Warren is in the Nottingham studios for a chat with Gareth from Battlefront about the weird and wonderful world of DUST Tactics. You'll be getting a feel for how each of the different factions work and where all this awesome sounding technology they use comes from!

I love DUST! Such a great starter game for new miniature wargame players. Easy rules, Pre-primed minis and a great Weird War II theme.
Awesome !!! Dust and Bolt Action together what an cool ideal. Sherman’s and walkers WOW. You Guys are killing me I can’t afford all of these wicked awesome games . thanks .
Id like to play bolt action with the dust minis, until better official rules for Dust are released
Will there be advanced rules for warfare as well?
cool vid, an idea for a desert table is get some desert dpm from an army surplus or a fabric shop, should only be about 6-7 quid for 1.5m x 1m
Looking forward to this 🙂
Aw man. I feel another pain the wallet coming on. This looks too cool!
Very attractive minis with the benefit of being able to play straight away if you want to, and I really like the idea of a game that develops and grows the backstory in a chronological order, just like the actual passage of time.
Desert colours and features? Guys, there are dozens of sites and thousands of images of minis and actual stuff from the Western Desert campaigns.
One that sticks in my mind is photos of captured Italian tanks being used by the Aussies around Tobruk – thay painted Massive white kangaroos all over the tanks so they did not get shot at by their own side.
Re desert weathering: remember not to go OTT with the rust effects 😉
…and if you want a good gaming mat: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/819121569/frontline-gaming-and-tablewartm-megamattm
Check out the Barren Wasteland
I might have to bust out the airbrush to get a nice desert theme going on my American force.
Great interview. My only concern was there was no mention of DUST:Warfare. There is still confusion in the community between Warfare and Tactics. I do not play the board game, I play the table top miniatures game.
I hope in the future you include coverage, and information for the Warfare player too.
When we can and are ready we definitely will 😉 – Be patient and don’t lose heart!
Thanks for this. More Dust please, Warren!
Looks really interesting…So for a new player (who wants to get others involved too) – is the Dust Tactics core boxed set worthwhile or should I wait for starter sets and get mates to buy their own starters? Are the rulebooks the same? Do you get any extras by buying either? Are the starter units better in either? etc.
Or both ? (sensation of wallet beginning to singe)….
@draugadan
I am a Warfare player too, but I also enjoy Tactics. The “two games in one” aspect of Dust miniatures is one of its great selling points. You are right that this also creates some confusion among players (especially newbies).
For this interview, I assume the topic was restricted to Tactics because of legal reasons. Fantasy Fight Games still retains the rights to the Dust Warfare. (Although if you follow the conversations on the forum at http://www.dust-tactics.com, the consensus is that Battlefront Miniatures will eventually have the rights to both properties). Battlefront is also restricted from distributing units that were released prior to Wave 8 until Fantasy Flight sells through their stock of these units. Battlefront is doing a lot to support both games, including creating new statistics cards for Warfare and Tactics that come with each unit. They are also doing a lot to promote Dust to new players (like this interview). I think that both Dust games have a bright future. I bet we will see a Dust Warfare specific interview here in 2014 🙂
Our focus here at BoW will be on the new players for a while, we would however appreciate the support and participation of every existing player to help us reach out to and grow the player base 🙂
@monkeyreado
During the transition between Fantasy Flight Games and Battlefront Miniatures, new players will have a choice of entry points to Dust Tactics:
Fantasy Flight produced the Revised Core Set which contains everything two players need to get started. It includes 1 light walker, 1 hero, and 3 infantry units for the Allies and 1 light walker, 1 hero, and 3 infantry units for the Axis – all with statistics cards. It also includes two poster maps, six dice, cover and terrain elements, the rulebook and some scenarios to play.
The new Battlefront Starter Sets contain everything that one player needs to play. Each faction has its own starter box set. Each box contains, 1 hero, 1 medium walker, 2 infantry units, statistics cards, 1 battle mat, terrain and objective squares, rules and scenarios, and faction themed dice. You must have two of these starter sets to play.
In comparison, the Revised Core list price is $79.95 US. Battlefront Starters are about $50 US list according to the company representative on the forum at http://www.dust-tactics.com. However the dice, rules and statistics cards have all been updated for the new Starter Sets. New players who buy the Revised Core now will have to replace these obsolete components when the Battlefront products release. It seems to be more cost efficient to buy the new Starter Set.
If you just want a taste of the Dust Tactics experience, you and a friend should each buy one Battlefront Starter Set of different factions. You get better walkers with these than in the Revised Core Set, and you won’t need to buy anything else (unless you get hooked).
If you are already sold on playing either the Axis or Allies, buy the Revised Core Set while it is still available (you get a lot of stuff). If you also buy the Battlefront Starter for your faction, the heroes and walkers are different and the duplicate infantry will be useful anyway.
Either way, I bet you will want more once you start. Your wallet is going to singe; mine is on fire!
Dust is a great game. I cannot wait to see more coverage – particularly of Warfare.
And any sneak peaks of the desert models, Japanese, etc. would be GREAT.
