Chat Kings Of War With Ronnie, James & Alessio Cavatore!
November 7, 2013 by brennon
If last week's Kings of War Week 2013 got you excited then to round things off we have a chat with Ronnie Renton, James M. Hewitt and Alessio Cavatore of Mantic Games going on tonight so you can get your questions answered and generally geek out about this ace fantasy wargame.
So if you have questions about Orcs, Ogres, Goblins, Dwarfs, Angels and Abyssals this should be the place for you to get your geek on. Maybe you have something to ask about the future of Kings of War or even about it's past?
It's all going to kick off at 7:30pm GMT where you'll be chatting way with Ronnie Renton and James M. Hewitt and then later on in the evening Alessio will come along and get stuck in too.
Let's not forget that there is also Alessio Cavatore's secret project in the works with Ralph Horsley which he might be persuaded to talk about! See the trailer above this story for a bit of a tease.
In preparation drop a few questions you might have in the comments below and maybe they will get answered first when the chaps from Mantic come online!
Get thinking!

Secret project? What secret project?
😉
I absolutely love Kings of War. It’s become the game I play most often, and it’s great to see it growing so much.
My question is something of a request- I’d like Mantic to publish suggested base sizes for the models they don’t make. Most of the time it doesn’t matter, but for more competitive games it’s be great.
Alessio said:
“yes, I just finished the new FAQs for Cavatore’s Cavern [or whatever we call the new rules section of the Mantic forum] and it includes the base size thing”
Any chance you might consider producing KoW movement trays? I like the idea of fixing my figures to trays and creating army dioramas with scenic elements. I don’t want to contaminate my pure Mantic Figures by fielding them on GW plastic. 😉
So you have something to post in Cavatore’s Cavern already? You Mantic fellas don’t hang around!
Q1 = When are we likely to see a Warpath Kickstarter?
Q2 = What direction in terms of rules is this more likely to follow, v1 or v2?
Q3 = Will you be looking at doing any terrain systems for Kings of War?
When will we see miniatures for the Nature army? Do you plan to use the Loka mini’s as a base for it?
Daniel.
Gonna have to go with what jackdanielsimow asked and with the following.
Will we see more armies in the future for Kings of War and if so what will/might they be?
What are they currently working on miniatures wise for Kings of War and Warpath?
Last, Will there be a re-design of the Abyssal Dwarf units that are metal and plastic to make them cheaper like the other models (note I love the current ones but not the same price as others)?
+1 for the Naughty Dwarfs question (and the same again for the Naughty Elves)
When will we see a Warpath Kickstarter?
Will you be expanding Deadzone to include other planets ( which means more cool scenery) and differing rules/scenarios? (maybe a deadzone 2 KS?)
Will Deadzone/Warpath expand to include ship combat (not ship to ship, but boarding actions)?
Can you create a modular terrain system for castles and buildings in the Basilean style? ( the current market offerings for fantasy scenery tends to be very gothic, and these guys are quite unique)
……and finally a request, don’t add too much to the rules of Kings of War and make it as technical and complicated as certain other gaming systems. Adding magic items is fine, just not extra rules. Maybe a Magic items deck for players to use for ease of reference??
Here’s a time zone converter for those trying to crunch numbers to figure out what time from where you are at…

