First ! What’s this , XLBS at 10 pm my time on Saturday night ? After just finished watching today’s Weekender an hour ago ( Family stuff interferes with hobby ) , I get to spend the rest of my evening with the BOW crew . That’s the stuff dreams ( and nightmares ) are made of
Happy Sunday!!
Happy Sunday!!
Will the Project notifications say “Hi SomeoneElse…” (SomeoneElse being the commenter) like ordinary update notifications? ;-P
Fantastic XLBS – thanks guys 🙂
@dignity Yes please, Justin! Doing a Who Goes There let’s play on live stream, would be absolutely awesome. We would all sit at home chatting about who we think ‘are It’, coming up with very inappropriate comments to who’s sleeping together (if I know the regular stream crowd :p ), and just enjoy watching the mechanics of the game. I do really believe this game is well suited for live streaming. Also…very sad I missed the kickstarter on this one.
I love the idea about a rpg living campaign thingy. Will definitely join in on that if I can. Maybe, bring in some hobby time as well perhaps. There’s bound to be people out there, that for various reasons, can’t join in on online gaming sessions…maybe they could join by painting up some minies or something, for the various guilds (if you go down that route) or races etc. I think GW does something like that for some of their campaigns. So even if you can’t join in on one of their battles, you can still help your side by painting minies (also, clever marketing strategy to get more minies sold, I know). But in our case, it could bring in even more people to the event.
Enjoy your sunday everyone 🙂
@dracs: I think the term you were grasping for is ‘homaged’, and Doctor Who probably did it more than three times; didn’t Troughton do at least one entire season of the ‘base under siege’ plot? ?
I think I speak for everyone when I say Warren and Justin sleeping together is a double entendres we could’ve all done without. ?
If McReady has lots of booze, shouldn’t that kill him off quicker out in the cold? ?
The late replies are very hurtful Sam, it make us all feel like you don’t care about us, *sniff, sniff* ?
?
So Ben is the Wil Wheaton of card games? ?
“I’m not painting fuck all” – so you are going to be painting horses @warzan ?
?
Wait, Warren was 12 in ‘88? I wouldn’t have pegged him as that old – at the very least he doesn’t look that old. ?
I am certainly the Wheaton of card games. Holding up the bottom of the table.
Maybe you need to negotiate with his agent to get him to do a let’s play with you in some game to see who can out Wheaton the other. ?
I would say happy Sunday but I am having streaming issues, that means I am going to have to get up before I am watch the XLBS on another device…grrrr bloody internet
Me too I still have last half hour of show as It streams ok for 10 mins and then whole screen freezes and get circle of death, so I’ve been getting the show in 10 min instalments twice a day.
Happy weekend one n all 🙂
HAPPY SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@warzan i am glad I made one of your game moments. In my defence I was not wearing my great coat, I only brought that to the Team Yankee bootcamp..lol
I will have to buy Alessio a beer as an apology in September ???
And then tell him why you like Chain of Command more……
What I actually said to Alessio was have you ever played Chain of Command it’s a better rules system, I didn’t know at the time he wrote Bolt Action…I never actually said BA was shit…I am older and a bit more knowledgeable about things now ?
So this RPG campaign thingie sounds like a sort of paper and pen version of an MMO computer game, except, of course, using a computer system to aggregate the results.
That post credit scene had me laughing so hard…
The look of pain on Justin’s face, Dude I feel your pain.
I’m amazed @dignity was able to take part in XLBS after that…..
Happy Sunday folks
I’m with Warren. Nothing focuses the creative juices like thrash metal.
@warzan. You have to write that Egypt storyline down for us! Awesome!
Great show guys!
Lol Justin the Office welcome wagon ?
That surprise Mindmelter / Game Design Challenge was hilarious. But it might actually work as a game. Games that ancient haven’t been done much outside of the strictly historical.
You might offend a few groups though, depending on how you handle this.
lol Offending folk has become an unintended speciality of mine over the years 😉
@warzan it seems I also have a talent for that too ???
The who goes their game sound’s good.
Well if all the Egyptian technology is real then Imotepe could have armies off zombies @warzan
I’m liking the new post-credits segment. Do the main show, give all features their due, then throw in some extra BS on the end that eventually kinda links into something hobby related. I like it!
What a great show today. It’s even better that you all did that show just for me today as it’s my birthday today!
Happy Sunday… though it’s 1am Monday here ?
I would be keen as to join in a campaign like the RPG style idea suggested. This last year has been one of my better gaming years, in part because of DnD and the regular group of friends that meet up.
I like the discussion @warzan had about horror gaming. It could work well for an RPG, where the players start in a relatively normal scenario and slowly the GM dials up the tension…
Cats ARE great, aren’t they! ?
Has BoW ever considered moving down to Holywood. It might be a more apt location for your historical musings
Don’t be silly…BoW aren’t anywhere near historically accurate enough for Hollywood.
?
Luckily they are paid to hear Warren’s mind-melter. I would quit after 5min. Come to the point 😉
Happy Sunday! Really enjoyed this one, thanks guys!
