Terminate The Xenos In Combat With New Blood Angels
December 12, 2014 by brennon
Games Workshop have continued reinforcing the Blood Angels for Warhammer 40,000 this week with their new pre-orders. As well as the new Terminator Librarian they have their Assault Terminators tooled up with lightning claws ready to slice and dice...
Not bad miniatures at all in my opinion and I quite like the look of the Terminator Librarian in particular. The stance is cool and although a lot of people have problems with the look of so much terminator armour out there I think it's quite cool. I like the Force Axe as well, always fun to see an axe.
The Assault Terminators are alright but I really don't like the knuckleduster style lightning claws. I would have preferred to see them worked into the actual fist itself rather than sitting away from the knuckles. It looks like they'd break if you weren't careful.
As well as the actual miniatures there's another campaign supplement called Exterminatus. This rulebook gives you...
- The story of the final acts of war in the Cryptus System featuring the combined forces of the Blood Angels, Adepta Sororitas, Astra Militarum, and the Flesh Tearers versus the Tyranids of Hive Fleet Leviathan
- An explanation of how the Necrons of Cryptus awoke to lend their aid to the beleaguered world along with the fleet of Anrakyr the Traveller
- Example armies that took part in the climax of the campaign
- Background of the heroes and famous regiments of the campaign
- Stunning new artwork that brings the background to life and illustrates the regions of space around Cryptus
Do you think you'll be picking up this sourcebook to help with your fight between the Blood Angels and the Tyranids?
Let us know!

Those are rather nice but nothing special. I don’t really like those knuckle Power Claws.
What’s with GW and modelling their characters with bad wargear options?
A Combi-Melta, on a librarian? I mean it’s always nice to have some Melta handy, but why waste points on a one-shot when you could take Melta Bombs, or just keep the Librarian away from enemy armour, where he’s actually useful? If you really must spend an extra few points on a Librarian, then a Storm Shield would be the most useful thing for him, since he’s otherwise relying on the 5++ from his Terminator Armour, and being the type of Dangerous Bastard that psykers are in the current edition, he’s going to be targeted with low AP weapons.
The BA Termie Captain had an odd combination also, the Thunder Hammer and Storm Bolter, while not “bad”, aren’t optimal for the typical role of a captain as a CC badass. Ideally he should have swapped the SB for a Storm Shield, or swapped the lot for Lightning Claws, or something.
The regular plastic captain also has a Combi-Grav and Power Sword. Why model him with a one handed melee weapon if he doesn’t have a CCW/pistol to get the extra attack? If he must have a combi-weapon, then at least swap the PW for a Lightning Claw, where shred would make up for the lack of an extra attack.
I totally understand why Special Characters get the equipment that they do, as their total attacks, etc, are factored into the points cost, and they are [theoretically] balanced as a result. However generic characters, who are balanced/costed around their potential for specialisation really need to have good wargear to be worthwhile. If new players are getting HQs with silly wargear it’s going to hurt their chances of winning games, and possibly spoil their fun, which doesn’t fit with the ethos of making it easier for them to get into the game. Ideally these character models should come with wargear that helps them fulfil a particular role.
I find this new Lib scupt nice looking but really too plastic. Plastic is an inferior material when making decent miniatures but GW have managed to do a lot better than this with plastic. The BA Terminator Captain in the Campaign box is worse, the details are not much better than the plastic Warhammer Quest models they made over ten years ago. The new broodlord is also dubious in quality, feeling much more basic than than the standard GW have shown they can produce with plastics. The depth of detail is always going to be less than metal and resin, but GW have shown they can put up a good fight with plastic – these recent character models are just not showing it.
In addition the poses of both Terminator characters seem slightly off.
What’s that little device that comes on a 25mm base with the terminators, I’m sure I’ve seen something like it before but can’t place it.
IIRC that’s Teleport Homer.
they look like playmobil to my eyes…
I don’t want to rise some angher ..
I’m okay with the librarian termi but those assault termis have the problem of having their legs, body and head already attached so posing them in interesting dynamic poses is pretty much impossible unless you are a master at converting, I hope that not all future GW kits will be like this otherwise all models will look the same no matter what.
With the Wolf termi kit in Stormclaw (which is the normal kit) you could have a varied amount of poses, this kit its terminator 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
