Rise of the remotes

Corvus belli is not being my friend just now. They are getting me down with the whole plastics thing. After a bit of ignoring the world they sent samples to youtubers and influencers. What a great decision I thought, still not going to buy what they say. I would rather trust my own eyes and have them in hand. They *chose to send* substandard models. I would save asked for my money back or replacements from CB if I was sent these. You had the perfect opportunity to hand pick your samples… You picked samples with defects and sent these out instead… Needless to say I am now more concerned then ever over the longevity over a rule system and the quality of the products I chose to buy in the future.

This has also had a surprising effect in me painting a self contained game with the best metal models on the market. I have lost my mojo a little. Where once there was joy, now lives despair, uncertainty and unease.

So that above is just an excuse for not getting loads painted. I did however get the remotes painted. I did hear something I think it may have even been on OTT about these just being 3d tokens. ALL OF WARGAMING IS 3D TOKENS!!!! Yes they deserve their sculpts and I do like them. Much more of a pain in the arse to paint than I thought, but I always underestimate how much painting these little guys will take.

Billie - This is Jazz's remote cute little funko foxy thing. Adorable. This took a bit of time with the short blue white blend as well as the red. I do love Scarlett blood from game colour. It is the best of reds. Billie - This is Jazz's remote cute little funko foxy thing. Adorable. This took a bit of time with the short blue white blend as well as the red. Gaspar - This is Rahman's remote, not so cute but functional, this is the bot CB wishes to have around to get the plastic out of their arse when the time comes. Again this was very detailed to paint so small but perhaps more colours than in some full sized models. Duchess - This is Trisha's remote. I don't get the double hat thing but I have seen people in real life wear hats like this so it must be a thing. Lets call this the CB thinking hat they can wear while in the corner and think about what they are doing. Purple is nice to paint it's something I used to enjoy a lot, I will however resist spending money on Aleph just for now. Duchess - This is Trisha's remote. So that’s it for this salty update. Next up will be the Taigha Creatures if I can bring myself to paint them.

More to come, probably.

These all look excellent! Has rather taken away my enthusiasm to even start mine 🙂

Still waiting for my full pledge to arrive but this is a tonic 🙂 Great work as usual! I should probably be more impressed by other parts of the project but the texturing on Rahman’s trousers is just aces.

Regarding your concerns about the new plastics, have you had a chance to have a go with them? I’ve seen a few vids on youtube and the experience with the new plastics appears to be mixed. I do think it may help with the price of their larger minis going forward though. Looks like they might be angling to make bigger stuff. Perhaps only for boardgames. Also is the big villain in Defiance made from this stuff? I know it wasn’t metal but offhand I can’t think what they did use.

A friend of mine tried to biostrip some Warlord minis made using the same process and they came out ruined. I think Corvus use a different material but we’re a bit worried that may be a problem to come.

No problem at all on the length of your response, I appreciate your effort 🙂

It did take them a while to make their kits easier to assemble. Some of the old kits with separate antennae were pretty annoying. It also took them a while to produce easier to assemble parts and I think part of the change came from working with Chinese casters on A!. I guess I’m more hopeful their experience with products like A! will help them get this working reasonably quickly. That said I’ve not tried the material so I can’t say if it’s fundamentally flawed or less able to show some structures. Perhaps if they want something like a TAG with a sword they could cast the sword in metal and the rest in the new stuff? They still have the option to mix and match parts. Last I heard they’ll be sticking with metal casting for standard <= S2 figures and using this for remotes and bigger.

Good point on giving out some freebies though. I forget the name of the original producer of Carnevale but their Home Raiders kickstarter shipped with a figure for Fanhunter. I guess the remotes are the better choice for them to release first. Paying for a TAG cast in this material would garner some bad press if the cast is no good. It has come from out of the blue and maybe a KS campaign or a run of A! figures might have been the better way to start this. The A! alternate sculpts are quite pricy in metal so that could have been an avenue for some newer, cheaper runs.

I've seen some of the full pledge box piles for Defiance people have received and they're large! I'll have to claim I've bought some for others. Still excited for it though 🙂
