Star Wars - Ewoks by jeffersonpowers

We start off this week with a look at some miniatures from jeffersonpowers, who has been working away on a bunch of figures from Star Wars: Shatterpoint. The most recent miniatures in the collection are a set of Ewoks, which look absolutely fantastic.

Ewoks #1 by jeffersonpowers

By jeffersonpowers own admission, they made short work of these little fellows thanks to the fact that they are practically all fur, leather and wood. The technique involved a quick basecoat, wash and a drybrush in order to make them work. The hardest thing was coming up with some unique colour schemes.

Ewoks #2 by jeffersonpowers

I think that jeffersonpowers has done a solid job painting these and they have just the right amount of detail brought out through the paint schemes. I think the beady eyes work really well to sell the idea of the "costumes" from the film as well.

Ewoks #3 by jeffersonpowers

jeffersonpowers has done a solid job on these and I think the mixture of colours works well enough to set them apart on the tabletop. jeffersonpowers also found themselves using references from the Ewok cartoon in order to turn these miniatures into a reality! Plunging deep into the depths of Star Wars lore for that one! Make sure to check out the rest of the project from jeffersonpowers for a bit more Star Wars fun.

Conquest Old Dominion by graystoak

Next up, we're stepping into the Fantasy world of Ea and the wargame, Conquest. graystoak has been working away on some miniatures for the Old Dominion and the most recent set are for a Retinue that will walk into battle alongside ancient commanders.

Old Dominion #1 by graystoak

The colours here come from the rest of the army that graystoak has been working on but with a few little embellishments to make them feel a little more elite. I really like the ancient armour work that graystoak has been working on, which makes it feel like they have been drawn from their tombs. I think the dead flesh comes across really nicely as well.

Old Dominion #2 by graystoak

The work on the larger 35mm miniatures really does show when you see them up close. They might take a little longer to paint but you could get a really nice scheme together without much hassle. I think these will look brilliant once they are all ranked up or pointed towards the enemy to slay in the name of the Old Dominion.

Old Dominion #3 by graystoak

The Old Dominion are a fascinating faction within the world of Conquest and I think they provide you with a very different Fantasy army to paint. If you're a fan of the Romans and the undead then maybe mix the two together and follow graystoak's work.

BattleTech Mercenaries by sundancer

Last but not least, we explore what sundancer has been working on as they finished off even more BattleTech miniatures. The Mercenaries are now out in force and they have been painted up exceptionally quickly in a bright red.

BattleTech Mercenaries #1 by sundancer

Diving into the BattleTech lore, sundancer has gone with House Ricol, one of the influential Noble Houses from the Draconis Combine. Yep. I understood all of that. Why was the scheme picked? Because it was easy to paint and I like that line of thinking.

BattleTech Mercenaries #2 by sundancer

You can follow the scheme over on sundancer's project, which talks through the simple process of bringing these to life. I also like that sundancer presented them on those nice hex tiles which gives you an idea of how they'd look on the tabletop.

BattleTech Mercenaries #3 by sundancer

The choice of red is great and I like that you've got that on the top half of the miniature, whilst the bottom half is red. The fact that the colours blend into one another really works and provides you with an interesting finish. I also think the bright green cockpits and such help to draw the eye where needed. A great set of miniatures finished perfectly for the tabletop in no time at all!
