Happy new year/ happy sunday
Happy Sunday 2017
Happy Sunday!
Why do you always select Boot camp dates that I can’t make? One day…. or two or three… I’ll be able to make one of these. I’m surprised BoW hasn’t melted under the demand!
Bear in mind what we discussed last year?
2017 might be the year we’ve been preparing for as gamers. When world order breaks down, WW3 goes hot, Putin releases his Zombie virus and the alien invaders finally decide that this year is a ripe time to attack… WE’LL BE PREPARED like good little Cubs and Brownies.
Keep preparing for all scenarios, gamers – we’re humankind’s best hope!
(S#!t we’re f***ed! 😉 )
Happy Sunday
Justin go to the local toy shop and buy some silly putty it can be used again and again and can be easily molded in and around various details.
Thats a good idea!
Blue tak works as well
I use blue tac
Or white tac, the white tac has no oil inside so won’t leave a mark should you not remove the mask for a while..
I use it all the time, and you can be amazingly precise with it.
I’ve got to defend the cling wrap idea @warzan suggested though. I’m 85% sure I saw a painting video with Angel or another Corvus Belli painter using it to mask/protect an area while they painted an arm. The benefit to using the cling wrap is that it’s easy to remove without marring the surface of the model. Liquid mask and masking tapes have to be applied to a completely dried surface, or else you risk peeling back some of the paint. Cling film just rests on the surface without adhesive, so it’s less likely to damage all that hard work, and you can work rather quickly without much wait between colors.
And low-tack masking tape like blue painters tape. I even save on tape by using strips of newspaper to wrap around parts and the small pieces of tape to hold them in place.
Happy Sunday!!
I have to agree that liquid mask is a pain to work with. Get several ‘eggs’ of silly putty. It’s easy to mold into the areas you want to mask, and comes off easily without harming your paint.
Happy Sunday 😀
Looking forward to watching through this, it seems like it has been awhile even though the break was almost non-existent.
Poor Justin at the start of this right off the bat he can’t get a break come out of the gates swinging guys :O Jeeeeez!
Also I think you guys shouldn’t bleep on this show how many non adult people are watching and those who are I would think know what it is all about if you going to go there.
Welcome back and I look forward to seeing more from you thoughout the year 😀
Justin, your face when you ate the sake kitkat was definitely worth the postage. Next time, I’m sending wasabi flavour!
Warren, that Star Wars cloth is a traditional wrap that Japanese people use to carry stuff, like lunch boxes etc. A lot of them have fantastic designs so I just use them as wall hangings. A local store does a bunch of Star Wars ones that have been combined with Japanese art. I have a Millennium Falcon one hanging on my wall.
Ok, has anyone pointed out yet that @warzan displays a distressing perception of anatomy when he calls the Sisters of Silence from Burning of Prospero a Space Wolf/ Thousand Sons upgrade sprue 😀
lol
Out of practice mate 😉 (On the sprues I mean ofcourse!!!)
nope, @warzan saw the space wolves for what they are : a bunch of little girls … :-p
No secret thoughts of Ben? Although most of them would be “Dwarf” and “Not Dwarf” I guess.
Great show as always guys. Ben for sorting tokens for games, I use Fishing Tackle box inserts. Some tackle boxes have interchangable trays. Here in the states a company called Plano makes a great line of these. Well they sell the trays separately. The spaces inside have some customization with where you place the dividers making them perfect for tokens and such. They work really well for straightening out my Super Dungeon Explore stuff. Hope this helps.
Will have to check those out too – thanks @rgreenparadox 🙂
Great show guys! Glad to have you back!!!
Super excited about the 30k content! I have the Burning of Prospero set, and will be making a Space Wolves Legion force, seeing as they are my main GW love! I believe the rules for them are not available yet until the next book that Forgeworld releases! I dont know much about the 30k game wise so might be wrong.
I would love to build my force along with you guys!