The Egyptian segment at the end was hilarious, @warzan needs to make some spoof history documentary videos, lol…his take on history…
@warzan most of your mind melters are just daft but I’m totally behind your idea of weird biblical wars!
Do it!
@warzan took your advice man and have now split my project into separate entries for each horse colour.
As you said, it will enable people to comment on each colour recipe separately.
Glad you guys liked it though, really appreciate the community spotlight button
I’m in as a GM on the campaign. Love to idear and would love to hear more, also system agnostic I feal would be the way to go.
Happy Sunday all! Another great show.
On horror movie techniques, another great one is the “weird thing in the background of a mundane scene”. I can’t think what the proper name might be! I think it’s exorcist 3 again that has a scene like that, where it’s a normal day-room for patients. Everything starts out normal, and you follow the characters into the room, and at first glance, it just seems normal. Then you realise there is a possessed woman crawling across the ceiling, but basically, everyone ignores her, because no one is looking up and the actual scene is playing out as normal. It’s not a jump-scare, so much as just uber-creepy.
Another good one is in a Japanese horror movie about an apartment where a child was drowned. This woman and her daughter move in and are haunted throughout the film by the ghost of this drowned child. Then there is this scene where the mother has been bathing her daughter and gets attacked. She is wrestling with the ghost and tries to force it under the water in the bath, and runs off with her daughter held over her shoulder. She gets to the elevator and is slamming the button to get the doors closed. She then see’s her daughter stumble out of the open door of the apartment, covered in water and looking for her. She, and the viewer, at this point, realises she is holding the monster child that has been haunting them the whole time.
Who goes there looks awesome, I would indeed love to see a live stream of that, or a proper let’s play. Looks like it would be super-tense.
Played quite a bit of AoS:Champions this week, played a couple of games earlier today. The mulligan discussions has come up, but it seems the standard starter set are more vulnerable to the problem. I am not sure at this stage (given how a lot of the quests work for getting your blessings) if it makes sense to really have a mix of 3+ unit types in a single deck, as it seems the starter sets typically have. The ones we have been playing with as well also start with <20pt maximum hero allowance, which might be influencing things a lot. Since some good Heroic Acts that you have available at all times might well also mitigate that dodgy initial card-draw. Justin has a point as well, that the lack of insta-death cards, means you might not be on the back-foot for that long. Still, I think as a house-rule it's not going to hurt. We are planning on picking up a full box of boosters and running a deck construction and game-day with a few friends in a couple of weeks time. We are blocked at the minute as it looks like most places have run out of the full boxes of boosters. Apparently, they've sold 10,000,000 cards in 6 days, or something crazy like that. They are currently printing the 2nd run now.
I actually quite like the idea of Weird Biblical Wars, sticking to the core concept of there being nothing supernatural, but a lot of apparently supernatural biblical events are actually the result of "mad ancient science", and making those key unit might be quite cool. I actually loved "Too Human" lore, the video-game that basically posited that all the Norse myths are to-do with a super-advanced alien war (not entirely unlike Marvel universe, but really does it as high sci-fi, not sci-fi that looks like magic). I also enjoyed (guilty pleasure) the God's of Egypt movie, which in some places made it like the Gods were really just individuals gifted with super-tech, almost anime-style mecha-suits for fighting and super abilities.
Good afternoon ~ great show! Hey, ah … small suggestion? Hope? Request?
I dunno, maybe you guys were kidding …
Can we please forego the idea of pyramids at the Bolt Action Boot Camp?
No battle got within 160 miles of a pyramid.
Also, a pyramid at 28mm wouldn’t fit in on a table (each side would be about 10-13 feet along its base).
Now, ancient Roman or Ptolemic ruins (crumbling columns, etc) along a road running through a desert oasis, now that’s something I could get behind!
Well the last BA bootcamp ended with a Mars Attacks game
This is true. I guess for the “Free Gaming” segment, all bets are off! We’re getting together a few people for a what shaping up to be pretty serious desert-themed battle of Panzer Leader for that time slot. 😀
Definitely I have been talking to Gerry and Mick about having a bash at Gangs of Rome in that slot 🙂
Damn it … gaming with Gerry and Mick? I think my Panzer Leader just got a little smaller – just on the “celebrity status” alone. 😀
I’ve volunteered to play Justin’s new game, ‘Who goes there’ I think I can develop the right amount of nervous twitch!
Happy sunday!
Wonderful Banter this weekend! Good work!
cuchullen kicked the bollox out of Egyptians…….
Warren, check out Crocodile Games and Wargods of Aegyptus.
You’ll love the models I’m sure
Savage World is great – been Role Playing with these rules for over five years now. Really enjoying this Rule system and it is very flexible. I am currently using the Dark Hold Savage World scenario setting with everyone playing Goblins – lots of fun!!
If Warren ever writes a book it will entitled, “A Very Seriously Revised History of the Ancient World.” Waterstones will stock it in their Comedy Section.
There was… like another episode at the end.. lol! Pyramids!