I will be working however I will have my Ipad at the ready just in case I can break away for a bit.
When will we see the Fish-men army that you jokingly mentioned some years ago?
Alessio said:
fish men? I think Rick Priestley is gonna write those for KOW…
…
just kidding!
And Ronnie said:
fishmen already live in DZ – so I am sure they will appear In KoW soon
1. Will we ever see Kingdoms of men miniatures?
2. Will there be plastic twilight kin and abyssal dwarves made? I was just hoping for core units.
3. Are anymore new factions being made for KoW? or any being made down the track?
4. Will we see another KoW kickstarter?
Some are repeated questions from some other people!
If they do make KOM minis I imagine they will be the very lowest priority. There are so many great historical factions to choose from already.
I hope that if Mantic do make KOM they make them very unique and a far cry from the standard european knights that we see in warhammer.
I’m actually hoping they don’t. My plan (pipedream stage, pending some reduction of the unpainted plastic mountain) is to use Warlord’s ECW range. It’d be a bit limited as infantry is pretty much limited to pike and shotte but at least it’d look the business.
1. How long do you think it will be until there are models for all current Kow army lists?
2. Any plans for faction specific kickstaters.
3. What is your future plan for Warpath, I imagine Deadzone has helped speed things along.
1. Loving where Mars Attacks KS is going. Whats you favourite mini / kit of that campaign so far. For me its the burning cattle. (but I still need that shrink ray and 6-10mm humans to go with it!)
2. Will the Warpath KS be first quarter of 2014, as has been rumoured?
3.Will there be Giant Stompy robots in Warpath, like you hinted to the Garouten boys on YouTube?
4. Can we get a live YouTube hangout with you, Adam Levine and the BoW boys before the Mars Attacks KS is over and maybe even a crossover to include the MWG team as well?
5. The fluffs there for it, are you considering giving us an underwater race anytime soon for KoW and what direction will these take if you do or plan to do at this moment in time?
6. Have you started planning for your Scottish trip? The Scottish community will go wild to have the Mantic boys at one of our cons. Thats an open invite to the BoW team as well. Biggest 2, I still be believe are Carroande and Claymore.
7. Do you plan on any more boxed games, like Project Pandora or Dwarf Kings Hold?
8. Big Bang Theory or Marvel Agents of S.H.E.L.D.?
9. I know you may not want another crossover team in Dreadball now we have the Martians, due the naysayers over the Mars Attacks Dreadball team, but I kinda started a trend with a few by suggesting to some of the naysayers about a AvP or one each races team in Dreadball and guess what they loved it! Is this something you would consider if Prodos was interested?
10. Will you be moving away from Restic over time and switching all / most of the range to the newer material that your a doing the Loka / Mars Attacks mini’s in.
11. Will their be a fantasy range of buildings coming out similar to the Deadzone / Mars Attacks line.
12. Have I asked too many questions already?
13. Will there be lots of vehicles coming out for Warpath, possibly during the KS?
14. Have BoW taken up your offer to use part of Mantic Towers and your painted mini’s for BatReps , general reporting etc?
15. If your answer earlier was Big Bang Theory, do you realise that the new Episode of season 7 is on at 8:30 tonight. If it was Marvel Agents of S.H.E.I.LD., then I guess we have you until tomorrow when that starts? 😉
Thank you for your time, thank you for your community engagement, honesty and ethics. Its great to support your product and goals and such a pleasure to hear your ideas and also how you listen to the ideas of your customers.
Loved the Deadzone kickstarter, I’m really looking forward to the Warpath one, Deadzone and Dreadball have really sold me on the universe, my question is have you got any plans in the far future to make a warpath ship combat game or a massive scale 10mm variant of warpath for some truly epic battles? I’d love to do a story driven Deadzone campaign starting with a force breaking through the quarantine perimeter and making a beach head on the planet culminating in an enormous last stand against a huge horde of Plague!
Continuing from earlier
Q4. I want my dwarves riding Badgers! When/Will we ever see these in glorious plastic/sprueless plastic
Q5. Is there a desire to do away with metal in your miniatures lines, certain armies still suffer the old plastic/restic + metal obscurity that makes life hard.
Hi guys, just the best focus week on BoW – Kings of War has reignited my enthusiasm and faith in wargaming. Finally cleansed myself of all things GW after their appalling treatment at the so called ‘Games Day’ last month. I’m building a huge army of undead and marvelling at the quality and detail of the box sets. I’ve managed to be quite creative in building my zombie figures, just need a couple of pack of werewolves to set them off.
Just 1 question. Would Mantic consider producing movement trays to standardise tray dimensions for KoW games and also because I never want to cross the GW palms with silver again.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the end of November in Notts.

Are you guys going to publish the chat online?
Does anyone have a transcript of the conversation?
My internet connection broke for a few hours and I couldn’t get to this.
Here you go.

Daniel.
That’s cool, thanks

Didn’t get a transcript myself, but here are a couple of points they confirmed.
They confirmed Loka Minis available separately in the future
Big releases in Febuary for Dwarfs and Abyssal Dwarfs.
There are 3 more seasons planned and 12 more teams for Dreadball.
There will be a living rulebook thing on the forum called Cavatore’s Cave.
That Forces of Nature and Abyssal will be getting some miniatures in the not to distant future.
The Moonlight Sonata feels strangely appropriate for this video 🙂