I hope I will get on next Bootcamp ( *cogh Wolsung)
Morning folks
@warzan I’m also on the diet and fitness regime due to being told by the doc to loose 15kg. So my plan is to loose it and get in shape by December this year. So part of that plan is to take up a new sport, which is badminton, mainly because my wife use to play competitively and so is acting as my coach, my first session dam near killed me lol
I recently gave up drinking lattes and replaced them with green tea after discovering that there are an average 6-800 calories in an average latte…also kicked bread from my diet as well
If you want to lose weight, @warzan, try the kebab shop near me. You’ll lose half a stone in 90 minutes!
Happy Sunday (for first time in 2017) ….sigh …I missed you blokes
Justin I am proud of you you finally started cracking airbrush but as warren say start reading that book, it will save you much time effort and will quickly boost your skills, its brilliant full of great tips, and with all knowledge from that book you can really start experimenting @dignity.
I’m in! I shall play the glorious british 😛 (heck that was a hard choice as I want both armies:P)
You guys should go for the might IV legion the iron warriors vs those yellow freaks the Imperial fists!!
@warzan when building the mkiii marines in the burning of prospero box set (I assume John will be building them) make sure you follow the instructions for the powerplant backpacks because they come in two parts. And the ten backpacks you get on each sprue builds you two styles, style A and style B. If you mix the parts from A’s with B’s the details won’t match up, you won’t believe the amount of people I’ve seen who didn’t follow the instructions to only find once they have built the guys that the backpacks don’t match. I’m sure you (John) will see when you (John) build the kit.
The books you’ll need for games of Horus heresy partly depends on what legions you wish to play. But you’ll definitely need:
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/The-Horus-heresy-legiones-Astartes-Age-of-Darkness-Army-List
This will give you the basic army lists for all non generic legion troops, vehicles and wargear. So basically everything. But depending on what legions you wish to use depends on the next books, if you want to go for thousand sons and space wolves I would wait for the next big black heresy book, book 7? I believe, that should be coming soon. If not those two legions then you will be wanting:
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/The-Horus-Heresy-Legiones-Astartes-Age-of-Darkness-Legions
It will then allow you to add in legion specific characters and units which really add the flavour to your legions.
Also don’t forget there’s more to the heresy than just marines. I know you’ve got a mountain of Imperial guard models. You could even do a imperial militia army:
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/The-Horus-Heresy-Crusade-Imperialis-Army-Lists
But I hope this helps you guys out a little bit
As I type there are two tickets each left for Axis and Allies. That’s very impressive, fellow Backstagers!
I’m not available for this one but did have a nosey at the “getting here” bit of your info pack. I’ll get over one day, you see if I don’t!
On masking and airbrushing. Removing liquid mask can be a bit of a pain, I generally only use it on parts where it can be peeled off easily. Using blu-tak to remove it helps a lot.
I typically try to avoid masking altogether as it is so time consuming. Often you can plan your paint job so that you don’t need to mask or just do very rough masking with tape, putty or film. As a bonus, being lazy on masking tends to improve one’s airbrush control 😉
Happy Sunday, I have to admit for the first ten minutes or so I thought Ben was on mute as you two got into some deep discussion and was wondering what elevator song goes through his mind when you two do that hehe. Poor Holly………I mean Ben.
@dignity great start on those Trollbloods and a nice colour choice. I am interested to see what colour armour and cloths you now do to compliment it.
@warzan maybe Roswell was a captured Horten Go 229 being tested that had lost its wings in the crash. It was way ahead of its time and they wouldn’t have wanted Germany to know they had one or something similar. It could explain where the US got their design for the stealth bomber too.
https://airandspace.si.edu/collections/horten-ho-229-v3/
Roswell was in ’47 after the war was over.
Yep it was and after 1943
Those g33k boxes are a good idea and I was going to get 4 packs of them – but the shipping is killer. €15….
