Super Dungeon Explore/ RPG 3d Hex Tile Project

About the Project
This is a spur of the moment idea that came about mostly from a bout of insanity and brilliance. I think. I came across a massive amount of old plaster terrain from a friend last month and after thinking what to do with all of this while I am cleaning, fixing and assembling, I decided to mostly use this for Super Dungeon Explore which I have a large collection that is on going as I recently got into it and so far, the two are going hand in hand. As far as terrain projects goes, this one is gonna be the most demanding and the heaviest.

Weeks 7+ March to May 2020
This is a long overdue update. The following have been taken between March of 2020 to May 2020. They mostly show the construction of the side “secret” passageway, and the completion of the front wall and the start of the outside area.
Weeks 7+ March to May 2020
This is a long overdue update. The following have been taken between March of 2020 to May 2020.
Weeks 5/6 Lots has Happened.
Area 4, the throne room, ate more material than I originally thought that I started to use foam, cut to proper height to continue making the throne room.
With Area 4 rapidly being built up, I began to lay out the walls that will make up the back secret cave way, area 5.Week 4: Catching Up.
Wow. This whole corona business had for a short while made the local internet unbearable and then the router took a turn for the worse but with that fixed, it is time to resume my weekly updates but a tad accelerated to catch up on lost time.
Area 3 has left quite a pile of things to do. 1. Paint the foam bases and 2. put the pieces in primer. These take a while to upload cause reasons so I will try to upload the other weeks as often as I can until I have caught up. So until next time.
Week Two: This is getting messy
As what can be guessed at by the title; working with plaster pieces is a messy affair. The liquid nails that is easy to rub off dries in the pores of my hands and fingers and the dust is getting everywhere; even with a vacuum attached to the band saw, it is still a messy affair.
I have found labels where these plaster pieces came from. When I tried looking on the internet, I get nothing related to this. I think the company folded after the dot com bust back in the early 2000s.
The build-up: Week One.
So apparently I have to upload 1-2 pics at a time or else for some reason, it won’t upload at all. Fair enough. I am also limited to 12 entries. Ok.
With that out of the way, let’s resume progress from what is now last week.
Last Monday, as can be seen here, I was in full swing in producing hex tiles to be trimmed, making gates and the half height hex pieces in general as wel.
Not bad for a days worth of work. Also, yay for bandsaws. Trimming the gate was made easy thanks to that. The beginnings
This project started off on the whim more than anything else. Back in December 2019, I was contacted by a friend who wanted to thin out his collection of plaster terrain dating back to the 90s from The Dwarves Stonecutter if I remember the labels correctly. I will change once I find another label.
Anyway, to tell a long story short, I have recently ended a massive project where I was making foam hexes using the hex terrain tool kit and after a single night of planning, I dove straight into the project.
The other contributing factor to this decision is my growing collection of chili or SD (super deformed) minis from Super Dungeon Explore. With the background explained, lets get into the details of this massive project!
The collection from the 1st edition starter and from Ninja Division's recent master class releases. Note, this is back in December this was taken.
Some testing to see if this could remotely work. Here are 4 of my finished heroes and some plaster pillars. I say it will work.
This MDF gauge is what is used to slice the hexes to their proper size. My plan is eventually to make stone walkways with grass on both sides and to do that, I need to see how tall the plaster walkways are when compared to the height of a half height hex. Close enough for my liking. Check 2.Next is one of the opening gateways for height and width testing. I say very good.
I also have several stairs where I plan to make stands that will allow these figures to climb stairs and not topple comically back down.
