, AI-robots ) but they were the first to put that in a game of this kind and size and develop it further – and all this reads and feels like the same things they made just with another name tag on it.
And I am not complaining because I am such a big GW fan ( I would give the same speech no matter which company it was ) I am complaining because I see a company that offers the very rare ( not to say UNIQUE, and thank you for that Mantic ! I really mean it!) chance to a community to create together something revolutionary new, something groundbreaking, something that could turn the world asunder ( gaming-wise, you know ^^ ) but than just digs out the old jokes and everybody seems totally ok with that even more – is totally excited and freaked out . I see this hype for this game which COULD be a huge thing, but simply seems like a copy of a existing thing just with less background and less conceived rules.
The 8th race is the only chance left to make a real contribution to miniature wargaming and sci-fi by adding something new to the whole setting . And it saddens me to see that you all pass up the given chance – and that Mantic as well passes up – whereas you all/ we all together (including Mantic) could for once really create a game that not only is better and worth your love because it is – quote : “Not from GW” but because it really is better in every aspect! Better than any miniature wargame out there !

Since GW where such huge arse holes about Dwarves in space I really don’t think they can still claim anything to that point. Furthermore it is just you that want to make it into yet another Mass Effect like thing. I mean name how many fantasy races in space wargames there are with actual rules? Not miniature making companies that just make them so those “Poor Squat gamers can keep playing, or play them as Demiurg”. Infact it is far more common to invent really different things then Fantasy in the SciFi setting and thus your argument is flawed.
Furthermore the Zz’or don’t have the be Tyranid just because they are insects. The Tyranids are NOT insects they are a hive mind creature that creates any kind of creature from the basis of what it has absorbed to absorb more biomass into it’s system. This doesn’t have to be insects.
In fact your Chaos resemblance also doesn’t ad up. Since by that standard any human faction fighting another dominant human faction in space would be Chaos in your book. The Corporation is also not very close to the Imperium as it isn’t following the Corporation as a religion which lost most of it’s technology in superstition. It actually comes closer to alot of other SciFi series and lore where a Coorperation is all powerfull almost. Even Unreal has that atmosphere with the Liandri Corp, or is that Imperium now too? In fact the Imperial guard uses a more World War 2 style and atmosphere of tanks and ordnance. Even though it is more modern, the style itself comes pretty close. The Coorperation would be alot more advanced and less supserstitious in looks.
Now I’ve heard Chaos being referred to as alot, big fan of Pappa Nurgle here, but never as Hippies. Rebs basically are, so again argument flawed. Astarians where more like Pixxies and Fairies they claimed, and as far as I know GW doesn’t have those, unless the Exodites suddenly enter space age and add a lot of Faerie friends to the mix.
The Necrons are also a far cry from undead, yes they are similair but the lore is different. What Mantic does here is actually closer to Dead space then to GW’s Necrons.
Sorry to be acting so “miffed” (I’m not really btw ;)) but I waited long enough for GW to hand me Dwarves in space again. They failed and gave me Weeaboo Space Commies instead. But hey we can always give you your way. Frogians (Frog people), Girafians (Girafe people but then with short necks), HumptyDumptians (they look like Egg people and they hate walls), The big bad bald ones (Bald humans with huge guns .. oh no wait.. space marines. GW already traded marked Baldness AAAAH.. better watch out Alessio they might sue you for that…). 😉
Sorry this post got longer then I wanted too ;). Just wanted to make the point about space Dwarves and then the rest happened lol.
For his Hairstyle I mean. Everybody knows only GW can have Bald men in armour suits. Everybody else is ripping them off ;).
its ok ^^ at least someone takes the time to actually say something ^^ better than just sneaking the minus karma in , will answer tomorrow I am simply to sleepy right now to get it together in a foreign language ^^
but to actually add something right now I think you are still not get my point right, your answers show that you look at this too superficial right now ( but maybe I simply failed to convey it which could be quite possible as this all still a foreign language for me ^^ ) in short – small differences dont make it something completely different .
Simple example : its not two completely different human factions that happen to fight against each other, its :
First faction has kind of a fascistic idea – a greater ideal that is immoral one could say – the Empire tries to wipe out every race so that mankind alone could rule over the stars , the corporation does kind of the same but slightly less aggressive by first exploiting them but in the end – as they said – they simply kill the civilization by slave labor or if they refuse to surrender they are killed immediately. In both scenarios they are kind of badass fucktards that think they are the only one leading race ( and if you try to bring up that they work together with the forgefathers bare in mind : the Squats were once Men that shrunk due to the gravitational conditions on their homeworld and they worked together with the Empire as well )
Second thing is the religious idea of the Empire is here transfered into another idea of the same kind, a corporation they all work for so instead of a church all men are commited to its a corporation in the end in both systems their is one great unifying idea that is fascistic and imperialistic ( meaning : your own race profiting from enslaving/killing other races, occupying their land and believing that your own needs are superior to everything/ everyone )
AND NOW the second human faction doesnt just appears to be another faction that happened to be in another sector for a long time so that they could develop a separate culture , no they rebel against the corporation and their culture and beliefs! because they dont believe in their behavior ( ideals ) and their corporation( Emperor and/or church ) and that is why I didnt mentioned the chaos as a whole ( because these rebs really arent what the chaos is, they are in no way corrupted by gods or something) but I especially only named traitors because traitors they are from a corporations standpoint.
and actually about the Zz`or ..yes Tyranids are insects, its mentioned throughout many codices that they seem to be some kind of / or could best be compared to Insects , even using the term ” insect” on some occasions.
the rest I will comment tomorrow simply to hard now to write now ^^, but again thanks for saying something !