You can get them from Amazon @avien for cheap. Think I got mine for a few quid thanks to Amazon Prime
I will point out when I say Work in Progress a big part of that is because as you can see, it has no base. I am waiting on (now) warcradle to restock their scenic resin bases
I’m in with the Afrikakorps 😎
The Panzer III is one of my all time favourite German tank for some reason and getting 10 of them in one go is too tempting 🙂
Funnily enough I’ve had a lot of HH plastic stuff for my birthday yesterday. I am doing Sons of Horus and Space Wolves!
@warzan
No worries mate, the dog will grow on you. Latest when you realise it’s the only one who’s getting excited when you come home after a long day at work.. 😉
Happy sunday guys!
@warzan – Welcome to the Heresy! 😀
Given the sets you guys have I think going Wolves vs Thousand Sons would be the most sensible to make the most out of them.
A brief overview in terms of the armour variants, you get the following:
Mk3 “Iron Armour” in Prospero – this was designed during the early crusade years as the predecessor to terminator armour and used in confined spaces such as boarding actions.
Mk4 “Maximus Armour” in Calth – considered the pinnacle of power armour design due to its various incorprated systems.
Cataphractii Terminator armour in Calth – The heavy duty member of the terminaitor armour family.
Tartaros Terminator Armour in Prospero – A lighter construction of terminator armour, more suited to the assault role.
You also get the Custodes, and the Sisters of Silence (not the space wolf/thousand sons variant heads you identified them as 😉 )
In terms of books:
Horus Heresy is played using the base 40k ruleset, whilst the Forge World books can be considered the Codexes, with the army lists, fluff and campaigns.
This is your base army list containing all the generic unit entries available:
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/The-Horus-heresy-legiones-Astartes-Age-of-Darkness-Army-List
The 2nd book will depend entirely on the legions you choose:
– Book 7 which contains the Wolves and Sons lists is due out at the Horus Heresy Weekender first weekend in Feb
– If not going for Wolves and Sons, then this will give you “most of the legions” bar Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and White Scars (there are “get you by rules” for Blood/Dark Angels and White Scars in Book 6)
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/The-Horus-Heresy-Legiones-Astartes-Age-of-Darkness-Legions
In terms of the fluffy choices available from you sets:
Ultramarines vs Word Bearers / World Eaters
Wolves vs Thousand Sons
Dark Angels vs Night Lords
Iron Warriors vs Imperial Fists
You also have Isstvan III where you have both loyalist and traitor factions of Sons of Horus, Death Guard, Emperors Children and World Eaters
Or you have the Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre, where you have the surviving traitor elements of Sons of Horus, Death Guard, Emperors Children and World Eaters, joined by Iron Warriors, Alpha Legion, Word Bearers and Night Lords, vs the loyal Raven Guard, Salamanders and Iron Hands.
I’ve been playing Heresy since Book 1 came out many years ago so if you want a hand feel free to shout 🙂
Oh man im loving the segment intro’s.
Pro tip on roswell: One of the aliens survived, they named him Elvis (Got this genuine tid-bit from the most reliable source: Perfect Dark on the N64)
Happy Sunday.
Really glad the weekender is back – a void has once more been filled 🙂
& outta interest – if you had to compare 2017 to a shade from the GW paint range – which shade would it be?
Zem
@dignity I have to side with @warzan and his advice to get reading Angels new book my own copy has been read many times and drooled over more times than i can count it really is good and apart from the tips and techniques is inspires you to get stuck in just hoping your own results will one day look as good.
also get yourself down the pond shop and get yourself their blue tack equivalent its great for masking.
PS – for masking off areas when painting I recommend blue tack. easy to mold & easy to remove
@warzan are we alone?
In the universe most definitely not, even the most pessimistic predictions (barring the unscientifically unique snowflake hypothesis) predict there will be a lot of others around, some maybe even forming intelligent civilisations.
In our solar system, probably yes, the distances are far too vast for a casual stroll down the next solar system, if somebody came it would be either an arc ship witch we would detect, eventually, or a swarm of self replicating robots, of some pre programmed directive (be it explore, contact, kill, something else?), which we would detect faster.
