Quite LOTR in style – interesting to see it’s a plastic mini
A cracking model and great to see it in plastic. Seems to be something of a theme with GW now following the plastic Nurgle Lord and Saurus Oldblood

This was a bit confusing I’m not sure why Darrell kept going on about using it as a BSB as there are 2 other BSB figures available and then there will be spare parts from Grave Guard to make a BSB. The two other BSBs are the really old and slightly naff finecast rerelease of the old BSB and a newer Forgeworld one which has a lovely banner. As for the comment about it being plastic and not finecast, GW have been putting out these plastic hero level characters for about a year now alongside finecast. They are far better than any other models out there because they are assembled in layers so can have holes in one layer that show another layer. Its my hope that as things go on Citadel will ditch traditional minis wether in finecast or metal or resin, and move to making all their characters this way.
Looks fantastic and is plastic. These are in my opinion, the future of Games Workshop character models for WHFB and, hopefully, WH40K.
I don’t play Vampire Counts but I want that model! Might just have to start an army….
The clamshell plastics are really good. I got this guy on Friday and built him straight away. They’ve been able to put so much detail by making them multi part. The big thing about them is the negative space in the model (there’s a big term for me). They are a unique thing that GW has but don’t really seem to push them as much as Finecast. odd
You have to like the plastics.

For the record (and to counteract anyone who says I always hate everything GW does on principle that they make it), I meant it when I say this is a very cool looking miniature… The new GW plastics are quite impressive. I wish they would do more of them !
I have a feeling that as time goes on, GW will ditch failcast in favour of all plastic figure ranges.
You may be right… Failcast is certainly a failure, and I do not doubt the GW people will want to compensate for that.
I’ve been buying up all the new clam-shell plastic heroes and I haven’t been disappointed with any of them. The Dark Elf Sorceress is particularly awesome. The paint job on the GW website does not do her justice at all…
It’s a very nice model. Still, 8 squids for one small sprue of plastic is a little OTT for my wallet.
This really is a beautiful sculpt. Plastic is so simple to convert, this could also be used as a very impresive vampire lord easily by doing a simple face swap..
Not too sure why they’re not taking advantage of the medium of plastic and allowing an extra limb or two on the sprue + a bit of freedom of modeling.
I don’t understand why Darrell said it went together with no problems, as it looks like it will need a bit of liquid green stuff on the back (cape) and probably other places.
You can’t get the level of detail in a plastic miniature as you can in resin/metal/finecast but GW, unlike any other company, really push the limits, probably because they’re designed on CAD or whatever, I’m guessing.
£8.00 though (£8.50 or £9.00 come June?).
GW have always been able to produce great multi-part plastic Lord characters for your army, and before the last prike-hike they were reasonably priced. See the Empire General for a classic example. Why are they ditching this for single-pose models?
I agree, they really could pop a few extra options in each pack easily, like AoW do in each of their hero kits. When you get extra options in a kit its easier to part with the cash at the checkout ;D
No doubt more options would had been nice. Still its rather nice figure even without options.
The holes in that cape. If theres one model that could have been made in finecast, this is it.
Seriously though it is a nice model I have one made up. It went together well the only issue was, as poosh pointed out the cape at the back. there is a gap which needs filling not quite as bad as on Darrells 😉
I like the way they have contructed the skull so you have this void it’s very effective.
Hopefully this is the direction GW are moving.

very awesome mini and made me think about starting vampires, on the bsb issue thats one thing undead really have no need for since all he offers you is -1 casulty from crumble, but when you can ress so easily your better spending the points elsewhere
I think it is a really great model as are most of the plastic lords/heroes for fantasy: one day hopefully they will all be done in plastic…
why…. less quality and detail.
You simply cannot get the level of detail or quality in plastic (even these superb computer generated plastic miniatures GW make, which really do push boundaries) that you can with metal or finecast (when quality control is actually applied), or certain resins. There’s a reason companies do not and will never (thank goodness) make everything in plastic. That’s the whole point of making metal miniatures – and searching for an alternative resin-like material – that can hold the detail that plastic cannot, but also has the “ease” of plastic.
I don’t want an £8 plastic model, when I could have got a £8 metal model with a superior level of detail. Plastic can achieve more laying, and the way plastic at GW is generated, you can create a host of options for plastic models with relative ease (which these models do not implement). But metal – and the alternatives to metal – will always achieve superior detail and sculpts which is great for painters and collectors – though gamers might not care so much, or painters with no skill or talent, who just want a simple model that looks good, which might be part of the purpose behind GW’s release of “simple” plastics.
I like the look of the heroes that come in the clam shell. This one I might get just to paint.
Love this miniature – so much actually that it recently replaced the Wight Lord I´ve been using in my army for the last 17 1/2 years 😉 And like someone said above, great for RPGs as well – looking for a Warrior Lich, Undying King or something similar? Look no further.
I can live with the price for this, because it is a miniature of appropiate quality. That, to me, is more important than the material it is made from. It also helps that it is a single model; if it were a unit like with the Cairn Wraith, things would be painful…
Still, I don´t see the point of using a BSB at all in a VC army, they really don´t need it. What little they gain from it is “nice”, but no more than that.