sorry …we need an edit button for this :
forgot to mention about the tyranid thing: think about why everyone of them has 6 extremities like an insect ( besides arachnoid’s ^^ ) and why some insects form colonies ( with a Queen/hive mind , google for superorganism or look it up on wikipedia )
I’ll reply here – the other posts won’t let me.
You’re basically saying that even though the idea behind the Corporation’s Imperium-of-Man-style dominance is different, and even though they may look different, that isn’t enough and it’s still ripping off GW.
There are very few original ideas around any more, and to say that no idea can be changed a little to make something new, that you have to completely invent from scratch, would seriously hamper the creative and intellectual development of the world.
By your argument GW haven’t developed their derivative works enough, since Spess Mahreens come from Starship Troopers (well, the book anyway) and Tyranids come from H.R. Giger’s work on Alien (find a pic of a 2nd Ed Hormagaunt or 3rd Ed Hive Tyrant and see for yourself) so GW shouldn’t be making their universe.
You can’t say that Mantic haven’t developed their background enough, since GW have had 20 years to do that for 40K but Mantic have been in business for less than 3.
Warmachine was criticised for ripping off Dreadnaughts – is this then not different enough?
Infinity looks like Ghost in the Shell and its faster-than-light transport network comes straight out of Dune (though without the Navigators I think) – is this not different enough?
If you truly want original works, you need to support them and get others to do so, or revamps of older ideas are all GW or Mantic will make. For example, talk to @abstractalien about Primeval Abyssian, that’s very different…
Also, don’t use ‘das ist eine Fremdsprache’ as an excuse when you write English so well 😉 and don’t worry about minus Karma – say what you mean to say, just don’t be a troll.
It helps that the Karma system has been altered so you only gain it, never lose it (although thumbs-downs remain to show memebr reactions and blank out the worst offenders) of course…
@thc303
“If you truly want original works, you need to support them and get others to do so”
this actually is my way of trying as I am not criticizing the Company as a whole – in fact I praised them on different occasions for being so brave to even make this step, to get it out with an alpha status and let a community of players help them. AND on more than one occasion I emphasized how I deeply believe in their abilities to come up with something better than just a slight alteration of already existing topics and ideas.
And I dont care about the karma as such that my rating goes down (one should clearly got that from my previous posts ^^ ) , but that people will not read those posts I make impartially but they will see “oh minus karma he probably said something that is not in the favor of most people and they consequently gave him what he deserved.” and hence they will read this whole comment in a negative way and thats not even on purpose its just something that happens when you get the slightest indication of it.
And about the whole support thing . If you truly believe in something or somebody ( and damn I do believe in them ! ) and you see that he could do way better, I dont see a better way to support them as to say ” Guys you can do better, this thing right here ….this is mediocre on so many levels.”
Support doesnt always mean to stick to somebody no matter what and to always agree with him , or praise him, it means that you go out there and tell him what you think is the truth about what he does. Even if youre on your own with that opinion.
Because a horde of yea-sayers will never let them see their faults and will never help them to grow or get better at what they are doing, In fact Yea-sayers will get them to a point of complacency …and in the end you will have another heartless, business-orientated game-factory that simply doesnt give a damn.
@partisan I agree that mantic might make more waves with some slightly more original concepts, but it seems like part of their sales strategy to cross-pollinate their models with gw’s. They seem to (1) want current 40k players buy warpath models for their armies while (2) old 40k players become warpath converts using their existing collections. Anyone that argues the first point is delusional, mantic had at least two kow armies before the game was concieved.
I also don’t agree with your army comparisons, not that the background is a direct crossover anyway.
forgefathers: roughly squats, but given a bigger visual reimagining than even dark eldar got.
marauders: orks. probably the closest analogue and most derivative.
corporation: humans with fancy and expensive equipment? I would be surprised if these weren’t space marine analogues. Corporation shocktroops might not be superhuman in the background but that wont stop them from looking similar.
zz’or: yea, they sound like they will be very similar to tyranids, zerg, or starship trooper bugs. will need to see the concepts before we really judge them but I suspect they will be marketed at nid players.
Asterians: They do sound like eldar a bit but they also almost sound like they could incorporate necron models/themes too. The aesthetics could be very interesting and this is a good chance for mantic to step out of gw’s shadow while still marketing to existing 40k folks. I’m hoping we see only one or two direct comparison units here.