Oh! Forgot to post this one earlier, @warzan @dignity – this story appeared over the christmas break
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/groundbreaking-ufo-video-just-released-from-chilean_us_586d37bce4b014e7c72ee56b
Happy Sunday all. Great show once again. Love the Warrens Mind Melt title. Justins little face looks hilerious. 🙂
I second Angels book Justin mate.
Warren if you need to lose weight cut most of the heavy meat and dairy from your diet.
i’m not saying you have to be militant about it but tofu to replace the red meat would be a good start, keep white meat to a few times a week. same thing with dairies, couple of times a week.
maybe try drinking Chinese tea some of the day over English tea. it will further reduce the fat content in your diet and help get rid of the unwanted crap out of your body. get yourself some dragon pearl tea not some tescos green tea.
its all about making manageable changes that you can move forward with in a balanced and consistent way. trying to do too much at once will just have you jumping from one extreme to the other. getting rid of processed foods and keeping your diet as natural as possible will be hugely beneficial. like I said don’t be too militant about it as your going to have ups and downs while you go through the process.
be careful with exercise other than walking until you have some level of consistency with it.
your body needs time to adapt to the changes you are making.
you guys didn’t mention the record breaking numbers of KDM
Ben,
Washes can work really well. Similarly to Warren I’ve previously done my SpaceHulk genestealers with them. The best way is to do a couple of different layers of washes with dry brushing inbetween, in a lighter shade of the base paint, or white.
I’ve just finished up some Conan mummies in this way.
Basecoat – Vallejo Desert Sand primer
All over Wash – Army Painter soft tone
Mummy flesh – Army Painter Red, Purple and Blue tone respectively
Dry Brush – Army Painter Skeleton Bone
All Over Wash – Vallejo Light Grey
see pics of mummies in the following thread http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/painting/forum/topic/2017-hobby-progress-can-i-do-365-minis-in-365-days-and-other-shenanigans/
Awesome, thanks for the link. Will take a closer look. From first impressions those are some nice looking miniatures @grimdarkness !
Great show today, good to have the weekenders back.
Can anyone help, at the start of the show @warzan talks about airbrush and painting methods making reference to “Angel” and books etc. Does anyone have any other details of this as I have not found anything.
Martin
Try Painting Miniatures from A to Z Angel Giraldez Masterclass. Vol 1 and Vol 2
@laughingboy the book they are referring to is this one by Angel Jiraldez:
https://store.corvusbelli.com/products/others/AZ0002-painting-miniatures-from-a-to-z-angel-giraldez-masterclass-vol-2
There is a volume 1 as well, but it sounds like volume 2 is actually easier to follow for beginners with more practical tips on improving the basics. (Various places sell the book and you can probably still get it with the promotional miniature.)
Angel is Corvus Belli’s in-house painter, famous for churning out loads of amazing paint jobs which use a mixture of airbrushing and normal brushing.
@warzan I am also currently slowly building a 30k army. Some things to be aware of.
30k has very different organizations for SM armies than 40k. 30k SM are legions, so they are designed to work as huge brute armies, NOT as small versatile strike forces. Tactical squads are 10-20 guys (yes, up to 20) with bolters (no special or heavy weapons). Special and heavy weapons are in support squads with 5-10 guys all with the same weapon (all flamers, all las cannons, etc.). Pay attention to this as the GW plastic sprues are designed to build 40k style units (I.e, sergeant, 7 bolters, 1 heavy weapon, 1 special weapon).
unit selection is important, as units will often be single purpose. A unit with all bolters is infantry focused. A unit with all melts guns is anti tank. There are very few units like 40ktactical squads with bolters (infantry) melts guns (tanks) and missile launcher (both). In this way the legions somewhat operate like 40k eldar.
Also, like soviet tanks in FoW units get cheaper if they are larger. Example – one 20 man squad is cheaper than 2 10 man squads.
