Games Workshop weren't done with the Grimdark Future of Warhammer 40,000 after both the Armageddon and 11th Edition reveals. We also got some new miniatures for the skirmish game, Kill Team! The Red Terror is back.

Spectre Squad #1 - Warhammer 40K Kill Team

Spectre Squad // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team

The first miniatures that you'll be able to get your hands on in the upcoming Terror on Devlan set are Spectre Squad. Spectre Squad are an elite team of Cadians who have been tasked with hunting down and taking out fast and deadly adversaries, going behind enemy lines and eliminating targets that the regular trooper wouldn't be able to handle.

Spectre Squad are always lightly armoured but come equipped with camouflage cloaks to help them move through battlefields and behind enemy lines unseen. They rely on ambushes and cunning tactics to take down their foes.

Spectre Squad #2 - Warhammer 40K Kill Team

Spectre Squad // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team

You'll see a good mix of weaponry that would be suited to the task, with a sniper variant of the lasgun in the mix as well as plenty of short, stubby versions of the lasgun, which are going to be good for those who don't want to be lugging around unwieldy weapons all the time.

Sometimes, an enemy requires more conventional firepower and that's where you can arm some of your troops with the likes of the autostubber or the plasma gun and meltagun combo. When things go really badly, that's where the missile launcher comes into play.

I think these miniatures look great and it's neat to see more specialists for the Astra Militarum. It does feel like a missed opportunity, though. I feel like these hunters would have been amazing if they'd been Catachans. Deadly hunters, sneaking around behind enemy lines, ambushing your foes. Feels very Catachan to me.

The Red Terror

So, what are Spectre Squad hunting? Well, that's where The Red Terror comes in. This iconic Tyranid from times gone by is back with a brand-new plastic miniature for use in Kill Team and Warhammer 40,000.

The Red Terror - Warhammer 40K Kill Team

The Red Terror // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team

The Red Terror is a Tyranid from codexes of old and now comes back with a new, deadly miniature, showing off the horror and destruction that it brings to the tabletop. Not only can The Red Terror vanish, burrowing down into the ground to escape its foes before appearing from nowhere, but it can also regenerate damage by consuming biomass from those that it kills and eats!

I think the miniature looks great and very cinematic. I particularly like it smashing its way through the world around it, rendering those pillars and statues into blocks of debris.

The Red Terror slots into Kill Team as another fun way for you to play the game, joining up to fight in a deadly boss encounter during Joint Ops missions. Terror on Devlan will set the stage for this but there will also be a new Kill Team: Nemesis Operatives book, which will offer up new ways for you to introduce boss encounters into your games.

Whether you’re looking to add some serious muscle to your kill team or whip up a deadly boss encounter for your Joint Ops missions, Kill Team: Nemesis Operatives has a tool for the job. This book provides commanders with a flexible set of rules to create their own nemesis operatives – generating characteristics, weapons, and abilities suitable for their own scenarios. They might even end up being allies.

If you're looking for ideas, Games Workshop has already mentioned that the Ambull and the mysterious Zoat, known only as The Archivist from Blackstone Fortress, will be making a return for use in Kill Team.

As with all of the Kill Team releases, they will eventually be available separately so that you can slot these miniatures into your games of Warhammer 40,000.

What do you make of this new expansion for Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team?