Rebs: I do not get any chaos vibe from these guys, they are not evil or corrupt. I am getting an IG/tau alliance feel from the description given. Time will tell.
the plauge: Ok there’s your chaos: tentacled mutants, spreading corruption and destruction, and a sinister intelligence.
will get to this later the day but have your karma right away ^^
hey sorry thought all day what I could say but somehow I didnt figured anything out that would be smart and clever so I thought it would be best just to leave it that way ^^.
Love the idea of the Rebs being a multi-racial army. That is something missing from some more xenophobic sci-fi games we all know. I will definitely be signing up for that faction!
The Rebs are nice but the best thing you said is : “Because sometimes we have to erase the population of a planet and the most simple thing is to realise a virus and kill them all ” That phrase said how war would be in the future 😛
Probably the only thing that constrains the Corporation is the cost of resettlement. Why virus bomb perfectly good human drones when you can incorporate them? A crop of humans take a long time to grow, and if space travel is a challenge (ie, months/years of travel between planets) shifting thousands/millions of people is prohibitively expensive. Just saying: The Corp is obviously the Big Evil, but they probably try and do everything cheaply.
Humans breed like rabbits ;). 100 years is nothing in the Spacetime of the Universe ;).
Slight type on the overlay at the start of the video where it says ‘ovrelay’ instead of ‘overlay’ lol.
But yes – the Rebs are now vying for the ”this is a must” for my love in Warpath. I was all about the Forgefathers but these guys sound pretty awesome. Can’t wait to see the concepts/minis.
P.S….damn it, ‘typo’ not ‘type’ lol
The more I hear about the Rebs, the more I’m liking Warpath. I wonder if I can re-create an Independant Army ala “Firefly” fluff? Down with the Corporation!
We both want to know if the Rebs wear brown coats.
id like 2 see a furry race cats(wing commander) or even a dog/wolf race mybe even other animals like rodents
Quite excited by The Plague army, sure I did a post somewhere about how a flood type army would be great as you could make 50% of the units with small sprues of conversion bits to add to normal units. When you say zombies in space, how in far space? I mean are they going to be zombie troopers, zombie Mass-effect type future civilians in wetsuits or zombie low level colonists/corporate guys in jeans, suits and jackets? I vote colonist, basically because I want multi-part clothed zombies. That would be a useful sprue. Still going to have labourers, scientists and office workers in the future, just ‘in space!’
liking this more and more.
a little Firefly (corp, rebs and plauge)
a little Starship troopers (ZZor)
a bit of D&D (some good old fashioned ork bashing, and some flighty pointy ears.)
and a little bit of mystery (8th race)
think i’m gonna enjoy this a lot. thanks Mantic!
And I thought I’d be the first to hear Corporation, Rebs, Plague and think Alliance, Browncoats, Reavers…
Good to know I’m not alone…
I’d be interested to know if there was actually a little Whedon influence in the design process.
Great job Mantic, the more I hear, the more I like!
Hmpf, I know mantic lives from ripping off GW shares by producing cheaper, above average Minis that are compatible with Warhammer, but these back stories are so lame that a “in space” is equally sufficient. Ronny seems to feel very uncomfortable to present this as real background . I hope the “forgefathers” are not the only “new” race they put out. I think Infinity or Warmachine/Hordes are definitely more interesting as an GW substitute than Warpath or Kings of War because they try to do something new with a real intend to create an interesting background and not these excuses for a story. I hope mantic produces at least some decent Minis that can be used in 40K.
I’m not really feeling the love here yet, Mantic.
Seriously, dudes- SOME of the races just plane suck. You could have done one better by just running some sort of a VOR Part 2 thing “Hey YOU can make your own race, and this and that and yadda yadda….”
Or just came up with a generic template.
But seriously, Your ideas were OK, for the space dwarfs, the Orks. the uh… Zombies.
But the point of the issue here is that these races that you supposedly “Created” have already been done. They arn’t very interesting, your not putting any thought into reinventing the wheel, and for all of the buzz you generated with a supposedly “New” game? This is just Rogue Trader.
There are rules sets out there- FOR FREE that do 100% MORE with a miniatures game then you do with a supposedly “New rules set”.
I was 100% behind the rules set….UNTIL I see the… er… Preview of the “New” races.
Come on, do yourself a solid and get away from the same old same old. You HAVE ME for the space dwarfs, and the orks. The “Zombies” are a standard. Like Peanutbutter and Jelly.
The other wackadoos? No friken way. They are fail on so many levels, that , unless these guys can get up on the table and run around on thier own, your really not grabbing me here.
The comparison with them being a GW substitute is a little harsh.
I’m chalking it up to just plain lazy.
Step up the game, and I spend money. Keep taking the easy way out, and I’ll pick up a couple of boxes of dwarves, MAYBE a box of Orks, and….
Go use the Space Mogual rules set.
Great starting out the gate, PLEASE do not stumble and fall on your faces.