If you don’t want the expensive HH books from FW, they sell 2 books cheaper with just the army lists and special rules for the SMs. None of the other fluff. However, those books are nice if you want more background info. They are gorgeous products.
I was interested in the latest book, Retribution. It includes rules for “black shields” essentially HH armies made of collections of units from different Legions who split from their parent legions. So you might have an army of squads from traitor legions who still fight for the emperor, or loyal legions who fight for Horus. It’s interesting for me as I get bored using the same color scheme every time.
Hope this helps.
I hope everyone who wanted or was able to make arrangements for the Flames of War Boot Camp was able to get a ticket. I’ve chosen the Germans as my 15mm desert army for the British is already pretty substantial. As I’ve said on the FoW Boot Camp thread, I may bring it along anyway just so we can have a **really** big desert battle, maybe on free gaming Sunday.
I’ll also bring my desert Italians (about a dozen+ vehicles or so). Yes, that includes Autoblindas, three of them! @warzan, did you want to finally play Autoblindas in a wargame, your favorite AFV of all time? 😀 (Hey, don’t laugh. with that 20mm autocannon those Autoblindas 40 and 41s were actually pretty badass when all the British had against them were A9s and some Vickers Mark VI tankettes).
I can also bring my copy of Avalon Hill’s “Afrika Korps” divisional-level operational game. Might help as a “historical briefing tool” or again, if anyone’s up, we can try it out on free gaming Sunday. Each turn lasts a month and it covers the **entire** desert war (or at least the Egypt/Libya/Tunisia part).
Also started re-reading a lot of my old books on the subject. I’ve published writing for this at Beasts of War and other venues, but it’s been a while and I don’t want to be rusty. 😀
Any chance you guys can do a follow up on Warpath? You did a short video but now the kick starters are been delivered and built up. Whats the chance of you getting Mr Renton over and giving us some demo games to inspire us please. I understand that Mythic Battles are planning on doing some demo games with you all. I can’t wait for those. In fact I can’t wait to get my hands on the game come December this year. O happy new year…
I’m really looking forward to your exploration of the Horus Heresy. Even though I don’t really play much 40k anymore, I have lots of friends who do, I still love the models and I really love the setting. And I think the Horus Heresy is one of my favourite parts of the setting. It’s got very strong overtures of the Roman Empire during the First and Second Triumvirate eras and the civil wars fought between Roman Legions. With that in mind, if I were choosing a loyalist legion to build for the Heresy era I would probably choose something like the Ultramarines or the Imperial Fists because I think they exemplify the characteristics that are most like the old Roman Legions that the Heresy era seems to be loosely based on. I think an Ultramarine’s legion or Imperial Fists built in the full Imperial ornate splendour would be a great offset to the traitor legions.
I have thought that too about the Roman Empire connection.
Ultramarines and Imperial Fists for the Imperial Legions vs
Emperor’s Children for the Traitors because they are like corrupt Praetorian Guard.
and the best colour-scheme is the Thousand Sons with their Egyptian-Ptolemaic theme
Great show. Nice to have you back and looking forward to a great gaming year.
It can’t be a U.S. Airforce crew on the Disk.
The text doesn’t read ‘Victims of the wreck’. It reads ‘Pirates of the wreck’.
Our first contact with aliens is likely to be with Space Pirates and Rogue Traders rather than official envoys/military units from well-established civilisations…
@warzan – as ben says, mixing in a box of the modern space wolves really helps (it’s actually what I’ve done with these two sets), and, as a fluff-friendly way of bringing in the new Thousand Sons Rubric marines and termies, run them as the elite Scarab Occult troops
Yes!!!! Booked 2 places on the bootcamp, one for me and one for my son. We have been wanting to try Flames of War for a while now and the Dropfleet bootcamp was such a blast 🙂
Nice one gents, stay off the energy drinks and bread, swap beer for Gin and you’ll drop the pounds
Thanks for the geekboxes find @brennon ! This is going to be usefull for a lot of my games.
