Before Fantasy Flight Games polished off their journey home from Gen Con, they left tabletop gamers a surprise at the very end of their final In-Flight Check-In. With very little context, other than the initial announcement and that we can expect the title to head to our tables in 2023, Fantasy Flight will be exploring Star Wars in a deck-building medium once more.

Titled, Star Wars: The Deck Building Game, players were invited to witness the next addition to the Star Wars IP from Fantasy Flight. Taking a competitive route with each hand with individual motives, players will be taking sides with the Rebels or The Empire.

Given the previous deck-building title that Fantasy Flight Games had released previously, Star Wars: The Card Game. This new venture will be heading into different territories. As the previous title was very similar to the output of living card games also under the house at Fantasy Flight, including Lord of the Rings LCG, Marvel Champions and Arkham Horror. Given the vague name, and the theme of deckbuilding - we can only hope that we will be getting something quite different. The competitive aspect is certainly a move in the right direction.

The title is set to be heading to our tabletops in 2023, but until then - we will merely have to speculate on what to expect. Given the new fresh tweak and tailor to the core card games over at the publisher, it will certainly be interesting to see how this title holds up against the others in the Fantasy Flight library of card games.

What do you think, is there room in your life for Star Wars: The Deck Building Game?
