Games Workshop also dropped a massive amount of reveals and new miniatures for the Cities of Sigmar of Warhammer Age of Sigmar! A new Battletome is on the way BUT we start off with a new Spearhead set that caters for both the Cities of Sigmar AND Clan Eshin of the Skaven.

Spearhead City of Ash - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Spearhead: City of Ash // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Spearhead: City of Ash takes place in the ruins of Embergard, where the Skaven burst forth to threaten the Mortal Realms. The beleagured forces of the Cities of Sigmar are going to be getting a new Spearhead made of all-new miniatures, ready to try and hold the Skaven at bay.

Sentinels of Embergard - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Sentinels of Embergard // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

The Sentinels of Embergard are going to be led by the Ranger-Colonel Jorven Kreel, Heir of the Kraken and a warrior who was once part of Anvilgard's forces before the city was taken by the Daughters of Khaine and Mortahi-Khaine. He now leads some of the brand-new figures for the Cities of Sigmar, the elite Freeguild Gallants and the Freeguild Grenadiers. They are then backed up by the Mallus Forgepriest, who will keep your force fighting through whatever hardship awaits.

Arrayed against them, you also have Crixxit's Kill-Pack, which showcases the brand-new miniatures for Clan Eshin and the Skaven.

Crixxits Kill-Pack - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Crixxit's Kill-Pack // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

This Spearhead is led by Deathmaster Crixxit, a new named character for you to use in your games. He is then backed up by another Deathmaster but also some absolutely stunning new updates for the Night Runners and Gutter Runners. You get ten of each of them in the set. They have FINALLY been updated, meaning that those horrible old Skaven will get put out to pasture!

Oh, and you also get two bomb rats, which are no doubt going to do something terrible when they explode. I think these Clan Eshin miniatures look absolutely gorgeous and they are going to be making their way into my collection.

As with previous Spearhead sets, this will give you everything you need for playing this mode of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. You'll get the game rules, battlepacks for new missions, some great new plastic ruined terrain, a city-themed double-sided board and an introductory handbook. A great new starting point or way to expand your collection.

Even More For Cities Of Sigmar!

As well as the new Spearhead set and the new Skaven, you will also see a lot of people gushing over the new Cities of Sigmar releases coming to support their Battletome.

Battletome Cities of Sigmar - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Battletome: Cities of Sigmar // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

We start with what I think a lot of folks have been waiting for. The Cogforts of the Cities of Sigmar are some impressive, walking bastions that you can use to make sure that your Dawnbringer Crusade succeeds. Why not start off by bombarding your enemies from afar with the Cannonade Cogfort?

Cannonade Cogfort - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Cannonade Cogfort // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

This is an impressive walking ranged option for the Cities of Sigmar, laying down endless firepower with the Godbreaker Cannon. That should be enough to put a hole in any monstrous creature that threatens your city. That comes backed up by soldiers manning a series of guns around the side, keeping the enemy off your lumbering construct.

If you'd prefer to deal some damage from nearer to your enemy, then you can also get the Conqueror Cogforts with the Realmscorcher Flame Cannon!

Conqueror Cogfort - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Conqueror Cogfort // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

The Conqueror also comes with enough room inside for you to put a unit of your elite troops. This unit can then be disgorged onto the tabletop through a gate on the front. Burn your enemies alive and then, whilst they flail around, send out your elite troops to cut them down and deliver the final blow.

Both of the Cogfort kits also come with some great miniatures representing the crew. I think they look awesome and will no doubt be snapped up and used to represent various command figures amongst the ranks of the Cities of Sigmar.

New Cities of Sigmar Characters

The Cities of Sigmar have also been graced by some new characters. A lot of the old wizards have been replaced for one!

Erasmus Zonn - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Erasmus Zonn // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Erasmus Zonn leads the way. He is a human who has joined the ranks of White College, taught by the Lumineth Realm-lords in Settler's Gain. He has alarmed his Lumineth teachers, however, as he seeks more and more dangerous artefacts and magical secrets from the edge of the realms. I'm sure that this will all end swimmingly.

The Collegiate Battlemages have also been updated with the likes of the Aqshian Pyrocaster and the Amethyst Knellmage.

Aqshian Pyrocaster - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Aqshian Pyrocaster // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

The Pyrocaster is an excellent new miniature representing your classic Fire Wizard of old. She looks like she would kill as many of his own troops as he would his enemies! She is joined by the Amethyst Knellmage, harnessing the power of Death to crush their enemies.

Amethyst Knellmage - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Amethyst Knellmage // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Yes, this fellow has all of the hallmarks of a Death Wizard of old. They have the scythe, the strange chill of death magic about them and skulls festooned across their attire. I think the helmet looks brilliant. A strange bell with two clockwork skeletons that constantly toll with their miniature hammers. No wonder they look so weird as the ringing drowns out the sound of the spirits around them.

Another of the new basic characters is the introduction of the Mallus Forgepriest.

Mallus Forgepriest - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Mallus Forgepriest // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

The Mallus Forgepriests carry forth the pride in Sigmar, bellowing out hymns to the god-king. They can ward their companions as they march into battle and when push comes to shove, smash aside their foes with their meteoric warhammers. Classic Warrior Priests of old!

Last but not least, we have Jorvan Kreel who is the leader of the Spearhead that we saw at the start of this post.

Jorvan Kreel - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Jorvan Kreel // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Kreel was a defender of Anvilguard before it was overrun by Sigmar's "ally", Morathi-khaine. He now joins the Wildercorps, hunting down foes of Sigmar across the realms, accompanied by the ash panther companion, Thexa. He is seeking to get some revenge against the Daughters of Khaine at some point, with the ultimate goal of retaking Anvilgard eventually!

Elite Troops & Gargants!

As well as all of this, we have more! There are also some more elite troops in the form of the Freeguild Gallants and the Freeguild Grenadiers.

Freeguild Gallants - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Freeguild Gallants // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

The Freeguild Gallants are noble knights who don't fight on horseback like the Cavaliers. Instead, they slog it on foot with the rest of the troops. They are big, clanking, heavily armoured warriors that would be great to transport in a Cogfort! They have plenty of ways for you to personalise them, changing their heads, weapons, arms and armour. They can also be kitbashed with the Cavaliers, so you can make plenty of unique knights.

The Freeguild Grenadiers are then a step up from your standard Steelhelms.

Freeguild Grenadiers - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Freeguild Grenadiers //  Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Grenadiers are elite soldiers, chosen for their size and brawn, who are then given a range of deadly weaponry for carving through your foes. They can get their hands on blackpowder weapons like the ruin-sweepers and the terrifying cindergout "flamethrower". You also have some warriors armed with heavy bardiche, just what you need for scything down more heavily armoured foes.

Last but not least, we have the Gate Gargants who are a great defensive option for the Cities of Sigmar whilst on crusade.

Gate Gargants - Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Gate Gargants // Warhammer Age of Sigmar

The Gate Gargants attract all the attention with their massive shields and Gargant-level profiles. They then also move aside, "opening the gates", so that the likes of Freeguild Cavaliers can sally forth and crash through ranks of the enemy. They are backed up by gunners on their backs who will mow down your enemies with their scattershot cannons.

That's quite a lot. All of this will be coming out alongside the Battletome we showed off above, giving you an idea of the direction that the Cities of Sigmar are going in.

Are you tempted by these new miniatures?
