An Elf Joins the Mining Guild at Sword and Board Games
September 19, 2013 by dracs
The last Mining Guild member Sword and Board previewed was a brutish looking Ogre. This time they have gone for something we might normally consider at bit more elegant. An elf.
This is one of the things I like about Sword and Board's current approach of making the different factions groupings of various races. We get the chance to see fantasy races presented in ways we might not normally associate with them.
Here we have an elf, which are normally characterised as being graceful and refined. Yet this one looks practically primal, with furs, hides and make shift weaponry, as well cuts and scars all over him. It is a refreshing interpretation and makes for an interesting character.
What do you guys think of this pointy eared miner?

Kinda reminds me of Nuada from Hellboy 2
I play (probably too many) skirmish games…but I have yet to get into a fantasy skirmish game yet…at least fantasy in the traditional, DnD-inspired kind.
In fact the only two that I can think of that sort of meet this conception are Darklands and Godslayer. The former is just too freakin’ expensive to get into (beautiful minis though…) and the latter I haven’t gotten the urge to get into just yet. Some of Godslayer models look really good (Most of the Dwarves) and some look pretty bad (that spiny bear-thing).
Hope these guys can deliver.
Not sure how I missed the Mining Troll but he is pretty darn mean looking
Having seen him the elf makes more sense.
Excellent stuff. I like the “mash up” and the factions will still be easily identifiable
oo ooh just seen the mining female orc too
I love the look of this faction, that troll is one of my favourite minis I’ve seen lately 🙂
