Celebrate The Fellowship Of The Ring With Classic Made To Order Kits
February 6, 2026 by brennon
Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the immense trilogy with some Made To Order miniatures, looking back at the classic range from Games Workshop. Returning heroes, villains AND terrain are going to be available soon.
Attack at Weathertop // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
We start with the miniatures that I am almost definitely going to be picking up. Attack at Weathertop is one of the initial metal sets released for The Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game back in the day. It features the Hobbits, Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin, armed with their barrow blades, hoping to hold off the terrifying Ringwraiths led by the Witch-king himself.
This set also comes with Strider, leaping into the fray with his flaming brand in hand. You also get the fire that the Hobbits have set, giving you a chance to hold off the evil servants of Sauron as they seek to claim The One Ring.
To really set the scene, you can also get The Ruined Watchtower of Amon-Sul!

This immense terrain kit measures sixteen inches across and is meticulously designed to look like the set from the film. Weathertop should (of course) be a lot less impressive according to the books but who cares when you've got something as awesome as this to play your games in. It's likely to cost you a pretty penny, though.
Form The Fellowship!
Moving on, we head to Rivendell, where the Fellowship is formed. You can also pick up the classic, metal Fellowship of the Ring for use during your encounters!

The set comes with some glorious depictions of the different characters. You get the whole crew from Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin through to Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas and Boromir. I had this set when it first came out and I still adore it now. I've repainted it more times than I can remember but it's still excellent and I've got it sitting on my shelf in pride of place!
Find The Halflings!
The above set will be great for your encounters in Balin's Tomb but this next set is set up for your final encounter of the first movie. Survive the Ambush at Amon-Hen with this returning metal set.
Ambush At Amon-Hen // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
This set comes with the Three Hunters themselves, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, fighting their way through waves of Uruk-hai in a valiant attempt to save the Hobbits and Boromir. Talking of Boromir, you get the fated hero on his knees, arrows stuck fast, even as he tries to rise once more to defend Merry and Pippin.
The enemies in the set consist of a different sculpt for Lurtz, three Uruk-hai Scouts and then two Uruks carrying Merry and Pippin away to be delivered to Saruman. I am genuinely getting emotional writing about the Boromir scene...
If you want to really set the scene, you can also get the impressive Seeing Seat at Amon-Hen.
The Seeing Seat at Amon-Hen // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
Another impressive resin terrain set showing the Seeing Seat that Frodo finds some refuge at before being confronted by Aragorn and making his decision to leave the Fellowship with Samwise. I cannot wait to see someone get this and add Aragorn to the top, holding off hordes of Uruk-hai. A glorious setting for an immense fight to cap off your Fellowship of the Ring gaming day.
Let's Hunt Some Orc!
Last but not least, you can also get your hands on the original Three Hunters metal set (that has since been replaced by a plastic one).
The Three Hunters // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
This comes with the tireless hunters, Gimli, Legolas (complete with wonky arrow) and Aragorn, as they cross into the lands of the Rohirrim in search of Merry and Pippin, eager not leave them to their fate. You get glorious miniatures for each of the three characters before they finally meet up with the Men of Rohan and become embroiled in their troubles.
It's great to see these miniature and terrain sets returning. With it being Made to Order, there's also no chance of you missing out on these. I will definitely get the Weathertop and Amon-Hen sets when these hit the Games Workshop webstore.
What do you make of these classic miniatures?

Classic. Had all of these back in the day, missed the Seat kit. Probably will grab all of them!
Nice stuff from the way back when times. But I think those will be pricey.
If it’s anything like the rest of the MESBG range, it’s usually quite reasonable. The terrain is another thing entirely though
Weathertop was around $500 Canadian back then … it’s massive. Also, a bit of a bad design, as 25mm bases don’t fit around the ring area on the outside. But the inside is okay to use.
Coming “early March”. This week’s made to order are vintage Space Marines.
