Nice one, shall have to apply this to the Deathwatch marines I am working on. Grand as always Romain.
not sure if that marine is very supprised or has a ‘1000 yard’ stare
He has the “brainwashed” stare, as every Space Marine has…
But more seriously, he has the “I’ve been painted by someone who had, for the purposes of camera, paint away from himself, not seeing what he was doing properly” stare.
I agree the photo isn’t exactly flattering… But it shows the general idea and purpose of the tutorial.

But you got things nice and even also quite nicely painted models can fall into disrepute if they fall under the harsh glare of a light box and a close up. (Believe me I know too well.) But I am not a fan of the thousand yard ethier but it’s a good reason for it I mean they are dropped into pych depervation tanks house on haunted hill side and I can forgive anything with the aid of fluff. But yeah man great guide, you have insane hands like a surgeon; perhaps if the camera angels are a problem set… Read more »
Either one of the best typos I’ve seen in ages, or a bit of the background I’m not familiar with 🙂
“pych depervation tanks”
psych deprivation tanks, the fluff alludes to more than sensory deprivation, space marines are molded both mentally and psychically for there training..
Romain, thanks very much for the video, I do appreciate that painting on camera is very difficult and it was in no way a comment on your painting, it just so happened that the pic was kind of amusing 🙂
It is, and no offense taken… Don’t you worry !
I believe some other painter paint with a camera over their shoulder, but it’s highly impractical in the Studio.
Trust me on this one, we’re bringing you the best possible tutorials… Or at least the best we can, and they’re damn good compared to most, if I do say so myself !

That Bubba the winner of the galactic stareing contest. You better give him respect or he will never take his eyes off you.
awesome as always and another thing to try out…. my marines are happier too, no more shaving lol!!
” Mein Gott! Did you see the size of that tyranid???” cried the space marine as his eyes bulged.
Thank you everyone for your kind words… I quite like the blank stare of the space marine (they should have such a stare… I mean, they ARE brainwashed soldiers genetically engineered to kill and never ask questions…), but I should have blended things better on the forehead. I would have, if I had been at home… I will definitely apply myself more next time around. At least you do get the gist of the techniques used. I expect people to do better, of course ! And the photo just proves that we don’t cheat : we’re showing you exactly what… Read more »
Its OK Romain we still love you, BIG HUG!
Awesome, great help for a noob like myself.
Thanks Romain 🙂
Though I too think the eyes look a bit off, they *are* very neatly painted. I could never do that on such a small scale (I’m happy if I pull off a small white smear with a black dot somewhere)
great tut as always Romain
Ooh fantastic addition to the paint job Romano.
Great for the doom guy ?
