Core Space Purge Outbreak Expansion Now Available
June 18, 2019 by brennon
Battle Systems has now released a new expansion for Core Space called Purge: Outbreak which gives you new adventures to take on and foes to face.
This new expansion comes with more options for the deadly Purge with the addition of the Gatherers and Annihilators. You don't want to be running into them when you're chasing around looking for loot!
As well as these new miniatures you'll also find a set of difficult and thrilling new missions. Event Cards also mean that you can then add them into your normal games too, a terrifying threat that lies within the deck just waiting to spring a trap on you!
You'll also find new terrain options in the set featuring living biomass which is threatening to take over installations and ships. New equipment like Mother's Venom also helps with making sure that your crew survive against the threat posed by the Purge.
This seems like another great set which takes you deeper into Core Space and stories you can tell with this game. You will need the Core Space Core Set in order for this expansion to be playable so it's worth checking that out too.
Will you be adding this to your Core Space collection?

looks a great new threat to players.
Well I was lucky and got into backing the KS (so I already have these), but for gamers who bought the main game at retail….
If the Harvesters haven’t taught you to RUN, these will
The Mother (the Spiderlike thingy with the little spiderlings) if it gets into contact with a downed trader will kill that trader dead (no save rolls, no transport out of there). And the Annihilator is awfully good at making traders….downed (so don’t use both in the same game unless you want to see a wipeout of all the traders on the board).
But if in doubt, RUN AWAY!!!!!!
Looks great.
I’m very interested in the game, is it good?
Well I think it’s good. It’s a lightweight game that comes into it’s own with 2 or more players. Unlike most KS games these days the rules were in design for a number of years (and thus a lot better than the usual fare these days which is a substandard set of rules to push the sale of the minis).
There’s a fair few “Let’s Play” videos here on BoW if you are thinking about getting into the game. It’s a bit pricey however but that’s due to the cardboard terrain that comes with the game. The minis are “fair” (better than your average boardgame minis, but not going to astound everyone). But I really like the aesthetic of the game and think the overall look of the minis and the purge look excellent.
The retail version only comes with two crews and there’s a six mission campaign (although Battle Systems have a “Mission Monday” and give free PDFs with a mission most weeks), the extra crews come with card bits for the dashboards, and a mission of two specific to them so you can expand your game (one really nice feature is all the crews have a Civilian stats on the reverse, so any Traders your not using in the game are still on the table populating the board (and getting eaten by the Purge).
Some have found the rules a bit hard going as they feature a LOT of icons (although that’s the issue with a lot of games these days as designers try and make it easy for the rules and components to be easily translated into other languages).
But there’s also some assets for graphics programs to allow you to design and publish your own scenarios over at the Battle Systems website.
If you move fast however, there a few KS Ships crews left in the clearance section (without any retail packaging and you’ll need the PDF for the mission rather than the hard copy you’ll get with the retail version). But I think it’s worst a buy for playing down at the club with a group of friends.
The only negative I could say about the game is the set up time (assembling all the terrain on the table), as this can take 20-30 mins.
Thanks for the answer.
Nice, good to see. The game wasn’t and still isn’t for me as I don’t like the aesthetic or all the tokens that go with it. But it is good to see Battle Systems building up this IP as all to often these sort of releases are one-hit wonders. Good luck to them.
I have only had the one game so far but discovered that your traders are kinda vulnerable against the standard enemies, so these are going to be a stiff challenge.
Nice minis too, BS did a great job on this game.
little babies aren’t they cute 🙂