See you all next week
May they keep your board games stress free and token happy 🙂
Great to have you back – Happy New Year!
I think Space Wolves / Thousand Sons would be a great match up for the HH. Although I would swap units between the two sets you’ve got. i.e. I’d give the Mk3 armour from Prospero and the Catafracti terminators from Calth to the Space Wolves and the Mk4 armour from Calth and the newer terminators from prospero to the Thousands Sons.
The first combined set looks more brutal – like I imagine fits with the Space Wolves – while the second set looks more modern, sleek and stylish – like I’d imagine fits with the Thousand Sons.
To Justin , about the flying saucer that fall in Roswelt can you tell me what about the corps that they found in the crash ? was it all dwarf cause they said they found boddy that where only 4 feet tall ????? so if it was German technology what about the corps found ?????
Man that’s a bad bowel-flu combo @warzan! Too much sugary food over Christmas gave me the runs now and then too, lol!
Shame about the pooch! 😀
Those links to Green Stuff World and g33kbox are good, saved those!
Using 40K Space Wolves bits with the Horus Heresy games marines is something I want to do too. I’d also get the new Chaos Thousand Sons marines and Terminators and use them too, I definitely reckon that once painted up in HH era Thousand Sons colours, they would fit and look like elite squads.
Love the new segments, melting Justin’s mind intro was fab lol.
Yep, Justin’s answer to UFOs and the end of the war tech makes sense, haha! 😀
@dignity Great work on those Trolls! Here is a picture of someone using cling film to mark off models while they work on airbrushing some fancy swords https://wargaming.blog/2017/01/09/grey-knights-work-in-progress-pt-3/
I’ve tried it myself and it works like a charm.
Happy New Year every one. Justin, Warren is right you should take a look at the book & also here is a link to Epic Duck Studios you should find his painting style interesting.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_mkZYU0yX4.
get well soon beasts bot.
with BoW 1.5 will there be a pinup collection?
a great start to the new year guys.
I think Justin had it right with Roswell and an experimental plane of some kind.
Dah Boyz are Bakk
I think this is an Ork year for me . am loving the Beast Arises series. Spoilers : Attack Moons beat death stars any day. The only thing that 40k never had an answer to; oh yes now they do. oh boy do they.
I tend to use Vallejo model air with brushes. nice thin consistent paint i do not have to water down too much or at all and no real worries about splodges, or brush marks, or covering details in thick paint
Warren , Justin ? what about Blu Tack for masking . John tends to use that in his parts to painted series ??? Especially the cheap tat from Pound shops ??? That is just rubbery, malleable and with no real tack.
Warren 30k was so last month we are now dealing with the fall of Cadia in 40k. could the big E be returning ????? BWAHHHHHHH HAHHHHHHH HAHHHHHHHHHH
Come on in 30k it has to be THE FIRST
The DARK ANGELS precede the Primarchs. they might have even had a hand in killing the Thunder Warriors along with the Custodes. And they can be back in black again. Also the possibility that the First actually fell to chaos and it is the Fallen who are the Dark Angels that are still loyal makes them so interesting; so lots of room for you to game in the gaps with them.
Also the whole Horus heresy like so many things is based on the war in heaven in the bible and your Dark Angels and their fallen brothers is pretty much ripped from the bible. And is it the Lion El / Elohim and their loyal angels who are the evil ones and Is it Lucifer/Cypher and the fallen angels portrayed incorrectly through the victors propaganda. But who are actually fighting to save The Imperium / us against the corrupt Creator/ Emperor. Do you see the scope there for gaming in the gaps or reading the Bible through the gaps to give you material to game in the gaps. Sorry about the theme of this But I use SAYNTofSYNNERS for a reason and I have always loved The first for the 30 years I have gamed 40k. I still have my 1st edition Rogue Trader hard back I bought at launch it has no spine and is in loose pages- torn up, stained, but still oh so very loved.
Dogmatix!

Happy sunday. 2017 is going to be a great year to be a wargamer/boardgamer . Tons of great releases to be excited about including Kingdom Death, walking dead, Deep Madness, latest offerings for Cthulu Wars, Evil Dead 2, Mythic Battles, and Middara. @warzan admit it you like that dog.
Cling wrap! Ahhhh, another why didn’t I think of it moment. @warzan if you’re cutting out/way down on sugar you’ll probably find that anything with a sugarless sweetener (aspartame etc) will start to taste sweet, as opposed to like crap as before, after a bit. For me it was two weeks maybe, best of luck!
@dignity been following your airbrush adventures, it’s really starting to make me want to dig back into it. On the sonic cleaner, I can’t remember where I read it but apparently you’ll want to clean the needle on its own as even rubbing up against something light like another needle in there can wreck the tip. Surely there’s no double entendre in there 🙂
Really excited to see you getting into 30k. Thousand Sons and the Space Mutts would be good to do as the big book with both of their lists is coming from Forge World next month. That along with 2 of the Redbooks, Legiones Astertes: Age of Darkness Army List and Legiones Astertes:Age of Darkness Legions will give you enough rules to do most of the Legions. If you want to do Mechanicum, Solar Aux, Knight HouseHolds or Cults and Militias the other 2 Redbooks would be good, The Mechanicum Taghmata and the Crusade Imperialis army list books. The redbooks give a good value while they don’t have all the fluff as the big books they do get you what you need to play.
I’m a big Thousand Sons fan and thats what I’m working on Currently so it will be cool to see what you guys do.
Another great XLBS. Thanks guys
I must admit, I would probably have done as Justin was planning and started getting to know the airbrush first on my own, before looking into what/how other people are doing. And I’d probably also curse myself afterwards for not just starting out getting to know the ‘right tricks by the pros’. In the end though, if it was me, I’d try both the cling film and liquid mask (and blue tack) ideas. See what worked best for me.
Wish I could join the bootcamp. Looking very much forward to the vlogs of that one.
Justin, try drafting tape (clear tape) for straight lines “splinter pattern” and cheep blue tack, it can be reused 4 or 5 times.
Hi Hello and Welcome Back everyone….
Just to say Warzan 30k see though bases. So you can see what your playing on.
@warzan Glad my ‘ghost in the shell’ avatar was able to inspire you back online!!
Those bags look great, just right for my Imperial assault sets…sigh
Happy new year, @warzan would it be easier instead of cutting the minis off the metal bases, to buy the cobbled effect tape and cut a piece to the size of the base. You could then with a sharp knife cut a cross in each position you would like a mini and push the mini through the cut and then then put the tape over the top of the metal base. Once all the figures were pushed through you can stick them to the unit base… hope that helps
thanks for selecting my star wars models for a golden button! its great to see people appreciate it!
Uuuu the Horus Heresy era will be epic! I can tell 🙂 Space Wolves and Thousand Sons are great choices 🙂 I personally would go for Dark Angels vs Night Lords but everything is great when it comes to the Heresy. 🙂
I have to win soon . I hate never winning anything. And as always if I win I will massage Warrens feet.
Ahh the XLBS! So awesome to have you back!
The six-week stretch of Summer school holidays means I get 0 hobby time in. At least with you guys back on board I can feel like I’ve got my hobby on vicariously 😉

Don’t use cling film. Angel uses it to stop himself from touching the model and rubbing paint off.
GET HUMBROL MASKING FLUID!!! Angel uses masking fluid and judging by the colour of it in the book he uses Humbrol. Vallejo Masking fluid is pretty harsh and I’ve had issues removing it and pulling paint off witth it but I’ve not had any issues with humbrol.
Don’t listen to Warren, 😉 Angel uses liquid mask all the time. HA ha.
My Dad never called our dog the same name what me and my mom used so I say you only refer to your Dog as Titan Killer from now on, or just plain killer. =) Happy new year.
I love how Ben never gets a word in for like the first 25 minutes
